      Thanks, Axelle! Yes, these are made in France so it's good to represent! I'm looking forward to trying some more Savarez sets soon.

      @Josh.Vanjani I invite you to look into their website to learn about their story, how the family came from Italy and started with violin strings. It is quite interesting.

    Thanks Josh for reviewing this set! Given the characteristics of the basses the Villa-Lobos prelude no. 1 should sound great since most of the melody is played on them. 👍

    • @Josh.Vanjani
      @Josh.Vanjani  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Tomas! Good point about the melody. There's a Sagreras waltz that has a melody in the bass, perhaps I'll try that piece with this set. Otherwise, I may change these out soon. I suppose I'm just used to the basses taking a backseat to the trebles. I'm playing a short piece at the library next week, so I'll keep this set until then because it has good volume and will project well.

    Thanks for the very informative review and lovely playing, Josh. The Savarez 500CRJ strings are also very nice, if you haven't tried them before. Best wishes, Tom 🙂

    • @Josh.Vanjani
      @Josh.Vanjani  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Tom! I took a look at that set and I think the mixed tension makes a lot of sense. For whatever reason, even though this is an across the board "Normal Tension" set, the basses are looser, so having higher tension in them would offer a feel closer to other sets.

    I love these corum basses. I use them with saverez rectified trebles. I love rectified trebles and I find they are more balanced with the corum basses. Would love to see your thoughts on rectified trebles one day. Cheers!

      Thanks! Great idea on the rectified nylon, I haven't tried those yet. At some point I'll try titanium too. The next review coming out is D'Addario EJ27N. I filmed it already, but may wait until next week to post it.

    Hi Josh! You've been putting out so many awesome reviews about strings. There's a very systematic attitude that I enjoy very much. What about making some recap of your personal impressions? I think you're the right person to be somewhat objective in this super subjective matter 😂 Just an idea, no need to force it. Keep up the great work! 😊

    • @Josh.Vanjani
      @Josh.Vanjani  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Martin! Usually for my impressions I'll go over how the strings sound, how they feel and how they compare to other sets I've tried. Was there a specific area which you were looking for me to cover? My next review will be the D'Addario EJ27N, so I can try to cover that in the next review.

    • @martinpridal5761
      @martinpridal5761 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Josh.Vanjani Thanks a lot! I meant something like this- putting the strings you've already tried into a spectrum from the darkerst-brightest strings, softest-hardest, shortest-longest to stretch and hold their tune. Etc. You've tried so many already, that this might be a very interesting thing to get a bigger picture of all the available options.

    I put the EJ45's on my main they just aren't the strings for that guitar. They're good on my cheaper guitar but not this one. I like the basses but the trebles aren't bright enough. Any suggestions on a set with brighter trebles is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    • @Josh.Vanjani
      @Josh.Vanjani  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sure thing, Bug Man! The brightest nylon treble strings I've tried is the Knobloch Leo Brouwer AT Nylon set. If you want brighter, you'll have to go carbon. The Knobloch CX carbon are a bright and lyrical string. I've heard that Savarez Alliance strings are quite bright too, but I've not tried them myself. Raphaël Feuillâtre uses the Cantiga 510AJP set, so if you want to get an idea on tone, check out his recordings. Hope this helps.

      @@Josh.Vanjani thank you!

    • @Bug_Man_Semo
      @Bug_Man_Semo 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry, I have another question. Are the Leo Brouwer trebles thinner than the EJ45 strings? I'm not really a fan of the thickness of them, either.

    • @Josh.Vanjani
      @Josh.Vanjani  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Bug_Man_Semo It's fine, no need to apologize. On paper, the Pro Arte and Brouwer sets are nearly identical in gauge; however, I find the D'Addario are noticeably thicker, or perhaps dense, than the Knobloch. David Russelll prefers Pro Arte for that reason. I myself find the density useful for some pieces, but a hindrance for others. The carbon set will be considerably thinner than both sets, but I find they are stiffer and not as comfortable under the hands or for extended playing periods. You may want to consider the Aquila Alabastro set, which is a "nylgut" and thinner than traditional nylon. It won't be as bright as the Brouwer or carbon, but they're brighter than Pro Arte and at the same price point too ($10 vs Brouwer at $25).

  • @rodrisoares

    Smoother than Daddario Pro-arte Nylon Core??

    • @Josh.Vanjani
      @Josh.Vanjani  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question, Rodri! I still consider D'Addario Pro Arte smoother than this set. It all depends what type of player you are. The Savarez offers more give in the basses, and brighter trebles. If you're asking about playing feel, the plain nylon is a bit more comfortable under the hands, though I did find the Savarez Cristal were comfortable too. If you're looking for a warmer set, go D'Addario; if you want a brighter one, consider Savarez Cristal.

    I assume they make lots of different kinds of string. I’ve just tried a set (pink packaging). The treble strings were a bad joke. I used them for all of 10 minutes before binning them. Maybe their other types are very good…

    • @Josh.Vanjani
      @Josh.Vanjani  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like you tried the 520 set, the brown packaging with pink packaging inside? I haven't tried that set yet, but it is rated as a "traditional" nylon. These New Cristal are a contemporary nylon, aiming to get a brighter tone, better projection and more accurate intonation. I've had this set on for about five months now and it's still sounding good and was comfortable to play. Perhaps give this set a try sometime, it may be more to your liking. What set of strings do you normally use?

    • @MrMjp58
      @MrMjp58 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the reply. They were the pink 520p set, the first Savarez I’ve ever seen, let alone played on.
      The basses were more or less ok, to be fair. The trebles were cheap white plastic, with some wound-style texture embossed onto them, so they superficially resembled wound strings. They were noisy under the fingers, squeaky, dry feeling, painful to the touch, dead sounding, and rattled catastrophically. Maybe their other sets are very good, but I won’t be risking another £18 trying to find out if they’re any better.@@Josh.Vanjani

    • @Josh.Vanjani
      @Josh.Vanjani  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrMjp58 That's interesting, I remember reading about "wound trebles" on Reddit, at some point, but wasn't motivated enough to try them out or seek further info. Thanks for the heads up, I won't prioritize trying those out. If you're looking for a solid all-around set, the D'Addario EJ45 is an excellent starting point.

    Savarez Corum wear though the basses at the 7th fret before they are stretched out. Who cares what they sound like.

    • @Josh.Vanjani
      @Josh.Vanjani  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As evidenced by those who have previously watched and commented, several other people are interested in how these strings sound. I aim to review sets even if they are not first rate. In this instance, I’ve not noticed any unusual wear patterns on this particular set, nor have I had an issue with the basses. Each guitar is different, so while that may have been your experience, it may not be another’s.
