“More real than real.” This famous quote from the sci-fi classic Blade Runner could be the motto of scale RC model builders. I love seeing good scale RC driving video and not being sure if I am looking at a model or a real truck. I’m fairly new to the hobby but decided to mix my new interest in RC with my passion for photography. RC Stories is about challenging myself to tell fun and compelling stories featuring RC cars (scale trucks to be more precise).

What goes UP must come DOWN! Element RC Ecto Rock Crawling
The Element RC Ecto visits the boulder piles at Harvie Passage. The large limestone and quartzite blocks here are cemented together as part of the low-head damn floodway conversion.
A roll-over here can send you tumbling into the icy cold water. The Ecto did so once, but luckily, and comically, landed bobbing on an ice flow with one wheel still grasping at dry land… th-cam.com/users/shorts5n3w4-lY_SQ
It may not look it in the video, but this is urban Calgary, and one of the loudest places in the city. Sandwiched between two major roads, the busiest highway in the province, the cascading river, and jets in the airport flyway, you will be glad when you can step away somewhere quieter. For several unfortunate souls forced to camp in the nearby trees, this is not an option. Homelessness sucks, and it feels awkward driving and filming here, while thinking about those who have almost nothing.
To lighten up the mood, I went for a high-contrast and saturated look to the video and added a soundtrack that evokes the carefree spirit of Saturday morning cartoons. The music suits the manic, Keystone Cops, driving.

Thanks was thinking of running a fusion se in my trx4 sport high trail with winch kit couldn't figure out what voltage it would take if I could run it directly off the battery by soldering a jst lead to the power wires on the power wires but I like that balance Port option

This paint cracking, i had something similar on my best ever job😢 i done a cracked paint pattern in fluorescent yellow with metal purple as main colour , on a Hakusa skyline. I fiberglassed body & from bumps & twists the paint lifted off sticking to fiberglass. I used correct inside paint but what i recently found out is i should have Keyed the body, that & fiberglass sticking to paint lifted it off

How are the metal tracks in deep fluffy snow? Added weight doesnt make it sink? What about stress of additional rotating mass on already fragile transmission?

Thanks for the tire recommendation! I do like the Grabbers as an all-around tire, but even making this video I felt like they were holding back the Ecto. They aren’t the stickiest tires and those limestone boulders can be slick. I will give Ruptures a try.

Nice. I’ve run KM3 on several vehicles. They actually do quite good in snow and ice. I had the RC4WD versions and the tread lacked bite in dirt and mud. For rock crawling I’ve been leaning towards more aggressive treads lately (Krawler T/A or Super Swamper TSL/SX). Of course it all depends on the local surfaces. Cheers!

Who makes the headlights
That’s a MyTrickRC light kit (the centre and halo parts are separate). With their DG-1 controller I can remotely set several different configurations and brightness levels. Unfortunately, due to supply issues they now only provide the kit with the “dumb” HB-2 controller (mytrickrc.com/products/axial-scx10-iii-rubicon-light-kit-hb-2) or you can get the lights separately.
We have a good word in Sweden, it's "villhöver". It's a combination of Vill ha (want) and Behöver (need) ;) I really villhöver this car! 😂😂

Seems like they didn't calculate floating well enough. It doesn't stop, but it belly rubs all the time 🤔
I noticed the belly drag in this video too. The snow was quite fluffy. But it doesn’t really negatively affect the driving. Maybe with the plastic tracks it floats more, but the metal tracks drive better. Wesołych Świąt!

It’s actually unseasonably warm, with positive daytime temps, though it will be around -5°C overnight. We did get snow Saturday, so it is a white Christmas. Have a Happy Holiday!

Thanks, you too! If you do get a Blizzard, do plan on upgrading to the metal tracks. They make a world of difference. Also, get a cheap LiPo alarm (www.amazon.com/Battery-Monitor-Voltage-Checker-Indicator/dp/B013U1CP08) and run the Blizzard on 2s instead of NiMh. You’ll get way better run time. The stock ESCs can handle 2s, but do not have low voltage cut-off. That is why you need the alarm.

Yeah, I get nervous about that too. Not really about safety, but more about battery longevity. But for low current applications, like a few LED lights, it’s probably okay. You are right though, with no low voltage cutoff you could damage the cell of the battery if you run it all the way down. The XH to JST adaptor I show in the video is wired to draw voltage from all 3-cells of a 3S (hence the 12.3V reading). But some devices, like the MyTrickRC HB-2 light controller, only work on up to 2s voltage and yet they provide a 3s XH to JST adaptor-I wonder if they have the adaptor wired to only 2 cells (8.2V)? I have a MyTrickRC DG-1 which came with such an adaptor, but I can’t find it to test it.
