  • I wanted to set up a mic switcher without actually adding a physical switch to my board. I also wanted to have led feedback showing the record state of the switcher. In this video we dive into how to set this up with just an XLR Y-Cable.

    Ok if yall do this and it just mutes the mic completly go to your mixer and mute mic 1. Then after that it should toggle muting mic 1 and mic 2. hope this helps someone.

      Yes that's a great point. Thanks for mentioning it. I'll pin this.

    I did the same, but at the time of recording anything the fx doesn't get recorded, just the naked signal.

      I think there is a way around this. I’m not sure of the answer though because I always used external FX.

    Great video man! I was using an external AB box which worked well except the extra space it takes up, and that it’s so easy to forget whether it’s armed or not… in the end it just wasn’t worth it. I’ve decided to ditch the whole AB idea and just have dedicated tracks. Also, I really like the harmony singer pedal for those one one off simple harmonies…
    I also started using a unison effect RC 600 that I can toggle on and off for choruses. It’s nice to not have to worry about whether the track is “armed“ or not 😅

      Thanks! I do get that and even with the LED I was forgetting to disengage it. Much easier to use dedicated mic tracks.

    Very cool tip, thanks! What is that foot pedal you are stomping at 0:49? I'm on the process of building my live looping setup and just got the RC600 two weeks ago.

    Nice!!!! Now you just gotta remember to “arm” the mic (my biggest obstacle)

      Indeed! Arm and disarm

      @@JoshElliottMusic all night at my show last night… oh crap I forgot to arm recording, redo this whole loop again… I play it off nicely though ….
      I will say having a “live” mic at all times is really cool!

      This is one of the best tricks for RC600 !!

      I followed this but once I do the assign it mutes both XLR inputs... I'm so confused

    • @JoshElliottMusic
      @JoshElliottMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jacksonholt3846 I think you have to invert the settings of one of the assigns. I might have missed that

    Does this imply that you split your microphone signal between the 600 and the PA on the way in? I'm trying to figure out how this wouldn't mute your mic to the desk overall.
    So if it's split, you're getting two of your voice (one through the 600 and one directly) when you enable mic record?
    Just trying to follow the routing :).

    • @JoshElliottMusic
      @JoshElliottMusic  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So the mic goes directly through the 600 and from there to the PA. When I’m not recording the mic the signal just goes straight through to the PA. When I am recording the mic the signal is still going through to the PA but also being recorded to a loop. Since the other input is muted at both positions I do not get any doubling. I have a Boss VE-500 between the mic and the RC-600. I do it all this way so I don’t have to use an external mixer. Does this make sense?

    • @riffingt0n
      @riffingt0n 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JoshElliottMusic I *think* so? So in the absence of the Boss VE-500 you'd still be able to set up an assign to toggle between record/don't record, right? I'm going to try to replicate this. I have an A/B switcher with my main setup and I'm seeing if I can replicate this feature of it in a RC-600 only setup for smaller gigs :). I think this is it, but I don't *quite* grok everything you're doing.
      Great video though, that's on me, not on you.

    • @JoshElliottMusic
      @JoshElliottMusic  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes the VE-500 is not needed. This does essentially work like a simple AB switcher. If you follow each step it should work for you. I actually just reset my RC-600 and rebuilt this last night. If you have any questions feel free to ask

      @@JoshElliottMusic thank you so much! I've got an external footswitch on order and I'm hoping to set something like this up for when I'm using a more stripped-down version of my setup. I'll give it a go using these instructions and check in :). Regardless, thank you

    They should just make an entire pedal pc with its own os lol
    Something reprogrammable upgradeable changeable but one piece
    Pedals could be something you just plug into a grand control unit and the pedals themselves no longer have switches
    Like installing graphics cards lol
    The entire design of modern gear is not innovative, we still use 60s and 70s designs
