My husband and I just listed to the audiobook: Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson. So good! We both really enjoyed it…together! Keep doing what you guys are doing, love watching together!
I started my Wheel of Time journey with New Spring: Prequel to Wheel of Time. It really helped once Moiraine and Lan are introduced, it's their backstory and explains so much. Enjoy your reading.
Audio books are listening to a story being read to you. It is not the same. It's a fact. There's nothing wrong with it, though. It's just a different way to consume information.
OMG, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your book cover grannie squares, are you kidding me! I wish I knew how to crochet, ugh! I want to make a book cover grannie square book bag! Thanks for the GN recommendation, 100% picking this book up. Currently reading: Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2), A Court of Silver Flames, and 2/1 I'll be starting Dark Matter with you guys on Patreon; yay!
I think Beloved by Toni Morrison taught me more about the horrors of slavery than any history book ever could. Being able to put yourself in the shoes of someone experiencing a historical event makes the history come alive.
That's a very valid point. One I have come to believe myself.
Love to hear your thoughts on LEAD ME WHERE THE LIGHT IS OURS! I especially want to hear a guy's view of it. . IT IS SO THOUGHT PROVOKING ! Love!🌠🌟🌠🌟🌠
🤔Not sure I've hear of that one before. I will look into it. Thanks for the recommendation.
I feel like I go back and forth in different seasons of life. There have been times when I was only reading nonfiction and I read some great books! But definitely not as entertaining lol
Totally! However, there are some very entertaining non-fiction books. But I know what you mean.
@@GoodBooksLately True! Stephen King's "On Writing" and Matthew Kelly's "Life is Messy" come to mind.
I really enjoy both podcasts! Currently, I am listening to The Vampires of El Norte. I am about 10 chapters in and am wondering where are the vampires? Aside from that, I'm enjoying the story telling. Thanks for your content! I look forward to your new videos every week!
Hi Monica! Thank you for watching. And I’m glad you’re enjoying VoEN. The vampires in this book are not typical vampires. And in fact you’ll find that it’s more of a symbol for a particular group of people. Keep listening. I think it will all start making sense soon.
Hi guys, for me The night circus was my best book of 2024, I loved it soooo much. I'm currently reading a thriller that you may like and maybe want to read together " Beautiful ugly " by Alice Feeney. It's perfect for a shared reading because you can have a lot of ideas on what's happening in the history and it's super thrilling and confusing. It's so frustrating that I can't talk to anyone about my ideas! Happy reading! 😉📚
Oooo this sounds good! Thank you! And I totally know that feeling about not being able to bounce thoughts and questions off of another person reading the same book.
I’m currently reading The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman (3rd Thursday Murder Club). I’m only 60 pages in so haven’t really formed an opinion on it yet. However, I do think the second book in the series is better than the first as I liked Ibrahim’s storyline and how all the characters rallied to support him.
The “Has no stocks” that popped up…💀
😂
If you're looking for some books that are quite visual/interactive that aren't graphic novels/comic books I would recommend The Griffin and Sabine Saga by Nick Bantock or The Venetian's Wife also by Nick Bantock or The Tattooed Map by Barbara Hodgson.
Wow! Thanks for the wonderful recommendations. We will for sure look out for these.
I read The Haunting of Velkwood today and would definitely recommend it. 👍
Oh cool! We will check it out.
I totally agree with Tayler about maps! There’s a series I read that I loosely call fantasy because it’s a mystery series where the characters are woodland creatures. Each book has a map and will include any new areas mentioned in that story. I’m totally here because of WNH and geeked out a bit when you shared your granny squares! They’re looking so good a book bag is the perfect thing to do with those. Will you make a bag at the end of the year to commemorate the books you’ve completed this year or will you make it when you just have enough to make a bag? Lastly, I think there was another author who did another treasure search, but the treasure was a key and when the key was authenticated, you got a gemstone? Josh Gates did an episode on the series on his Expedition Unknown show and followed a reader who actually found the key in a baseball field that was being turned into a building, so they had to stop construction to film the show (or so it appeared). Because construction had started, the key was actually destroyed, but they found enough pieces to put together so the guy could claim his prize. If I remember correctly, the author had passed away, but his wife presented the recipient with his gemstone. Josh Gates also did an episode on Forrest Fenn, so it was fun when you mentioned him.
