Tayler, if you love the dark academia vibe (which based on tbe books you've read this year I'm pretty confident in saying you so) I'd HIGHLY recommend The Academy for Liars by Alexis Henderson. It's my second book of 2025 and I'm 62% through it. I'm hoping to finish it today. It's so hard to put down!! As far as my favorite book of 2024, id probably have to say Fourth Wing/Iron Flame! Dragons, magic school setting, what more could i want? Book 3 comes out this month and Im super excited!
I was thinking I could listen to 10 books from each of you and then you say its on the patreon. Will be checking that out as soon as I have walked Arthur.
Great list! Neverwhere is one of my all-time favs ... and The Wolf Den and The Tainted Cup are both high on my list for 2025 lol. (and thank you, Branden! I just ordered the illustrated Neverwhere for a Christmas gift!)
I read/listened Rebecca this year too! What edition did you buy with such a beautiful cover?! Project Hail Mary was my favorite book as an audio, added so much to the experience.
That's great. I bought Tayler the Folio Society edition for an anniversary gift. I want to listen to project Hail Mary now as well. I keep hearing the audiobook is awesome.
"A manufactured twist" -- that's how I felt about Riley Sagar's "The House Across the Lake." .... my top read of the year was probably the Blackwater Series by Michael McDowell (the writer of Beetlejuice). My friend lended me a volume of the first 3 books in the series a while ago and i finally picked it up and ended up reading all 6 books in the series this year. I enjoyed your top 10.. and, as usual, a few have been added to my good reads 'want to read' list
It was tough to choose my favorite book of this year but I finally settled on The Echo Of Old Books by Barbara Davis! It’s about a rare book dealer who can feel the energy in used books( previous owners) and what happens with a series of books she finds! I’ve kept it in my library as I will read it again 😄 Right now, I’m enjoying the Timbercreek K-9 Mysteries. Takes place in Colorado ( my home) and the author did quite a bit of research to be accurate with the veterinarian’s work and how to work with a police dog! ❤️🐾📚😄
Thanks for the post - I just placed a hold for Echo from my local library. I’ve had a hard time lately finding books that aren’t typical romance novels, thriller/suspense, or sci-fi. This one looks really good!
I am currently reading The Hidden Palace, the sequel to The Golem and the Jinni (which I read years ago and loved). I've got The Wolf Den on my TBR next year and Neverwhere on my TBR for next year. Some of my favorites this year were The Warms Hands of Ghosts, A Sorceress Comes to Call, and The Smell of Other People's Houses.
I really like the Saints of Steels series, and you are right, it is self published! T. Kingfisher mentions it in the thanks of the second book that Tor was supportive of her doing it self published while she was doing books for them also.
Ok! Had the same reaction the the Shining . Read for the first time this year. Then I read Dr sleep . Also good! ( The sequel it's Danny's story ) And then hunted down the mini series from 1997 which follows the book story and is way off from the Kubrick movie it's worth watching !
I will definitely be looking up some of your faves! Thank you! Oh gosh, my favorite books of 2024……… Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins Valdez, James by Perceval Everett, The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride, We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson, The Stand by Stephen King The book I didn’t like all that much was Ozark Dogs by Eli Cranor, I felt like the ending was confusing.
Ok, love your small one hiding behind the lamp shade; perfect! Top 5 of the year: If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio (BRAVO) so good; Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman so good, like Lewis Carroll but better; The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon; Slewfoot by Brom; and Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir which reminded me so much of my father who was a design engineer for NASA's deep space program, my dad is no long with us.
I just finished Never Lie today. My daughter loved it because she can usually figure out a mystery in the first chapter and this one she didn't see coming. So she said you HAVE to read it. I had two thoughts. 1. I felt like she just wrapped it all up whether it made sense or not. If there is a character that didn't have a purpose...goodbye! 2. This is messed up! lol A quick read but definitely not at the top of my list either.
My favourite non-fiction read of the year: Fire Weather by John Vaillant! The story of the Fort McMurray fire but also of climate and policy and the state of wildland fire-fighting today. Vaillant didn’t pull any punches!
Honestly the best book I read last year was Sociopath by Patric Gagne. Highly recommend the audiobook bc she narrates it but it was just a great memoir that felt very visceral and not just chronologically telling their life story. Ppl have their opinions about Gagne calling herself a sociopath so I'm not here to debate that, but I just want her to write more stuff bc I think she'd be a great fiction writer!
Join us while we share our top ten (five each) books of 2024!
I love how your whole family contributes to these book videos!
😂😂😂 Thank you!
The golem and the jinni is soo good! The audio book is beautifully done.
Love to hear when audio books do a good job. Sometimes a bad audio book reader can ruin a good book experience.
Slewfoot was one of my top five this year and I think I had more 5's this year than any other.
Oh that's awesome! I know Tayler loved Slewfoot as well. ❤️

