Thanks Josh. I am new to Loopy Pro. Actually tried to understand it 6 months ago, failed… Here I am trying again.
Welcome back! If you have any questions let me know
@@JoshElliottMusic Hi Josh. I’ve messaged Max Yarl for some help, I have his video course on getting started with Loopy Pro, waiting for him to get back to me. I appreciate your reply to me and the offer of “any questions” I have lightning port iPad. Do you know if I can use Positive Grid Spark GO amp as an interface? If yes, would I be able use AIRSTEP LITE or AIRSTEP SPARK for foot controller? I play electric guitar, bass and baritone guitar. My experience with loopers is the very old Digitech JamMan stereo looper. It is very limited for looping and editing.
@@kerryfromaj9032 Sorry I am just now seeing your question. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with those devices. have you checked the Facebook group?
@@JoshElliottMusic Thank you for getting back to me I just yesterday had a very good response from AIRSTEP. They have new firmware to make their AIRSTEP Spark edition work to control the Spark GO and iPad with Loopy Pro. Unfortunately I have very poor skills to understand all this easily. I believe I do have it figured out. I’m 63 so definitely grew up in a different time and place. I’m ordering the AIRSTEP. There has been many people saying how difficult AIRSTEP is to get hold of but my experience has been my emails I’ve sent answered fully within a few hours. I’m so old tech I don’t even have Facebook, Tik Tok etc… I just finally started putting up TH-cam videos of me learning timing with my clunky Digitech JamMan looper and that process is sure helping me get better playing my guitar and bass. Take care 👍🏻
They should just make an entire pedal pc with its own os lol Something reprogrammable upgradeable changeable but one piece Pedals could be something you just plug into a grand control unit and the pedals themselves no longer have switches Like installing graphics cards lol The entire design of modern gear is not innovative, we still use 60s and 70s designs Js
I agree 100%
Nice work Josh. Just set up my Nectar Pacer based on your tutorial. Thanks for sharing your ideas and taking the time to make the video!
Thank you! Glad to help
cool work
Got a pretty great step up now. Thanks for the video! Is there a way to trigger on the pedal stop loop immediately? It just plays till the end of the loop, that's the only thing I haven't figured out yet.
Yes. In the clip settings if you want it to stop immediately change the “stop quantization” to immediate
please make a tutorial! awesome
Thank you! I sold my Octatrack but I might buy another one. If I do I’ll make a tutorial
I'm more familiar with Grace Jones's version (NightClubbing is an awesome album) than I am Bill's. Either way I really enjoyed what you did with it. Great groove, great voice.
Thank you for the kind words! I’ll check out Grace’s version. I have not heard that one
@@JoshElliottMusic Grace has done some surprisingly good music; that album is immaculately produced and features Sly & Robbie. "Walking in the Rain" and "Libertango" are my favourites on that album. I've got another suggestion you might like, which is Big Muff by John Martyn. Have fun!
I enjoyed your music. I'm just getting into making music but I used to do radio presentation at amateur level. On that kind of mixing desk, we used knobs to set things we didn't need to change, like channel gain and tone, but we used faders for everything else, because they are so much faster to go from min to max or max to min. I do really like the look of the Twister, the tap to zero feature looks really handy. If you have any thoughts on knobs versus faders, those would be very welcome.
Thank you! Knobs vs faders is a personal preference I think. It’s easier as you know to set and visually know where an exact value is with a fader. You can move a fader faster than a knob as well. The twister size is nice though. For a combo of knobs and faders check out the Novation Launchcontrol XL or some of the Faderfox line of products
@@JoshElliottMusic Hi Josh, thanks for your thoughts. I've literally just gotten an Akai APC64, just looking ahead to maybe wanting either more faders or knobs in the future. The Novation Launchcontrol XL is certainly an option I've considered, and perhaps a better option for me before thinking about the Twister. Bizarrely, I got talking with my *dentist* about music stuff and he reckons he can get me a discount on Novation kit. Thanks again!
Thanks for doing this! Blessings..
You’re welcome . Glad you found it helpful
How’s your workflow nowadays? I just purchased the novation circuit and use the mpc live with keys
Hey thanks for the comment and question. This particular phase which was quite a few years ago for me was when I was dabbling in dawless. It doesn’t really represent what I actually do musically. (I’m a singer songwriter who uses live looping) but I do still break into these kind of jams sometimes. I’ve been mostly using a Loopy Pro based set up the last few years.
