  • This job was completed in Bernardsville, NJ in somerset county. We have been servicing sub zero fridges in this town for decades! We service all of somerset county and surrounding areas and towns in New Jersey. So give us a call if you want awesome service, we really go the extra mile! Thanks!
You rarely need to remove the unit from the wall to service your icemaker. Sometimes, you do. Always protect the floor, know where your water and electric shut offs are.
This particular machines condenser grill was stuck on as the carpenter who installed the kitchen glued the moldings over the grill. For ten years other technicians would bend the vent forward to service the machine. The unit looked like it had no been cleaned in years.
As a result, the solenoid valve must have gone bad. The last technician to work on the unit replaced the valve (with the wrong valve). Doing so they tied on a 1/4 inch connection and seriously compromised the quick connect fitting on the end of the water line. At one point the water line was pulled off of the fill tube hardware and the machine never made ice again.
In order to fix this machine completely we replaced the entire ice maker system with new OEM sub zero ice maker components.
    Parts used:
    Ice maker for 736tci
    Ice maker sled
    Ice maker control arm
    Ice maker fill tube hardware
New fill tube ( nice plumbing grade 1/4 inch)
New Quick connect solenoid exact replacement for unit.
New water line hardware at the union to copper line.
    Worked great!
Some extra notes: although a metal fill tube, no tube heater is installed on these units.
Would probably use two people to do this job in the future. When you remove the cabinets the unit becomes top heavy, and it can fall on you if you pull too hard. Be very careful and don’t attempt this with out help, don’t be like me!!
Clean your condenser when you are down there, this all happened because years of neglect on the condenser which undoubtably made the original solenoid go bad.

I don't have this model but nevertheless, your techniques and professional approach are very useful for working on/troubleshooting other models.

Yes, it was quite difficult doing it with one hand, but those little clamps have tabs on them much like a hose clamp on a vehicle. You simply press on each tab with a plier and pull the hose out.
