  • Follow along as I install a standard electronic drain tube heater in a top over bottom Sub Zero unit in ringwood New Jersey.
The reason this occurs is because your drain tube freezes over and the water has nowhere to go but overflow into the unit.
This solves the problem of ice buildup on the right side of your freezer. I like to tie the ends of my Heater with fishing leader so that if the heater breaks which is common overtime, we can extract the heater from the bottom by pulling on the leader.
In your drain tube heater box you have get some fishing line, that works as well but is not as sturdy and sometimes breaks when pulling the heater through.
This will work on most top over bottom units from 1990-2008

My 511 has ice forming in the fridge section in the back. Behind the right crisper drawer. Fridge drain tube came with a heater from what I can see. What's wrong?

is the heater working? run the fan and feel if it gets warm, if not, blow drain out and install new heater. If it continues, there can definitely be a lot at play as it depends on the frost pattern. But you should melt all the ice, don't chip it away and break the tube. Start over and confirm water goes down the drain. If it comes back it could need any number of things you would need to have it evaluated at that point.
