Don’t go with the plastic style nose strips. They can’t handle water or grease your nose produces throughout the day. I had to replace those strips 4 days each day. The band-Aid style is a lot better but still 1-3 times a day is expensive. Plus they ruin photos! I’d go with the internal cones or dilator. You can find soft styles and they are washable
The adhesive also hurts my skin and cleaning my nose with alcohol wipes, multiple times a day it is not fun
My palate is a little too narrow. My tongue spills out onto my top teeth. Any advice

May I reach out to you with respect of choosing jaw surgeon? I'm in the SF Bay area.
Yes! I'd love to help. The best way is to go through my website: sommerspt.com
Watching myofunctional therapy videos have caused me hyperawareness OCD which has been going on for about a year. The main issue here is that these things should be learned when you are a baby / young kid and not in your adulthood. Swallowing and tongue posture should be automatic processes and not something you have to think about constantly.
hey.. , in one of your videos, you mentioned that if someone has TMJ problems, MMA surgery might make it worse. I’ve had multiple consultations, and none of the surgeons mentioned this. In fact, I’ve been told that since my mandible is retrognathic, advancing it will create a better condyle-to-fossa relationship and is likely to eliminate TMJD. but in scan there is mild degeneration of condyle on one side. Could you please share your knowledge on this? Thanks!
How do you suction your tongue at the roof of mouth
I don't onow why my tounge sticks Better at left side i feel like my left side is better developed byt both are equal even i feel my left side of tounge is more active in every activity 😢 please help me what should i do....

they aren't the most attractive but the breathe right strips have worked best for me. I just had major reconstruction due to weak nasal cavities
Thank u for this
I can suck the back of my tongue pretty easily when I have my mouth open but once I close it the tongue falls down and I cant get it back up. What should I do?😅
Dr. Sommers, is there a chance to arrange an online appointment and to have a treatment exclusively online?
You can schedule online consultations for oral movement coaching at sommerspt.com. In most cases, we can make large improvements exclusively through online consultations.
If you choose a surgeon from an other country and he doesn't seem to want to cooperate with your local orthodontist and he doesn't want to make your treatment plan from a distance and he tells you that he is going decide for the exact procedures from up close when you come to the country..... Is this how it's supposed to be or is it something that has to concern you?
Great question. My initial thoughts without knowing any of the details of your story are that it's important for the surgeon and the orthodontist to work together when preparing for jaw surgery (especially during surgical planning -- the orthodontist needs to know where they need to put your teeth based on the surgical plan). Based on what I've seen, it seems quite typical for a surgeon to require they see a patient in person to make their surgical plan. Many are quite particular in how they take their imaging, collect their planning data, etc. Some will create a "draft" surgical plan without seeing you in person based on the records you provide them. I've never seen this "draft" used as a final surgical plan. It's tough to say if your scenario raises concern to me because I don't know the whole story. I hope the above information helps you navigate the situation, though!
@allsleepashley Thank you so much for your answer. I really appreciate it!
Hi
Hi, how long can we expect it to take to become natural for us to have our tongue properly suctioned and in the right position after we have begun training ourselves to rest our tongue that way? I find my tongue resting with a little bit of the perimeter wanting to squeeze out through my teeth but I am able to properly suction my tongue when I remember to.
It sounds like you may need to work on narrowing your tongue in order to train a better suction/fit the tongue fully within the palate without it overflowing onto the biting surface of your teeth. Or it may be that your palate is too narrow. I recommend ruling out the narrowing issue before deciding it's a narrow palate issue. As for how long, it depends on your starting point, what you're doing to train a suction, and what volume of those things you are doing in a given amount of time.
what surgical procedure are we talking about?? orthognathic?
Yes.
You are very beautiful
My need five nose. Clip big siege

