Great take! I usually find many things that adaptations lack, but I agree with you on this one! In the end every medium has its strengths and weaknesses.
Thanks. I do generally think that the best adaptations are the ones that are willing to take advantage of the new medium rather than just copying or even ignoring the source material. Although, saying that, I have seen some really fantastic adaptations that are either extremely faithful or extremely disconnected from the original so I guess you gotta take it on a case by case basis.
Such a great game and TV show. I still haven't finished playing TLoU2. I'm stuck in the yard with all the shipping containers and Stalkers. I've been so terrified to finish playing it for years now lol.
I'm personally in the camp of people who really love the second game. Considering all the adjustments they made to the plot of the show and how divisive the second game was, I'm insanely curious to see what the second season is gonna do.
@@stuartbarron7117 even though I didn't like the direction they went with in part 2 i liked the idea on paper however the execution of it was poorly done imo.
Feel like I'm the only one that didn't like the show. It was okay. The main dynamic which is like the central point of the entire story between Ellie and Joel didn't feel natural and there wasn't enough time for them to connect like in the game. This made the finale lackluster for me as well. I admit episode 3 or whichever with bill and frank was very well made and episode 5 where the guy shoots his little brother was also very well done. The rest 7/10.
Changing bill made his character useless. In the game hes meant to be the dark parallel of who Joel could become. Now hes a 2nd Tommy. I think if they had bill and frank grow together over 10 years with Frank eventually leaving would still be more powerful. Along with still having a bunch of scenes of Ellie and Joel bonding. Which is the biggest reason the show doesn’t work. The fact anyone can think Ellie and Joels relationship felt rushed is absurd. Tho i think your overall point is correct. I just disagree that the tlou show specifically did anything better. And dating sims are a thing so you could get all your expansive love stories thru video games too
Regarding your point about dating sims, I'm sure a video game could do a good romantic story like what the show did. My point was just that the romantic subplot that the show presents wouldn't have worked in a game like The Last of Us, specifically. While the game does have an in depth story and that's a large part of the appeal, it has to built around a lot of action scenes because that's what the gameplay consists of. I'm not arguing that either version is better or worse but it shows why there is value in making an adaptation because it allows for new possibilities.
@@stuartbarron7117 So are you saying if they randomly shoved in a full bill and frank story in the middle of tlou as it stands it wouldnt work? Or that if it was properly restructured to tell the Bill and frank story it still wouldnt work? Bc adding scenes to something that isnt made to have those scenes obviously isnt gonna work. But if the last of us was allowed to properly build Bills story it would work. Ellies dlc is light on action but heavy on the love story and its a beloved dlc. They didnt expand on the bill and frank story on the game bc it didnt matter to the plot only the outcome did. Episode 3 of the show ripped away the bonding of Ellie and Joel to tell a generic love story that didnt service the plot in anyway.
The thing that doesn't make sense is why they made a game for their story of people when it's gonna work better in something that you WATCH
This and Fallout have been the best in years.
I haven't played or watched Fallout but I agree that it's very reassuring to see the show get such good reviews.

Which Michael bay films do you think are coherent, have you seen the island 2005, 13 hours, transformers 2007, the rock, pain and gain.

Honestly, there's a lot of discussion you could have about which version is better so it's fine if you prefer the game.

I didn’t like the show at all
I can respect your opinion.
I see why you don't like it my biggest criticism about the game is that it's too fast
The director admitted he just wanted to cram a gay love story in this.
