How Deadpool and Wolverine Ruined Logan (Respectfully)
Deadpool and Wolverine had it's work cut out for it, bringing back Wolverine in a way that wouldn't detract from the ending of Logan. And yet despite that, the movie managed to put any concerns we may have had to rest with one of the funniest and most creative opening scenes in any of the X-Men movies. Let's take a look and see why.

How Monsters Inc Exposes Systemic Abuse
มุมมอง 193K21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Pixar's Monsters Inc is one of the most beloved animated films ever made. It's funny, it's creative, it's emotional but it also has some fairly dark themes when you stop to think about it. In this video, we'll explore how the monster world largely accepts unethical business practices and how Mike and Sulley realise they've contributed to that, simply because it's normal to them. Why Monsters University is (Occasionally) a Masterpiece
มุมมอง 48K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
Fans of animation will often be quick to tell you that Pixar have been hit or miss for a long time now. But there's one movie which captures a lot of the magic of Disney and one of their best studios even if not all of it lives up to expectations. That animated film is Monsters University. So come join me on this review, video essay and character analysis of Mike and Sully in their early years....
Why Venom: The Last Dance is Worse Than Expected
มุมมอง 1.2K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Venom 2018 and Venom: Let There Be Carnage are probably the best the Sony Spider-Man Universe have to offer. They're still pretty bad but compared to the other movies in this cinematic universe, you could do worse. So I went into Venom: The Last Dance very low expectations and it still wound up a disappointment. Let's take a look and see what went wrong. Patreon: www.patreon.com/StuartBarron Tw...

How BATMAN AND ROBIN Could Have Been Great
I'm putting it out there. The kids are animals and the monsters are humans. This is literally a Vegan story and a metaphor for how humans exploit animals and ignore their sentience. 😢
Fine Ill watch cars again
Now this is an excellent analysis.
i couldn't help but laugh my ass off watching this scene
Ha! Yeah, 911
This changes where and when I watch DP and W on the MCU timeline grind.
I remember watching this sequence play out in the theater with my friend. When Bye Bye Bye started playing and he used Logan’s corpse to kill the TVA grunts we looked at each other and said “we are so fucking back”
I think the university thing is less a story problem and more a worldbuilding problem
The King is based off the 69 Charger Daytona/Plymouth Superbird which actually had a spoiler that tall, it’s not due to him being “higher then everybody else”. The driver that made the car known was Richard “The King” Petty hence The King being modeled after his car.
The opening fight against the Underminer alone undermined the ending to the first movie to me. The ending shot of the family coming together as a new superhero team ushering the return of superheroes was a perfect ending shot and the discord between the parents suddenly wanting the kids to keep out of the fight was a complete tonal whiplash IMO. Anyway, the best part of the movie was the new supers, and rather than bringing back the old cast and trying to follow-up directly from a 14 year old(?) movie ending they should've focused more on this new generation figuring out how to be supers in a new era, instead of wasting them on the mind control plot.
Logan was trash so this made me feel wayyyyyy better, thank you for reconning the ruination of my favorite character
Logan, the movie? It was a very different kind of movie than I was expecting, and it made me feel upset and uncomfortable, but I thought it was a great movie. It was clearly meant to make the voter feel that way, and it very much succeeded. I don't think it was disrespectful to the character, either.
The explosion would have been a bad choice regardless. The CDA would have been trying to kill the kid, whereas in the final version they were only ever trying to get the kid safely home because the CDA already knew human children weren't toxic. They just keep up the act, I assume, to keep the monsters from invading the human world. So to kill a child they knew was no danger to monsters would have made the CDA into an evil organization.
5:47 While I still think that the CDA straight up exploding the building is funny, I actually find the revised version of the scene to be much funnier. It implies that the CDA has access to some insane alien-like technology which does who knows what to the restaurant (was it purged of all organic matter? Disintegrated? Transported to another dimension?) and yet they use this technology to... Try to get rid of a human toddler.
