    Doin' it for the oldies... love it . I just discovered and bought the app, and man I am slowly starting to inundate the facebook group with questions and examples previously used in Ableton that i want to have a crack at on loopy. So i hope you're in there. Michael's going to get sick of me soon 🤣

      Awesome! Welcome. I used to use Ableton as well but Loopy Pro feels much more organic and customizable for live looping. Yup I’m in the Facebook group. The Loopy Pro Discord is also a good place if you want to go deeper down the rabbit hole

    I enjoyed your music.
    I'm just getting into making music but I used to do radio presentation at amateur level. On that kind of mixing desk, we used knobs to set things we didn't need to change, like channel gain and tone, but we used faders for everything else, because they are so much faster to go from min to max or max to min.
    I do really like the look of the Twister, the tap to zero feature looks really handy. If you have any thoughts on knobs versus faders, those would be very welcome.

      Thank you!
      Knobs vs faders is a personal preference I think. It’s easier as you know to set and visually know where an exact value is with a fader. You can move a fader faster than a knob as well. The twister size is nice though. For a combo of knobs and faders check out the Novation Launchcontrol XL or some of the Faderfox line of products

      @@JoshElliottMusic Hi Josh, thanks for your thoughts.
      I've literally just gotten an Akai APC64, just looking ahead to maybe wanting either more faders or knobs in the future.
      The Novation Launchcontrol XL is certainly an option I've considered, and perhaps a better option for me before thinking about the Twister.
      Bizarrely, I got talking with my *dentist* about music stuff and he reckons he can get me a discount on Novation kit.
      Thanks again!

    Excelente video! How do you set the filters so the always back to “zero” point?

    • @JoshElliottMusic
      @JoshElliottMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, thank you! I have the filter from Koala FX mapped to to a knob on the Twister. The Twister push encoder is set to “reset encoder value” hope that helps!

  • @sternenherz

    very interesting! speaking of minimalistic set-ups, i would guess the Launchpad Mini Mk3 would be perfect? Or is that additional button-row on the left side of the LaunchpadPro essential to you?

    • @JoshElliottMusic
      @JoshElliottMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey I think the mini Mk3 might be a good option but I’m honestly not very familiar with its features. I like the velocity sensitivity of the Pro and also the built in sequencer. If those things are important to you the Pro is worth looking into.

  • @zumbigod
    @zumbigod 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    good stuff here! I am wondering if my Faderfox EC4 can do similar with its encoders? I dont think you can program in a "push" on the encoder. I think it only does the knob turns. hmmm, Thoughts? Also, how did you get the Morningstar MC8 to show up as MC8 in Midi Control in LP? I have this adaptor that is USB to 5PIN Midi and it works, but shows up as USB MIDI, Im wondering if my cc's are getting crossed or the adaptor is glitching out, it seems the mc8 only wants to control LP 85% of the time. Its also possibly the way its setup in the mc8 config. Midi is so much fun and so confusing, but once its dialed in, its truly something out of this world!

    • @JoshElliottMusic
      @JoshElliottMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I don’t know much about the Faderfox. I think the other one, the UC4 could do something similar with the crossfader having a middle position. (Which would be very cool with Drambo) I’ve heard they are solid controllers. If the “return to zero” feature isn’t that important to you I think it could be a great option!

    Quick question
    I'm new to midi,
    If you were to pick just one one controller for loopy pro for live performance, which one would you choose and why?

    • @JoshElliottMusic
      @JoshElliottMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Ooh 😮 good question! Hands or feet or both is going to factor heavily into that. There are so many options and that’s the beauty of customizing your own set up. Personally I liked the Launchpad Pro MK3 because the pads were so nice, loops automapped, custom modes are useful and it’s sequencer was really nice to use alongside Loopy. Downside is you kind of need a separate controller for knobs. The APC 40 mk2 is a nice all in one unit but you can’t finger drum on it. For floor units the MC8 is solid but also other folks are happy with the Nectar Pacer and Behringer FCB. There are so many options and it can be overwhelming. I was suggest defining wants and needs and try to narrow it down from there. Some people want a simple guitar looper style set up and just use a foot midi controller. You can be as complex or simple as you want to be! Cheers

      Thank you so much for your quick and detailed reply! it is so confusing, I've been spending more time window shopping as opposed to making music lol. My head is spinning.

    How do you set your drums so you can play with the snare separately?

    • @JoshElliottMusic
      @JoshElliottMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t have the snare separate actually. On my delay I have all the low and low mid frequencies filtered off so the delay only accents the snare.

      Thanks. It is a Launchpad Pro MK3 if that’s the one you’re referring to. No Ableton or Push. It’s all Loopy Pro, Launchpad and Midi Twister. I agree listening back the drums are quite loud but of course sounded great in the headphones which is the danger of headphones.