Yeah I noticed It was from a few years ago. Sounds cool, i was just looking for inspiration and ideas how to use the mpc and circuit together. Thought your video was cool so dropped a comment. Thanks for the response
@@jamesmoores1887Thanks again definitely a fun combo!! I got into Elektron stuff after this period. That was also fun but had to get back into my gigging set up for cover songs
@@JoshElliottMusic the electron looks cool too, I picked up the tracks pretty cheap so though I’d give it ago.. are you connecting via midi usb to your mpc? I just tried to connect mine and it’s playing as a keyboard instead of a drum machine weirdly
@@jamesmoores1887 No USB. All sync is happening via 5 pin midi
I read this title as “how to set up loopy pro like a boss” 😂
Thanks for this! Can you send a midi command TO the Pacer to change the selected preset?
Unfortunately no. It does not respond to PC messages. The only option is to create different midi profiles in Loopy. But then the LEDS don’t match
@@JoshElliottMusic ah that’s a shame. Can’t decide whether to go for this and live with that workaround, or go for an MC6 but then have the louder foot switches and not have the colours… MC6 Pro is out of price range!
@@liamjrmatthews It's a tough decision. I'm actually debating switching to the MC6 Pro for smaller board but miss the brght leds on the Pacer. The MC6 Pro is expensive but really nice. The footswitches are pretty quiet but not silent. The Pro can kind of have colored led feedback but it's not intuitive like the Pacer and I'm still struggling with getting that part working.
Hi Josh! Great video! Do think it’s possible to connect two of those pedals to use simultaneously? I’m working on a looping system for two people to use together.
Hello! Thanks. I'm not able to test this. I think in theory it should work but I can't be sure. You would want to use different midi channels for each pedal. What I can say is I use multiple midi controllers with no problem (different brands)
Thanks!! I’ll see if I can get it working. Btw what is your current setup? Are you still using loopy?
My guy, this helped me so much! I've had a Nektar Pacer for ages and only just go into Loopy Pro. This beats any loop pedal I've ever used!
Good to hear! What loopers did you use before?
@@JoshElliottMusic Ditto X4, Boss Loop Station and inbuilt modeller loopers. The customization of Loopy Pro is phenomenal. I've made my own template based on your video and just been using the slide over function for iPad Pro to add in samples and drum pads from other apps. Works really well without having to do anything too complex just yet!
How did you midi sync with rc 505 with mpc live
The Boss is set to master and the Live is midi follower. So Boss midi set to Int and Live set to Ext. midi out of the Boss into midi in of the MPC.
Love the video - wish you'd kept going with how you actually perform with it.
Thank you! Unfortunately, my experience with the Aeros was cut short. I am no longer using it. I had big plans for it but the Aeros is still having popping noises at the loop boundaries I couldn’t live with in a live scenario
Ahh. Got it. Thanks for the quick response.
@@JoshElliottMusic Did you just go back to Loopy Pro or what? I still like the Aeros, I would like Loopy Pro, but I like being as simple as possible for gigs. I do see they are working on a MacOS version which might be the time to start using LP. Which interface do you use with iPAD? Would you switch to a laptop when that comes out and what interface do you think you'd like if so?
@@davidking7363I’m staying with Loopy Pro actually. I tried hardware again and it’s just too limited. I’m spoiled with Loooy 😂. I use a Babyface Pro FS interface
Great video. Thanks. What pedal board is that?
Thanks. Temple audio Duo 24
very informative thx a lot for sharing
What s the name of this controller?
It’s a Midi Fighter Twister
I did the same, but at the time of recording anything the fx doesn't get recorded, just the naked signal.
I think there is a way around this. I’m not sure of the answer though because I always used external FX.
Josh: I set up the Pacer per the instructions in your video but it does not activate the loops in loopy. Not sure where to go from here. I checked the Pacer with midi wrench and it is sending appropriate signals.
Can you discuss the other apps you can use with Loopy Pro?
That sounds like a great idea for another video! Thanks for the question
Really useful tutorial! Quick question, there's a thud when you hit the foot switch, is that just the Nektar hitting the mic stand?
You have a good ear! Yes it is. It’s not normally there but I had things positioned in a way during filming that caused the thud
Awesome! This is what i'm looking for! Can you please tell me how to connect all devices to ipad? Nektar & Audio interface &Amplifier?
I love your approach - there's no substitute for seeing how things work no matter how simple or routine they may seem. Thanks for the work.
