I agree with everything! The first time I watched the UK version, I audibly LAUGHED when I heard them, not because they did a bad job, but because this was such a jarring scene to have them be in. Like... it just didn't work. It could only(maybe) work, if the technicians were in the movie before this scene, so the phannies in the audience could adjust to them voicing characters who will inevitably be in a really serious and tense moment.
Okay so it wasn't just me. I can see where you're coming from, suggesting they should have been in an earlier scene. They probably didn't because Dan and Phil aren't actors and they wanted to keep it as straightforward as possible.
OMG casting them as the loud unapologetic roomates from zootopia would have been fantastic! It would have fitted them perfectly!