When you held up the treasure hunt book, it was blurry at first and I thought the author was Joan Collins 😮!
😅😅that would be something!
I'm listening to "Remarkably Bright Creatures" and reading Stephen King's "Thinner". Thanks for sharing good stuff!
Thanks for listening. I've heard great things about Remarkably Bright Creatures. ❤️
I read several of the Wheel of Time novels. I enjoyed them up to a point, then it got REALLY dark and felt as if Robert Jordan was no longer telling a story as much as finding ways to torture the characters (and the readers) for fun. At that point, I found other things to occupy my time. 🙂 But I know people who have read the whole series and loved it. To each his/ her own.
Interesting, well when we get to that point down the line we will happily share our experiences with you all. ❤️
Wow, fun stuff here! You are the first "BookTubers" I watch. You have some fascinating suggestions! Trying to figure out when you guys sleep! Thanks for sharing!
😂 Trust me, we value our sleep. I'm glad to hear we are your first book tubers. Hopefully you can enjoy some of the ones we suggested as well.
Thanks for the good suggestions! Two of my favorite booktubers are Willow Talks Books and Mike’s Book Reviews. Willow gives sophisticated, interesting reviews without spoiling books, and Mike is Gen X gold, lol.
Wonderful! I think I've watched some of Mike's videos before. He does a great job. We'll have to check out Willow though. ❤️👍
At Joann’s you can buy fabric you can print in the printer. Maybe you could print the book covers or makes tags for the back of your coasters. If it was me, I would forget what they all were within a month! 😅
Omg I love this idea!!!
Great podcast - I really enjoyed the book Dark Matter❤
So glad to hear that! Thank you so much. Glad you liked the podcast.
Hi, great podcast. Tayler I gifted you a book related pattern on Ravelry today. It’s called The Book Snake. For knitters…. Like your granny square project. Enjoy!
Aw Astrid thank you so much!! I can’t wait. Branden was actually mentioning this to me today. Such a cool idea and you’re so sweet for thinking of me. ❤️
Fun idea with the crochet squares! Can't wait to see what it ends up being. By happenstance, I also just finished Kitchen Confidential (I listened on audio). I enjoyed it until about 3/4 of the way through, then I found the stories of his many moves from restaurant to restaurant and the antics of his colleagues to be repetitive and a bit like you had to be there (like hearing good friends' inside jokes or memories) or maybe I'm just no fun! Lol! I enjoyed his tips on must have kitchen tools and ingredients and his explanation of how a kitchen preps and runs, as I have always been curious about that. I don't think I would pick up anymore of his books but he was definitely a dynamic character. You might enjoy the Books Unbound podcast. There are two hosts and they read broadly but they like some fantasy, Stephen King and graphic novels. In the past year or so, they started posting their podcast on TH-cam but it was originally (and can still be listened to as) an audio podcast. I'm interested in your book club but I'm waiting for a book that I haven't read already (Night Circus) or am interested in (I watched Dark Matter and it wasn't form me but if you end up enjoying the book, I'm sure you would like the show), so please keep announcing here what you will be reading in future months.
I can see what you mean about the stories of him in the trenches so to say, it did have me a bit like "okay, I get it," but I also enjoyed his ability to describe everything. As for the book club, totally understand that. We will make sure to keep the people hear informed as we move on to new books. It is a fun part of the process figuring out the next book.
In a past video you reviewed "God of the Woods", got it, read it, LOVED it! Thank you for the recommendation!❤
So glad you enjoyed it! I still think about from time to time. Such a memorable read. Thank you for watching!
