*I got the worse kind... its Subzero 685, perhaps an older model? There is a multi face metal mesh before the coils that you cannot remove unless you take off the entire top roof of the fridge. I was able to clean the first two face layers of the metal mesh but the last one or two are unreachable and they are dirty. I may need a specialized brush, like a thin and elongated one. But thanks for the video.*

Thanks for this video. It gives me hope that there are more guys like you out there who will go to the effort of repairing these work horses. My 26 year-old SZ has been diagnosed with failing insulation which the repairman said can't be fixed. It is causing the drain to ice over so we sometimes get water on the floor and under the vegetable drawers. If you know of anyone in the SE PA area who would replace the insulation, I'd appreciate a referral. Thanks!

Great video! I could not quite pull the back panel forward quite as much as it appeared that you did, but--with long sleeves--I was able to reach down. One tip: Plastic cable ties (especially 14") work great to for plunging the drain. Like @peteransel2715, I like to do as much home maintenance as possible myself--save a fortune!

Thank you, this was super helpful. My subzero 642 refrigerator is not cooling (its at 58) even though freezer is cooling. I did all these diagnostics and everything checks out. Cleaned condenser as well by blowing air through compressor but still didn’t help. Now I have scheduled a technician visit.

hold the door handle open from the inside and you won’t have to take it apart when you try and move the metal latch piece, it’s a lot of raster

Moved into a new home and this fridge gets blocked there all the time! I've done this 4x in 4 years. it always a 1.5-2hr project for me. I couldn't find the drain hose from below. I pour bleach down drain afterwards as it might be caused by mold. Also trying to keep veggies/fruits fresher with fresh vent containers now. I had a kitchen aid fridge for 10 years before this without any of these issues. Sub Zeros look nicer but very high maintenance with ice maker and this issue once a year.

For my Subzero 650 - If I want to go LED or regular which base do I need. It looks like you are recommending E17, but it looks bigger than what I have. I have no markings on my bulb. It looks more like an E12, but having difficulty finding an E12 in LED

Thank you for posting this! Might have to try some of those diagnostic modes. We inherited an older 700 TC. Yesterday I noticed a decent pool of water in the front of the fridge by the door. So last night I took all the shelves out as well as the panel on the back of the inside over the evaporator to try and clean out the drain (if that's was why the water was pooling). I had to take the light cover off from the top of the fridge as well to be able to get the back panel off. The drain didn't look clogged but there was some water gathered around the drain hole. I dried it off, cleaned the area, and cleared the entrance to the drain with a pipe cleaner just in case. Put the back panel back on, the cover over the lights/control panel, and everything back in the fridge. Anyway, this morning there wasn't anymore water pooling by the door but the temperature of the fridge is now 54°, and doesnt seem to be going down. Any suggestions of what could be happening? I had the fridge open for probably 30 minutes and has turned off the unit eventually so that it wasnt running the whole time it was open. Could it just be that its taking a whilen to get back to the right temp? I was working on it probably 10 hours ago. There weren't any issues with temperature before and when I go to change the temperature settings on the top contol panel it shows the freezer is set to 0° and is holding that but the fridge is set to 38° but actually registering 54°. Could this be the fridge not cooling or might it thermostat have been damaged somehow by taking off the back panel? The only thing that was really altered by what I looked at was the evaporator had a kind of insulated foam tape strip across some of the coils that was stuck to the back of the panel that had to be ripped to get the back panel off to get to the drain at the back of the fridge. Thanks for your help!

Thank you! Saved me a $500 service call. FYI, for any one with a 30" model, the drain is in center (not left end) of the trough and drains vertically, not horizontally. It's almost impossible to insert a poker to clear it, but in my case, it was mostly ice causing the blockage and hot (not boiling) water solved it. Don't forget to clean your pan after, both of water and years of skank!

I have a 561 side by side that gets ice build up on the refrigerator side and then drips water the freezer sude 2irks great and the icemaker works great too. How do i trobleshoot the refrigerator issue ? How do i inow if they make the replacement part for the 561?

The worst wait to do it . Best is to remove retainers put then in on the floor into the gasket and then install it . Always works perfect takes 20 min

This is an amazing video and its helping me out with my 611. I had a question, how did you remove the freezer evaporator covers? In my fridge, there's some silicone sealant that is keeping the cover from pulling off. I can rip it off but is it required that I replace this sealant once I'm done troubleshooting the heaters?

When my frigidaire 36-inch side-by-side dies, I would be happy to demo out the cabinet uppers that go above the existing refrigerator and put in a Sub Zero 550 equivalent.

Thank you! I bought a fridge over freezer 36" unit with the faux cabinet inserts for a song. The only problem I am experiencing is the right front wheel rod somehow became dislodged from the inner side, so I'll have to wedge that corner up in order to fix the wheel......or, as I think it through, I will first try to elevate the rear wheels and the front right leveling foot..... perhaps that'll be adequate for me to rectify the dislodged wheel "axle"

John this was excellent. Question for you - I noticed you went with r134a as that model most likely had r12 originally. Did you have to source a different size/model compressor when you replaced it in light for that?

Ford always has a problem with latches and leaking rear doors. To quiet the latch they put some plastic coating on the latch lock that was stuck closed in this video on my van (this may be different than yours). These latches are prone to getting dirty and with the added lubricant makes them a magnet to dirt. My latch just won't stay locked once closed. I had to pull mine and clean it with brake cleaner re lube it and put it back in. There is just too much going on in these mechanisms.
