You forgot to mention that the defrost terminator will be open when in room temperature. So at room temperature, the deforst heater will not receive power anyway.

This is an amazing video and its helping me out with my 611. I had a question, how did you remove the freezer evaporator covers? In my fridge, there's some silicone sealant that is keeping the cover from pulling off. I can rip it off but is it required that I replace this sealant once I'm done troubleshooting the heaters?

You are very concise and helpful. After over 40 years in the profession,
I am overjoyed that you're not saying how easy this "15 minute" repair is-
just like countless knuckleheads speaking about appliances.
I'm searching for any advice on my first 700 br evaporator replacement. Thanks again, Keep up the good work.

Just something to note guys. When you enter defrost, the cycle should last about twenty minutes or so. If you stop receiving power to your heaters WAY early, check that your terminator is not opening too early!

I have subzero 550 and I have same issue as above. This unit does not have the ice switch which you use to verify 120v at control board output P10. Is there another way to manually enable defrost cycle for 550?

I too have a 550 and would like to know how to engage defrost.

@subzerorepair I’m a service tech as well, jumping on with Sub-zero at the end of the month! Watching all your videos 👍

@@simplicius1 if defrost terminator is functioning and control board is calling, then rotating the defrost timer until you hear click will activate defrost heater circuit for 20mins (check by touch in freezer compartment). If it's not timer then debug/replace defrost terminator part (you will need to open freezer roof).

What happens if the defrost time lasts too long? My ice cubes end up getting wet and melts a bit down that side of freezer and freezes. My 680F serial #191**** Manufactured April 2002 freezer doesn't always get cold enough (12 F) and sometimes it is (-3 F). Brand new factory control board was replaced already as well as a new thermistor. Could the defrost termination sensor allow heating element to work for too long?

I assume the refeigerator section would be similar however what buttons do you depress on a SZ pro 48

can you instead bypass that termination switch at 5:30 to test it?

Does a model 590 have a defrost timer? If so, how to test it?

Omg to many no needed manipulation, just check if you have 20+ ohms for heater, if you do, then just replace terminator. If you would have problems with gaskets, you’ll only get snow buildup on the sides of the freezer compartment wherever the gasket damaged. And yes, what exactly button do you press to manually activate defrost mode?