Love y'all! Always look forward to your videos and what y'all are reading. I also knit so also watch your knitting channel as well. Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much! And yes. Please do check out the knitting podcast. I think you’d enjoy it. ❤️
Wanted to say thanks for recommending the book “ The God in the Woods” by Liz Moore! I just finished it this afternoon and am still processing WTH happened! I really enjoyed it, especially because I grew on the east coast and my BIL was a NYS trooper and an investigator. Fun video as usual 👏👍📚
So glad you enjoyed it! It’s a solid favorite and I still find myself thinking about it.
Hi Tayler! I love your book bag idea! I’m curious, what yarn are you using for your granny squares?
Thank you!! So this is all just leftovers from my stash that are roughly the same weight. I’m having fun finding bits that match the colors on the covers. 😊
I love the idea of making a granny square for each book read then turning them into a quilt at the end of the year. The only problem is that I don’t know how to make a granny square 😂.
😂😂 That might pose a problem but you could always learn. 😁
Thanks so much! Really nice of you to share these recommendations.
You are so welcome! Felt like we share what we like about the community we are apart of.
Great vlog as usual. I keep seeing the Scott Lynch book everywhere. Need to pick up a copy. Enjoy your reading 📚
I know. We were in a Barnes and Noble the other day and they had a whole stack of them on a table.
I read and thoroughly enjoyed "The Wager" while traveling home from Mexico. It was a long trip but the book really put travel in perspective for me! Several plane trips is really nothing compared to what those men endured. I'm currently reading 11/22/63. It's only my second Stephen King novel (the first being Fairy Tale).
Oh wow! I loved the Wagwr as well. Really puts sea travel at that time in perspective. I've also read both of those King novels and loved each one. 👍❤️
Loved my reread of The Night Circus, can't for the live discussion, got so much more out of it the second time around. Currently reading, Go To Help by Erika Englehaupt, a non-fiction put out my National Geographic about all the "hellish" places on Earth and for fiction, The Beguiled by Thomas Cullinan. It's a historical gothic set in Civil War days. I am really enjoying it. It has been adapted to film starring Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell, and Kirsten Dunst. Looking forward to reading Dark Matter, picked up my copy from the library yesterday! Thinking of starting the granny squares also, a book bag is a great idea. Love your channel!
Should be Go To Hell, auto correct did not approve, LOL
Wonderful! We are excited for the Live as well. So much to discuss! 😁
Oh good to hear about The Beguiled, I picked that book up second hand last year....I'll have to bump it up my tbr.
I love watching your knitting blog Tayler! (Although I am a crocheter, your yarn reviews are IT.) And just when I decide to track my reading by starting a reading journal, I search for reading journal and book review vids … And this series of videos pop up!! I am so loving your reviews and the interaction between you two! You’ve got a fan for life, whether you’re discussing knitting, yarn, or your love of books. Oh yes…book granny squares… I’m doing that via a Facebook group. But I’ll be there for yours as well, if you decide to start one.
I’m so glad you’re here for this too! Welcome and thank you so much for your sweet words. That means a great deal to me. Also love that you’re making granny’s squares for your books as well!

lol I used to feel the same way and I still have a couple of shelves of non-fiction. Glad I’m not the only one! 😅
I mean there is a level of truth to it, but I am quickly understanding the value of fiction as well. That said, I will always be drawn to a good non-fiction book.
@ Same! I find memoirs sooo interesting!
Wowwww Mr. Brandon! You broke my heart saying that😂😂
I don't feel that way any more. Let's just clarify. I had that opinion at one point, but have recently come to love fiction and understand its value to growth.
