Frédéric Chopin - Prelude Op. 28 No. 7 - Baritone Ukulele - Gut Strings

  • Tarrega’s guitar arrangement of Chopin’s iconic Op. 28 No. 7 Prelude is stylistically representative of late Romantic Era guitar repertoire, featuring prominent portamenti and tempo rubato. As this piece was tuned to dropped D, I realized it could be arranged for the baritone ukulele by transposing the lower octave bass notes an octave higher. I sought an authentic interpretation to this piece by tuning genuine gut strings to 415Hz. My phrasing was influenced by piano recordings of the piece, in an effort to stay true to the original. I also attempted a dreamlike video aesthetic to match the delicacy of the piece.

    Hey, you kept in all those glissandi! I do enjoy them, though I know others don't... Works well on uke, and the visuals are very lovely.

      Thanks, Steven! The glissandi are also my favorite part of this arrangement. I find them more fun to play on gut versus because of the friction, as you know. Glad you appreciated the visuals too, I tried a "Gaussian Blur" effect to get the dreamlike glow.

    I enjoyed your bariuke version of this fine piece of music, Josh! These strings sound so smooth and mellow. Great choice for the bari!

      Thanks, Heino! These are the same strings I used in my guitar version of this piece. Not just the same brand or model, but the exact same strings I took off of the guitar and reused on the ukulele.

    Nice work Josh. I'm really digging this baritone uke series. Hoping for more in the future!

      Thanks, Wyatt! Much appreciated! I'll probably pivot back to some guitar content for a bit, until I arrange a few more songs. These don't do as well as the guitar videos, sadly, so the next video will be to motivate the base.

      Thanks, Tate! I'm happy you came to check this one out. I reused my gut strings from my guitar and they fit onto this baritone ukulele.

    👏Great playing Josh! Kind of funny arrangement too with those glissandos. (Tárrega-like)

    • @Josh.Vanjani
      @Josh.Vanjani  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Tomas! Yes, like I mentioned in the description this is almost exactly how Tarrega arranged it, the only arranging I did was to transpose the bass notes from the sixth ad fifth strings up one octave. In certain spots I left those bass notes out entirely if it meant I could play directly from the score instead. Glad you enjoyed!

      @@tomasericsson8720 Ha ha, no worries, that's what I figured. Perhaps I need to change the wording a bit anyways, or make it more clear. I bet this piece would sound quite sublime on your true temperament guitar.

      @@Josh.Vanjani No need for that, I just need to read more accurately. I might try this piece one of these days, we'll see. 😎