The Monsters at Work did fairly good job of showing the transition to laugh power. In the show, it shows that laugh power is thought as fringe science.
I haven't watched this movie in quite some time, but the mechanical extraction with the machine and the uncaring nature of the children's abuse as a means to profit is... a quite gruesome, yet honest, metaphor for industrial animal husbandry and I don't think the authors even thought about that!
is that... a heckin video essayerino about social commentary??? updooted!
"the changed scene is too vague" That's what makes it better, in my opinion. You know that the CDA's job is to disinfect stuff. That has already been established. You don't know exactly what is going on besides that one crucial piece of information. And honestly, nothing is scarier.
9:22 I just want to say and take a moment to praise the recent cartoon about Monster Inc where Sully talks about this incident and while I haven't seen the cartoon in it's entirety I'm happy with the way it handled Sully's guilt over what he'd done.
I watched that show with my cusions when I was 6 and all the girls loved mirage, which annoyed me to a point I started crying! because I had the exact same complaints about her and I viewed her as a selfish hypocrite too. (I gues I was just a veryyy inteligent 6 yo to undrestand all of that XD)
The whole movie was just bad.
Yep.
Capitalism will be the death of us all
Well, it teased that there's a comic accurate and better version of Old Man Logan out there in the multiverse.
I remember when I first watched this movie…it felt like only half of a movie…and it’s probably not a good sign when my least favorite character in your Flash movie…IS Flash
4:58 This is what Dodge Charger Daytona looked like. That car was an actual kind
Cant be even dead yet in deadpool time line, its like 2022 whatever, and logan events is like 2030s... no?
They kinda forgot that Logan would have another 5 years of life to him.
Deadpool was grieving. He knew he died in the 2nd movie. Finding out his world was dying, he was hoping Wolverine was alive to save his world.
I hated Logan. Worst Wolverine movie, period. Don't care about your opinions either.
Y'know, they did such a good job downplaying exactly how messed-up these monsters' jobs are that I never realized it until AFTER I watched this video. XD
The thing I think people forgot is that this is supposed to be a comedy. Of course they’re going to do some thing outlandish with the original Wolverine, but they still do the character a lot of respect by stating that he was the most important person in the universe and they have the restraint of not reviving him so that his story can have a definitive ending. Compare that to a product that came out the same year as this movie: suicide squad kill the justice league That game took a Batman, whose fate was intentionally supposed to be ambiguous and brought him back to life just so he could get murdered by a bunch of C List super villains with a couple rifles
I would add that it is also respectful as it does not retcon or deconstruct the Wolverine from the Logan movie. In lot of sequels they try to re-contextualize or repaint the actions of the main hero usually in a negative light. In Deadpool and Wolverine there is nothing of that, the Wolverine we knew in the movie is the same one we loved. No shocking revelations about him, no showing his actions were actually tainted by something else. In fact they do a good job of continuing the idea of Logan by having other characters recognize how heroic he was, and by the scenes with Laura where she remembers Logan for the hero he was.
Can you make a follow up video where these themes continue in monsters at work?
Wow, very disrespectful of yout to avoid mentioning the tragedy of 9/11. We need to be strong and show that terrorism will not effect us, and you are sullying that, giving power to the terrorists. No pun intended.
It's gross, brutal, and completely disrespectful to the memory of Wolverine and the original Xman movies... It is the most comic book accurate thing Deadpools ever done in a live action movie
And it also signals they won't bring back the wolverine we have been following. as they literally showed a corpse. just so Disney couldn't milk it
By your accent I’m gonna go with upper middle class for 500 Alex
You missed the biggest one, when Deadpool is trying to take Wolverine's claws out of someone's ass: - "make it stop!" - "Mangold tried!"