@@GoodBooksLately I’m glad to hear it💕
👍😁
"That time in my life..." maybe the number one reason why a book hits or fails for a person? One of the things I love about youtube is hearing so many people from different backgrounds discuss books/stories. Some are just opinions, some are academic but some are just so personal. You get really good recommendations but also good distillments of books you might not want to read. That is also a good reason to listen to some books. I could not get through Charles Dickens (except for A Christmas Carol which I love) until I recently listened to all 36+ hours of Richard Armitage reading the audio version of David Copperfield. Amazing! Highly recommend! Maybe listening to Catcher in the Rye would put you in a different headspace. Or just looking up someone else's take. Books'n'Cats on TH-cam does phenomenal explorations on various 'classics'. My h and I were blown away from her The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas series (I think there's 3 videos?) (Oh- and my hot take about books is about Romeo and Juliet so I'll share for fun's. R & J is a tragedy. It was written as a tragedy. Says so right in the intro monologue. Much Ado About Nothing is a romance 😉)
Excellent points. I think you are spot on with, the take that at certain moments in our lives stories hold more value. Tayler and I are actually planning on doing something along those lines soon. I also think audio books are great to help people get into new genres that are tricky or tough for them to read. Sometimes hearing others read it to you helps with getting yourself in the right mindset.
Rogue One! amazing ending!!!
One hundred percent!
I'm always reading multiple books at the same time and it drives some people crazy. I heard another book-tuber say she explains it by asking "Do you only watch one tv show at a time?" And as for overconsumption: if reading is your thing- buy as many books as you want! Like you said, its not heroin! However, if someone is implying that book-tubers who stress buying beyond your means or reading as many books as possible- that I kind of feel is irresponsible. At least to me. (I loved your stop judging comment 😄)
Perfectly stated. Love it. Thank you so much!
About the 'pretentious' comment: This is how I think of it, sometimes I want to listen to a lecture and sometimes I want to listen to a friend. 🙂 Also- my hubby and I started playing dnd with our adult daughter and her friend a few years back. I can not recommend t-rpg's with your family enough! Shared story-telling is an amazing way to get to know and discuss deeper elements of ourselves. (We have another friend playing too now - so 5 total which is ideal.)
Wonderful! That's what we are excited about too. ❤️ Love that!
Love finding new people! Here are some of my faves that i think are thoughtful, fun, insightful, and always give me good recs! StephMorgan_ Mrs.PizzaReads BooksandLala
Awesome! Thank you for the added recommendations. We'll give them a watch for sure. ❤️❤️❤️
@GoodBooksLately oh also wanna mention Lit Vibes with Five. He hasn't posted in a few months but he's very fun to me bc he actually just got back into reading as an adult and is discovering so many books that a lot of us have already read or heard about it. It's kinda cool to see the stories through a new perspective. He reads anything and everything too! Also just a casual vibe
Cool. Adding it to my list. 😁👍
I look at your channel and I just smile. Y'all are great! Between Two Fires and the Stand. Two books I am excited to read myself!
Yay! Thank you! I'm glad you like what we are doing.❤️ I meant to ask in response to your previous comment, but what is your favorite book?
@@GoodBooksLately Name of the Wind :) I'm actually doing another video on it soon.
Wonderful! We will be on the look out for it then. Also, Name of the Wind is on my to read list as well.
Y'all are my new fav channel! I am in the wheel house of Audiobooks are not reading. I don't use the word "literally" a lot. But literally this is true. I think they are just two different experiences. Your brain is either listening or reading. However, I somewhat sit in both houses. Though I like to read with my eye balls and feel like it is truly more rewarding, I grew up with a blind mom. She had to use audio books to enjoy books. I am not going to look down on people who audiobook. People have different experiences in life and audiobooks are a wonderful blessing to enjoy and comprehend a story. I think nowadays series are more common because it's a way to milk money. As a filmmaker/storyteller, I believe a story should be as long as it needs to be. If it takes 3 books or 14 books (wheel of time). If it takes 1 season of television or 6 seasons. All that matters is the story flows and breathes. Nothing is forced. Characters and the story develop organically. The moment things feel dragged on for the sake of it OR if things are cut short for the sake of it, then that is when it is easier to lose interest and trust in the author.
