    I love how the more I try and succeed to 'pull in the tongue' more narrowly the more I feel my calves, buttocks and other slackened parts of me lol pulling in too IT'S ALL CONNECTED! :)tysm

    My natural tongue position is on my teeth without any pressure so my palette is narrow would resting the tip of my tongue behind my teeth in the proper area even if i wasn't actually resting the 2nd and 3rd part be a good way to start so only tip of the tongue behind teeth correctly but not the rest because i can only do that and I've been trying to swallow correctly would that eventually make it easier so that i can do it correctly? I don't want to end up with more issues but differently need to start slowly

    Hey there, just found your channel and the content is super valuable. Just wanted to ask what you think of extractions? Do you think its damaging to do that before braces and will we have a long/narrow face?

    • @allsleepashley
      @allsleepashley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In most cases, I'd advise against extractions. They can cause narrowing of the arches and ultimately less space for the teeth and tongue. I am pro-airway and extractions have the potential to decrease airway dimensions. As for them causing a longer/narrow face... a narrower palate can cause less space for the tongue, then the tongue may rest low in the mouth, which may promote mouth-breathing, and the mouth-breathing could lengthen the face over time. In many cases, I'd recommend expansion prior to braces rather than extractions. Though, I am not a dentist or orthodontist. I'm just noting what I see clinically.

    Hi. I’ve been binging on your videos and definitely would love and NEED an adult palate expander. But I’m not sure the point of having a goal be a skinny tongue like the exercise you’re performing? Also, please give me the contact information for the palate expander doctor you used IF you’d recommend him/her to me. I’ve been trying to find someone to do ADULT palate expanders in my area, to no avail. I’m very willing to travel to find the best one. Thanks in advance. Regine

    Can you do a closer video of this exercise… I have a scalloped tongue… I am a dental hygienist… the dentist told me I suck my tongue this it is scalloped… I always had a problem of where my tongue should go and found out about Mewing…but my tongue is still scalloped… a natural path said it had to do with my spleen… I now at least can keep my tongue up on the palate… I used to speak with a lisp because my tongue felt so big… I am trying to get rid of the scallop and will try your ex recipes that look impossible to me…At least your explanations make. More sense to me…I used to have a hard time knowing what to do with my tongue…

    I get soreness in my roof and tension in my jaws when I do tongue jaw posture? Do you know what this might be? Am I just too recessed?

    • @allsleepashley
      @allsleepashley  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could just be that certain muscles are weak and uncoordinated so you are overcompensating with other muscles/movements. It could also be that you have trouble dissociating your tongue from your mandibular movement. It's difficult for me to say exactly without doing an evaluation on you. Whehre are you located? It may be worth seeing someone in person.

      @@allsleepashley I'm in Toronto. Unfortunately, our dental system is very cosmetic focused.
      I almost feel like tongue jaw posture requires a good advancement or expansion first. My jaws are just getting tight. I'm getting worried that my TMJs are worn out.

    • @allsleepashley
      @allsleepashley  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@skepticsphere5930 Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who does this kind of work in Toronto. The US dental/orthodontic world is also highly focused on cosmetics. Only outliers who are deviating from this philosophy. Change takes a long time for things like this.
      In regards to expansion and advancement before improving tongue posture, this is completely case-dependent and is rarely a black and white situation. I typically encourage training the jaw and tongue prior to doing expansion/advancement. In some cases this improves symptoms, in others, it does not. My philosophy is to do the least invasive interventions first and slowly move toward more invasive interventions only if needed.

    Hello ms. Sommers
    I have a question: I am almost 20 years old.. Is it too late to see an actual change if I go to a myofunctional therapist? I have lip incompetence, but I breathe through the nose and my tounge posture seems to be correct. I had braces a few years ago to correct an overbite, and got them off 2 years ago. Are the exercises on your channel enough or is it necessary to get professional assessment?

    • @allsleepashley
      @allsleepashley  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good questions. It depends on what your goals are. Is your main goal to achieve lip competence? I do not have an exhaustive compilation of exercises on my channel at this point so I would experiment with them depending on your goals, but would not use them as a replacement for myofunctional therapy. Have you gone through the myofunctional therapy self-assessment video series I have posted? I offer free online initial consultations. Feel free to schedule through sommerspt.com if you need more guidance.

    Mam what will happen if we keep our tongue at bottom and breath through our nose(not keeping tongue on palate).. will it cause face or chin to elongate? Or ruin face?. Pls reply

    • @allsleepashley

      Maybe. There are too many variables to say "definitively yes". I've seen outliers.