How do you manage to record the first loop in 1 bar and automatically have 4 bars on the second loop? Everytime I approach like in the video the 2nd loop automatically record 1 bar only according to the first loop. 🙈
You want to turn off “auto count out” in global clip settings
@@JoshElliottMusicthank you 👍👍👍
NEED HELP - Loopy Pro/iPad recognised on iMac Finder, Nektar Pacer shows midi comms on iMac using "midi-monitor" -all 3 devices connected via USB powered hub. WHY can't I get a "binding" relationship in Midi-Learn between the Nektar & iPad?? …..s'driving me loopy !!
Hmm. That’s confusing to me. What role is the iMac playing in this set up? It shouldn’t be needed. Pacer and interface into usb hub into ipad is all you should need. Turn off “network midi” in Loopy system settings. That has been known to cause issues with the Pacer.
Hi @@JoshElliottMusic thanks for quick response, ….I was using the imac from the hub, to run "midi-monitor" to ensure the Pacer was emitting the commands (which it does). So now, following your help, I've disabled "network midi" and connected from pacer, thru camera interface direct into iPad. So now, altho I can see the command emitted on the pacer screen - it still doesn't trigger the record loop. I've done everything else as per your youtube. It looked straightforward on there!! I wondered if the camera interface had a problem - but if i connect the pacer direct to the ipad via the hub (without the camera i/f)- it still doesnt work
@@Erky32there is an iOS app called Midi Wrench that works good for troubleshooting these types of issues. Are you on USB C or lightning? If Lightening the factory Apple adapter must be used. When you midi learn in Loopy does Loopy indicate that it received a message from the Pacer? Also do not forget the step in the Pacer editor to give two commands. 127 for press and 0 for release.
@@JoshElliottMusic - i'm on lightening (the one with the 8 exposed terminals double sided) . I've got the factory adapter. On midi-learn i see the 127-0 command on the pacer red led screen being acknowledged - but the binding link doesnt appear on the ipad. I'll check out the Wrench app.
midi Wrench is showing the pacer in grey/offline. Currently I have the pacer into USB hub, then hub to Apple adapter (camera adapter) into ipad . I am running the pacer on independant 9v supply because ipad said without was taking too much power. So it looks like my pacer is offline ? …when I press a pedal , the red leds indicate the action but nothing is logged on the wrench screen. I had previously set up the CC commands on the imac editor because it was easier - but I obviously had good comms to pacer from imac thru the hub & into the pacer. Everything is set on Midi channel 1.
That’s a great template to start looping. Pretty simple
Hi Josh, thznks for the tutorial. how do you plug the ipad with the rest of the gears? guitar to external sound card to lightning(or USBc) adapter to ipad? and nectar to the adapter via usb? do you power-up the ipad adapter as well? thank you
Hello..Yes it's guitar into audio Interface. Interface and midi controllers are connected to the ipad via a powered USB C hub.
This is a good question. I got Loopy Pro about 6 months ago. I became overwhelmed and now revisiting if I can learn it. I have a tutorial I bought from Max, he offers Zoom lessons. If I can get my head around the basic operating I will invest more time and money into the project.
You earned a sub with “muhfucker”. But I already subbed when I heard you singing.
Very cool
Thanks!
What usb hub do you use with a long usb c cable to connect to the ipad that works. I tried several and also ordered some long usb c extention cable but it didn’t work
It took me some trial and error to find what worked. I use a Stay-Go Hub and Cable Matters Thunderbolt cable. I found out quality matters and the cheap stuff is unreliable. This video is pretty old now. I have a whole new pedalboard for Loopy Pro now and will be making that video soon.
Hi Josh, thanks for your reply. I will check a better thunderbolt cable now I know it’s possible.
Does it have elastic audio?
If you mean timestretching I'm not sure. I see you can change bpm via midi but have not tried that yet
@@JoshElliottMusic Timestretching audio means being able to change he tempo of an audio loop without changing pitch. I think this unit only has half or double, but I am not sure about that. The tempo on the control, means changing MIDI tempo, which is not the same. Ableton has time stretching, but requires a computer...
@@BuleriaChk Aeros doesn’t do that. I haven’t seen anything hardware or software that timestretches as well as Ableton Live
Thanks,
Thanks Josh. I'm just unboxing my Aeros looper which I bought some months ago. The delay has nothing to do with xmas. I also hope to sync a Beatbuddy, mainly for home play, and latter as solo or duo instrumental performing. Seems many people use BB as master to Aeros ??? , I thought I'd also read that some folks preferred Aeros as Master but I still cant find clear info for practical comparisons. Anyhow, this is all new to me, and your vid is helpful to getting acquainted with Aeros. Thanks.