Excellent points here. I agree that listening and reading are different, and that they are different experiences. But I do feel as though they achieve the same thing, allowing the person to understand the story that was be told. I think really that debate comes down to personal ideals and semantics. I completely agree with what you are saying about series. If a story needs it, by all means, put it out there. Just don't rip off a bunch of extras just because the potential for money is there. Make it make sense and have purpose. 🤷♂️
Thanks for sharing, I'll check out those booktubers. I watch Tristan and the Classics, abookolive, Olives's Book Nook, and Books are Sick
You're welcome. And thanks for sharing your faves as well. We also, love Books are Sick. 😁❤️❤️
Wow, thank you so much! What an absolute delight to be included on this list, and you’re making me blush with all those kind words. Also just pleased to be tagged so that I can discover your channel. Love this conversational set up and HELLO to high production values. I need to know your picture quality, sound quality and lighting secrets!
You are so welcome. It's been a our delight to have discovered your channel and we truly enjoy the may you present yourself and the way you talk about books and book stuff. I have to thank my wife for the the high production value. She has been doing TH-cam videos on her Knitting channel @woolneedleshands for around three years now, and has found what works best. We like to use natural lighting but have begun incorporate an artificial stand light you see photographers use. We are still trying to figure out the best audio setup and have been playing with different things to find out what works best for us.
What!? Just woke up to this surprise! Thank you for this shout out! You two are so sweet shedding light on other channels! I’m honored my channel resonated with you. I just subbed to you! You two are amazing! I have to ask each of you: what is your favorite book and why? PS- love that you’re wanting to dive into D&D. It’s perfect for children. It encourages imagination, problem solving, and so much more.
Oh and trust me, my wife is pushing me to get back on the Witcher wagon for the DLCs 😂
Branden here, Thanks for the sub. My favorite book, is actually one I read for the first time recently, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. The reason it has become my favorite is because of my love of sci fi (huge Star Wars fan here). This hits the mark with sci fi, but also adds the realism of our world with a deep emotional story. If you haven't read it, I cannot recommend it enough.
They are sooo good. 😁
@@GoodBooksLately love to hear it! I too am a big starwars fan. Speaking of that, a book series that popped on my radar: The Sun Eater series by Christopher Ruocchio. Space opra. Star Wars. Dune. This series deserves a better comparisons than that because it stands on its own two feet. And the final book releases this year. Just a suggestion if you like Star Wars! I’ll give Project Hail Mary a look!
It’s truly our pleasure Thomas. We’ve really enjoyed your channel since we discovered it a few weeks ago so thank you for that. And the D&D video was great to watch with our boys. In fact we are hosting a bit of a starter D&D experience for Aengus’s 10th birthday coming up with the Adventure Begins D&D game. It’s like D&D lite and perfect for getting younger players used to the storytelling and dice rolling mechanics. I can’t wait. As for us, we look forward to getting our friends into D&D-proper as well. As for our favorite books; I (Tayler) am not sure if I’ve found my favorite yet. It’s so hard to pin down just one. However my love for historical fiction (current favorite genre) started with an early book by James Patterson called The Jester. Ok now, Thomas-I know you just finished your first play through of Witcher 3 (my favorite game OAT) and that’s great, but you NEED TO…nay…you MUST play the DLCs Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine (preferably in that order). It will round out your experience and take Witcher 3 from what it is in your mind now to something so much more memorable and impactful (I know. Like that’s even possible). Trust me. ⚔️
I really enjoy WhatVictoriaRead. She’s another UK booktuber, her channel is a charity channel (her Adsense goes to charity). She is a secondary school English teacher (11-16yrs) and reads widely. She does a monthly “wrap up” video where she reviews the books she has read and also inserts b-roll of her life outside of school and reading. It’s chill and cosy. It’s not one for people who are a stickler for a professional set-up, but a good one if you like someone chatting about books they have read in a casual way
Really neat! We'll have to check it out. Thanks for sharing.😁❤️
Loved this episode! I found some new channels to follow and can’t wait to check out some of their videos! 📚
Yay! So happy to hear that.
@ can never have too many booktube videos to watch while I’m knitting and doing other things! 📚 👍

DnD is amazing but it can also be a bit complex for young kids. You might consider a gateway game, such as Hero Quest. Great shout outs!
Awesome tip! We picked up the DND Adventure Begins game to get the boys used to the game.