Woah. I just realized that after the monsters turn the scaring industry into a laugh floor that the kids will now see the monsters as their imaginary friends! I also thought that was a little too convenient for monsters and human children to change their social dynamic overnight, but when you consider how the monsters gradually distance themselves from the children as they age, it would make sense that the monsters would become half forgotten childhood memories of weird imaginary friends. I am not invested in the Pixar Theory, but perhaps Bing-Bong from "Inside Out" is based off Riley's memories of her monster! Her fear of clowns could be based off an earlier monster encounter, a real-life experience, or a "laugh session" gone wrong where her monster frightened her by mistake.
Thats the thing though, kids are toxic. What could just be a flu or annoying chicken pox for a kid, could be extremely deadly to a monster who is most likely a completely different species. Otherwise great vid!
I love this movie
kinda wish you talked more about how this applies in the real world, like people within capitalism that get the short end of the stick in afrian mines or chinese factories etc being dismissed as "natural" or just the way the world works
"i hope rebel moon ends up good" god, that's unfortunate.
Hmmm…
video stinks, its all surface level commentary. no real analysis
true
Since Toy Story 4 was brought up, I want to say that I do think its existence was warranted, even if 3 was conclusive, and regardless of actual opinions on it. It finally forces Woody to confront what *he* wants, rather than what Andy, or rather Bonnie, wants. Bonnie is not Andy, she doesn't care about him the way Andy does, and while the first three movies cement Woody's belief that a toy's purpose is to be there for their kid, this friend-like figure, 4 serves to challenge this notion, asking "What if this person in your life doesn't reciprocate, no matter how much effort you put into the relationship"? It challenges that co-dependence Woody clung to, even after he was able to say goodbye to Andy.
I wish he did not mock God with all the Jesus and Mysia "jokes".
I wish religious people could still take a joke when it's directed at them instead of someone else
In fairness to the 4th grade line, they theoretically could've just... attended the same school together, but not really been forced to interact until college. If anything, it kind of suggests their relationship may not have been a good one. This is a bit of a stretch, but from what I remember at least, not an implausible one.
My take on the whole "Logan being dead" thing is Deadpool's knowledge beyond the 4th wall of how these things traditionally go in the comics. Wolverine has regenerated from much more horrific and deadly injuries; but on the big screen, specifically the MCU where they have (somewhat) kept things more grounded and realistic, there was no way he was living through those injuries. It works to subvert both audiences, and Deadpool's expectations after teeing up the scenario.
Well the Xman movies were not in the MCU but same logic applies
Wish is full of incredible ideas with poor execution. It was so incredibly rushed in production, where the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing (the lyricist had, what, three weeks to write her songs, based off of the vaguest plot points they could give her?). It needed more time to cook, and either should have started production MUCH earlier than was announced, or should NOT have been pushed to be the 100th anniversary film.
I'd say that from the monsters perspective, they don't even have to treat human children like children. I mean, think what people do with children of other species and how people treat them
That's why I love good children's movies. They do have a meaning, so that when you come back as you age, you discover how much depth they really have. You get to ponder the themes that stuck with you subconciously from childhood :)
Why are all your clips of the movie PAL pitched? Kind of a strange choice
Not to mention that Logan is glorified as an incredible hero, in that his presense literally keeps the universe alive (funny jab at how he's easily the most popular aspect of those old X-men movies). Whereas the new Wolverine is literally the worst one, he's more cynical and angry and instead of wanting his place in the world he wants the damage he did to the world undone. It's a very nice contrast to show that they are different characters despite technically not being at all.
It’s also kind of a jab at how that popularity was forced on us in a way. The FoX-Men movies made it clear that every single character took a back seat to Wolverine. That in their eyes, nobody else mattered. The FoX-Men timeline was dying without Wolverine as an “anchor being” because 20th Century Fox literally anchored the entire franchise to him. Even if he wasn’t a part of the story at all, they’d find a way to shove in a cameo just to remind us that he’s the only one who really matters.
@@joebove4I just watched the first X-Men movie and they _really_ didn't do any of the characters any favors, including Wolverine. It's not a _bad_ movie, but it's a bad X-Men movie. The opening scene was very good, at least.
