00:00 The importance of this question. Hire the right person!
01:00 Not all jaw surgeons are created equal. Protect yourself.
**Correction: Some surgeons are more prone to taking higher risks and some are more conservative.
01:45 STEP ONE: Do your research!
02:06 Yes, Maybe, No list
02:20 Preliminary search: A. Ask known airway providers. B. Search Facebook, Reddit, etc. C. Connect with patients who have had jaw surgery with surgeons you're considering.
04:15 Consider dates of reviews
05:10 Secondary search: Dig on Google!
5:58 Narrow your list to 3-5 surgeons.
07:16 Avoid online consultations -- In-person is much better.

Thanks for this video! Could you do a list of some basic but important questions to ask surgeons?
Yes! That's next on my list.
It’s nice to see you are back. Keep up the good work. Make more helpful videos like this.

Please suggest exercises that helps to keep back of the tongue on the palate
Would love that
you look ok now
Wow you look a lot different. Incredible.
I don't know if you have a different mic or if it's the surgery, but your voice sounds a lot more open.
How did your bottom teeth line up with top teeth after widening?

im trying to figure out what orthodontist i should chose.
are orthodontic clinics that also provide myofuctional therapy better? because when applying braces they will not create end result that will interfere with correct tongue posture.
If the orthodontist has an in-house myofunctional therapist, it will simply mean they are aware of the importance of tongue posture and, I'd guess, less likely to apply retractive forces during orthodontic treatment. This is not a great way to choose an orthodontist though. It simply gives you clues about their overarching philosophy. Where are you located? I may have recommendations.
@@allsleepashley thank you, thats very good answer.
3 weeks post op after DJS. My lip assymetry is stronger than before. Can I relean how to talk more symmetrically?
It depends on the root cause(s) of the asymmetry. You have a long wait ahead of you. The soft tissue takes a very long term to recover (up to a year) and nerve recovery can take even longer. It's a waiting game to see where things settle. It may be worth starting some form of oral motor therapy sooner rather than later to see if you can expedite healing/recovery/symmetry. Where are you located? Maybe there is someone local who can help you with this.
@@allsleepashley I'm in Houston, TX. Could you recommend someone?!
@@lanael7278 Unfortunately, I'm not aware of anyone in your area who can help with this. You may want to search the AOMT or IAOM website for providers in your area. I recommend trying to find a myofunctional therapist who is also a physical therapist. If you can't find someone in person, I could help you virtually.
Im thinking lacoms how about that??!!since instituto maxilofacial in barcelona is too far i just need to confirm they do counter rotation... Btw im 28 years old do you think my condyles will be too worn at my age or 30???