Hey! Congratulations on the new Aeros. I don’t use a Beatbuddy but I think it would be best to try it both ways to see what works for you. Glad the video was helpful
OHA... I am very interested in your opinion about the Aeros. Especially in compairsion to the Boss RC 600. :D
I'm still not sure my friend. I'm testing out the Aeros at home but I am finding there is a clicking/popping noise sometimes at the loop boundary. That's not good. I do understand that Singular Sound are working on a fix. I really like the 6x6 way of looping on the Aeros though. Better for me than the RC-600. I just finished building a new template in Loopy Pro based on the Aeros. Loopy Pro still remains at the top of my list but for hardware loopers the Aeros is very good maybe the best..if the popping noise gets fixed.
Hi Josh are you sharing your loopy pro template?
@@Bluewaterboythis is something I’m considering. Stay tuned

yeeaaaaaahhhh
wow! That was a nice tutorial. Very clear and video quality great. I like your advice on keeping things simple, I have only been using loopy pro for a few weeks and it can waste a lot of time if you try to get too creative at first. Thanks
Thank you!
Hey Josh. I am confused about midi pedals. watching your vids, it looks like you use a morningstar but endorse PACER. Which is the right way to go with a loopy pro setup? for gigging.
Hey. Both do work fine. The Morningstar is smaller, has a different feel, more customizable but lacks the led feedback. I think both work fine and the choice is all about preference and needs. Another good option is the KMM Softstep. It’s very portable. The spacing and feel of the switches though..people either love or hate. Hope that helps. I’m here if you have any questions.
Thanks so much for the fast reply. I’m trying to set up Loopy Pro and have learned a lot. Obviously having some issues. Do you do online consulting?. Let me know how to reach out to you for that. Thank you.

Btw, I have a focusrite and connect the pacer via midi.
@@alensinani5190 have you tried a direct USB connection? The other thing you can do is put a midi checking app on like midimtr to see if the Pacer is sending midi to the iPad. Typically there is nothing special you should need to do to get Loopy to recognize the midi from the Pacer
Thanks for the quick reply. I will definitely try that and see what happens.

...is that a Fake Dan Electro?....
I’m pretty sure it’s real. What makes you ask?
Very clear the way you explain! So i will ask you for your help: i use a drum loop on first loop about 12 bars long as a blues then i record the guitar part and it sounds right but slowly goes out of sync. I tried all kind of sinc settings but it doesn't work, of course playing live i cannot wait until the whole drum loop ends, thanks a lot!
I'm using irig Bluebeard as a midi pedal
Is that drum loop exactly 12 bars? You can go into clip settings and check. It has to be exactly 12 bars and sync settings should be either "master" or "loop" You may also try a different short drum loop to test with and make sure the settings are okay
I like it . this is right along the lines of something i would play. Keep up the good work!
Hey I appreciate that! Rock on
Josh this sounds great. I'm a guitar playing looking to get into looping etc. I have a question if you know the answer- can you take the loop you recorded on the loop station and assisgn that sound to a pad on the mpc and manipulate on that device- ie add it to a drum sequence, chop it up, etc etc in a live real time performance? Not sure how this would sound but I thought it would be a cool idea to add some interest to repeating loops.
Thanks! That would be pretty hard on the set up in this video. I’ve since switched to Loopy Pro and you can definitely do that kind of thing. Loopy Pro has a feature that lets you automatically slice the loop up and play back the slices. All in real time!
@@JoshElliottMusic hmm. Ok I'll look into that. I just bought an RC10r to get me going and learning a bit.
@@SpeedGraphicsTVNice. That’s a solid looper. If you are interested in Loopy Pro I have some other videos on here using it and the Loopy Pro Facebook group is a great resource. It’s a really great looping system. I’ve now sold most of my hardware

Incredible. So versatile. Here's an unusual question. Let's say I wanted to load individual tracks from my DAW. For example guitar, bass, drums. A full song say. Now I want control over each track to apply effects and then automatically assign the effects to play when I want them to. In essence, can I build a set list using Loopy Pro as the player. Simply loading each song as a session, saving it and then perform with live guitar and vocal for a gig. I know this not actually using the Loopy Pro as a looper, in this setup, but is it possible I'm wondering
You can definitely do that. I do something similar for certain songs. The only difference is I will sometimes combine Live Loops with some pre recorded material from the studio and Loopy Pro does it seamlessly