I'll make sure Tayler sees this. Sounds great.
I may think about trying Fourth Wing, to see how I like it.

Oh, great!
I picked up Hail Mary impulsively at our local library about a month ago and love it too!!! It pulled me in from the first page. What a great book.
Yes! Love that!
Happy to find this channel😊. What is the story behind your sweatshirt?
Tayler's sweatshirt shows a scene from "Newsies". We recently got our boys watching it and now we listen and watch it all the time.
@ love it 🥰
Great list! Neverwhere is one of my all-time favs ... and The Wolf Den and The Tainted Cup are both high on my list for 2025 lol. (and thank you, Branden! I just ordered the illustrated Neverwhere for a Christmas gift!)
You're welcome! It is so good. 😁❤️
I couldn't agree with you more regarding God of the Woods. By far my favorite book of the year. The ending is so nicely wrapped up.
💯 Happy to hear you agree! 😁
My favorites of your picks - Rebecca and River of Doubt love both. Slewfoot - I will have to read - enjoyed you two as usual, Thanks!!
Thank you! It's fun for us to share with people. You'll enjoy Slewfoot. ❤️

Project Hail Mary is truly an all-time favorite. I’ve read it 2 times and will probably be an almost annual re-read. ❤
Yes, I totally agree! ❤️❤️💯💯

Yes, that's right. We felt similar when we read The House Across the Lake. Totally forgot about that one. The Blaclwater series sounds fun. 👍❤️❤️❤️

I want to read the Sorceress Comes to Call soon, had my eye on it for a bit.
Enjoyed The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. My next read is going to be The Wolf Den on your recommendation.
Yay! I want to read The Invisible Life sometime soon! 😁
I am really looking forward to The Will of the Many and I just got How to Become a Dark Lord and Die Trying which sounded fun.
That does sound fun! 👍❤️
I really like the Saints of Steels series, and you are right, it is self published! T. Kingfisher mentions it in the thanks of the second book that Tor was supportive of her doing it self published while she was doing books for them also.

Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins Valdez,
James by Perceval Everett,
The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride,
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson,
The Stand by Stephen King
The book I didn’t like all that much was Ozark Dogs by Eli Cranor, I felt like the ending was confusing.
That's a solid list. Two of those I (Branden) have read and really enjoyed as well. ❤️
Ok, love your small one hiding behind the lamp shade; perfect! Top 5 of the year: If We Were Villains by M.L. Wonderful list! I can totally see the how Project Hail Mary would make you remember your dad. Thank you for sharing.
I just finished Never Lie today. My daughter loved it because she can usually figure out a mystery in the first chapter and this one she didn't see coming. So she said you HAVE to read it. Yes. Exactly. Glad I'm not the only one. 😁
My favourite non-fiction read of the year: Fire Weather by John Vaillant! The story of the Fort McMurray fire but also of climate and policy and the state of wildland fire-fighting today. Vaillant didn’t pull any punches!
Oh, nice. I'll have to keep an eye out for that. Thank you for sharing. ❤️
My youngest son (16) and I absolutely loved Project Hail Mary. The Martian was also great.
I gotta read the martian
I was also not a fan of Nettle & Bone, but LOVED Paladin’s Grace.
Sometimes, an author can miss. 🤷♂️
I, too, love fantasy nonfiction. 😂🫡
😂😂😂 I think we are on to something.

Oh interesting. Hadn't heard of that before. Might have to check it out.
Did you say….in Saskatchewan order?!😂😂
😂😂😂 Yep.
Will of the Many and Project Hail Mary! 😘👌🏻
💯❤️
Project Hail Mary was the best!! I’m not a sci fi person but it was awesome. Totally the best.
💯 No doubt in my mind that most people would enjoy it.