where to get such measurement Tool for the mouth opening? thank U so much for Ur great videos!
I still can’t get it :[ (My young dosent even fit)
Why this is important?
I am new to your channel due to this video that was shown to me by a friend. You have very interesting stuff. Can I ask where you got that knowledge and experience from and what your information is based on?
Can you share with me more info regarding having worn cartilage on the TMJs? What are the options in those situations?
You know i had a conversation with prof. John mew (aka orthotropics and mewing founder) There is a video of him with his son dr mike mew, they both had debate but they are unsure what back they are talking about, john mew thought other back mike mew thought another back, becuz back of the tongue doesn't make sense as tongue goes all the way to trachea, so there should be an animation or some pictures to better understand that what people talk the actual back 3rd of tongue.. And John mew said Mike and I could never agree on what was the back of the tongue. I think it is the wrong word to use as the back of the tongue goes all the way down to the Trachea. Prof John Mew.
I'd be happy to call it something else -- as long as we are all on the same page about the specific location we are renaming. Do you have any ideas of what we should call the area of the tongue that I'm calling the back?
@@allsleepashley not yet but we have an idea of where should the entire tongue rest, the tip should be on rugae and the dorsum of tongue should be behind the junction of hard and soft palate (in easy words it should be in the middle as I understand)
@@allsleepashley I got a picture now but I can't send it here
Hello, hope this comment won't be removed like the others and you'll read it. In an old video you said that cheeks should be sucked in during saliva suction and I naturally do it (without biting them obviously). Many people say I shouldn't and I want to ask you if you could you explain me if and why sucking my cheeks in (in a very slight way) is normal. Thank you very very much
Hello. The buccinator muscles of the cheeks should contract during the oral phase of the swallow to help keep food/liquid out of the space between your teeth and cheek and to move food/liquid toward the back of your mouth in coordination with the tongue. This contraction will typically look like a subtle pulling in of the cheeks. It should not look like the cheeks are puffing outward.
@@allsleepashleythank you so much, the same goes for saliva suction, right?
@@nori3694 Saliva suction or saliva swallow?
@@allsleepashleyboth, to remove any doubt
@@nori3694 The oral phase of the saliva swallow, yes. If you mean saliva suction in that context, then yes.
I will do that now for the next 2 weeks and i will come back later
MSE or Marpe recommendations on the east coast in Canada?
Is it feasible to consider Dr. Ilya Lipkin? If not, I would reach out to his office to see if they have any trusted MARPE/MSE providers closer to you.
@@allsleepashley reached out to him and did a consult, he said he would look to see if he knows anyone near me and get back to me. Haven’t heard back yet

@@healthwithjeremy Thanks for the input. I'll look into these providers.
@@Xaxaxa43 Follow up with them. He's quite busy, so may need a reminder.
I ultimately went to Colombia. DR Osorio. Under $10000. My insurance was not willing to help at all here in Florida. Was back to work after 2 weeks.
That's quite the price! Are you happy with the results/your experience? How many months post-op are you?
Better than my expectations. Better breathing and the aesthetic outcome was life changing. All of your points are valid. But if you are willing to travel to a reputable surgeon and that surgeon checks out in person as well. A top surgeon cost can be under $10,000 overseas.
@@danielmonroy8519 Really good point. I haven't seen as many international cases, but I'm sure I will as patients realize what you're telling me. It's great to hear that you're happy with the outcome.
What's the surgeons name bro? I wanna go down there to do this
I can suction, but the bottom of my tongue is getting pulled down by the frenulum.
Thanks

What does this exercise help ? I didn’t know there were tongue exercises. The only reason I searched how to curl the tongue is because I want to learn to play the harmonica and a video I saw said to curl the tongue, which I can’t do. Thank you for the video! I’m going to also try the tongue taps
Not related to this video, but how do i fix my loud swallow? You can hear it from 10+ feet away in a quiet room.
I have a very loud swallow. Like hear it from across a quiet room. How can I fix that?
Good info
My natural tongue position is on my teeth without any pressure so my palette is narrow would resting the tip of my tongue behind my teeth in the proper area even if i wasn't actually resting the 2nd and 3rd part be a good way to start so only tip of the tongue behind teeth correctly but not the rest because i can only do that and I've been trying to swallow correctly would that eventually make it easier so that i can do it correctly? I don't want to end up with more issues but differently need to start slowly
Should you avoid this procedure if flattening of your condyles was noted on a previous scan?

Hello! I'm seeking advice on how to strengthen my upper lip. Currently, my mentalis muscle is overactive, causing a chin dimple to form when I close my lips. Furthermore, my lower lip is slightly flipped outward. When I use a cotton roll to exercise my upper lip and attempt to close my mouth, I notice increased activity in my mentalis muscle, resulting in deeper chin dimples. However, I'm confused about how this exercise will effectively target and strengthen my upper lip, as it seems to be primarily engaging my mentalis muscle. Can you please clarify the intended mechanism and benefits of this exercise for upper lip strength
Xso show us the one you didn't show really this is a real thing I had surgery and they closed it more other then opening it like they were to do 😂
I sometimes scoop the saliva to swallow, but sometimes use sides of my tongue to let the saliva come in the middle of the tongue when it is suctioned to the roof of my mouth when I swallow. Is that normal too? Using both scooping and non scooping?
thank you!
brah i have lots of problem but luckily this isn't one of them
hey there, can you clarify what the goal is between the two examples of posture given at the 2 minute mark. should the center of the tongue be pulled down creating a cave or should the middle tongue be lightly suctioned up as well?
I struggle with lifting the back of my tongue. I have to do extra effort and when I achieve it I can open my mouth much less vs only lifting the front part. Could this be related to having a tongue tie?
