Autumn Rock Crawling! - VS4-10 Phoenix

  • The last time we had the Phoenix out on the trails it was February and it felt like spring was around the corner. Now, it’s mid-September and autumn is definitely here. The poplar and aspen leaves are changing colour and and nights are getting cool. But autumn doesn’t mean an end to warm days, and we took advantage of the sun (and low water) to do some rock crawling at the river bank.
We were travelling over the summer and I had to suffer RC withdrawal for almost three months. It’s good to be back out driving and fall is one of my favourite times of year.
I’m getting used to shooting with the full-frame MILC video rig. I think I’ve dialled the settings and I’m getting the hang of composing and focusing. Recently I simplified/lightened my setup and started shooting with a 24mm f/1.8 prime lens. While a zoom lens gives me the option to shoot at longer focal lengths, I really don’t need it, and even in daytime the wider aperture combined with a variable ND filter lets me use selective focus creatively. As the daylight hours decrease, the fast aperture will also let me film earlier or later in the day.
The downside of using the larger camera rig is that filming takes more time, and videos are turning out shorter than I would like them to be. I will be working on that.

That is the Tamiya 4x4 Driver Figure (#54416). It works well in most 1/10 scale vehicles. It is not posable, but the arms can me moved a bit before attaching.

@Matteomeier uses this figure in most of his builds.
