Glad you’re reading Joe Hill, if you pay attention there are some Easter eggs and crossovers with Mr. Mercedes, which I believe was written around the same time. And if I may make a suggestion check out Chuck Tingle and Grady Hendrix - I’ll be reading How to Sell a Haunted House next week.
I love spooky season recommendation lists! I've been watching so many, and I've heard the Last House on Needless Street is wild. I'm moving that to the top of my TBR. Thanks for another great video!
Great line up, you two! Here's my spooky quest: The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby (I so want to say, Babe like Moira Rose, LOL), The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, House of Leaves, and Ordinary Monsters. I LOVE spooky, spooky is my every season, season.
One of the best literature gothic horror novels was written in 1897. "Dracula" by Bram Stoker. Reads like a journal with letters, diaries of increasing encounters with Count Dracula and the lives he put in despair .
King and Hill great choices. Hubby and I listening to the Shining re read for me. Highly recommend. Also, heart shaped box i read over a decade ago, still creeps me out. Find a copy.
Spooky book season is the best! First off, thank you for explaining why it’s ‘Salem’s Lot. I’ve wondered that for the longest time. Also, I started Slewfoot for my first spooky read and I’m loving it so far!
For anyone wanting some spooky vibe without the nightmare vibe, the Vampire Knitting Club or Vampire Book Club is my pick. Light reading. Not fancy prose or Literary fiction. 😊
It seems hotly debated whether NOS4A2 is a Halloween or a Christmas read. I look forward to your review and possibly your opinion on the debate as it is currently on my TBR.
Shirley Jackson lived in my town (N. Bennington, VT) when she wrote some if her books. I cover The Lottery and We Have Always Lived in the Castle in my classes. I just bought The Haunting if Hill House. The movie from the 60s is one of my favorite scary movies!
Spooky books aren’t my thing, but I usually go back to Discovery of Witches for my re-read this time of year. It’s definitely an “autumn” book. And I’ll echo everyone else. You’ve become my favorite hang out every week 😊
The closest I came to what you read were Jay Kristoff's books (Empire of the Vampire). Next year I have Washington Irving. In the future, I'm interested in reading from King's son, Locke & Key (but I don't know what genre the series belongs to). As for what I'm reading this season, that thing is romance
All excellent picks!! Of course Stephen King is always top of any scary list. A book I love is Ghost Story by Peter Straub, who was a co-writer with King on The Talisman. Suspenseful and I plan to re-read Ghost Story this month and I almost never read books again! And love Joe Hill, maybe I was one who recommended earlier ha. Confession- I started reading last house on needless street (I also see it as needles😂) and gave up as I just couldn’t get into the flow. I can’t wait to hear what you think.
You two have quickly become my favorite booktubers! Tell Tayler that I am currently about 200 pages into Bringer of Dust and it is darker and more intense than Ordinary Monsters and I am loving every minute of it. Can't wait to hear her thoughts.
You guys! I just finished a REALLY good spooky book. It's an older book, so it may or may not have passed under your radar. I HIGHLY recommend 'Mystery Walk' by Robert McCammon. It reminds me of early Koontz or King, but definitely worth a read! Happy Halloween!
Two recommandations: Uzumaki, a japanese manga. Super flipping. Never thought snails were scary before reading that. The Troop from Nick Cutter, he took inspiration from Stephen King. Highly recommend!
Love this! Spooky Season is upon us. Yes to gothic, atmospheric and ghosts but no to horror - I'm a scaredy cat! I'll try to send some cooler weather over, it was 7°c here this morning. Enjoy all your reads.
My husband and I accidently watched the movie Poor Thing or whatever the name is. It was so weird but beautifully filmed. We kept asking each other what in the world were we watching. We watched the whole movie and weren't sure what we thought when it was over. I am glad to hear you talk about it and because of that I have fonder memories of it. Some of your book picks sound scary, good luck with them.I just finished a book I read because of you, CJ Sansoms Dark Fire. I like his books so much and glad you mentioned them. It takes me forever to read them and I don't know if it is because of the small print or that I am enthralled with them. Poor Cromwell just lost his head. Have fun being scared.
I don't celebrate spooky season, but I do enjoy thrillers on occasion. Right now, I'm listening to Tress of the Emerald Sea (one of your recommendations, thank you! ) and I'm reading aloud Three Bags Full (another recommendation, thank you! 😊) to a friend who has developed vision issues.
I Love Anne Rice and need to read more Stephen King. I am currently reading The Scarecrow by Michael Connelly that a coworker brought me and told me I had too. Next for spooky season I plan on reading Dracula and Frankenstein because this is my year of reading classics, sprinkled with a few other things. You guys have inspired me to read more! So I’ve went from barely reading to it’s an enjoyable goal for my everyday now :)
Oooo I love this whole reading plan! And so cool that you’re going to tackle some spooky classics. We’re also really glad to know that these videos have inspired you to read a bit everyday. It’s such a nice thing to look forward to. ❤️
@GoodBooksLately If you like spooky lighthouse movies, there's a movie called The Vanishing, which is based on a true mystery that became Scottish legend. Really good!
Good stuff! I’m rereading Bag of Bones by King for October. It’s a great ghost story; I highly recommend it. Horror is not my thing, but ghosts are good lol.
Ahhhhhhh, I had to run over to Amazon to see if I could get the Shirley Jackson book. Only $.99 on Kindle, SOLD! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I put The Last House on Needless Street on hold with Broward County but I think my 90 day free library card will be done by the time it’s available!
@@GoodBooksLatelyI read We Have Always Lived in the Castle yesterday/early this morning (hubby slowed me down, apparently he has to eat every so often 🙄🤪). This book! OMG! Charming and disturbing. I highly suggest you both read it so you can discuss it. You will want to discuss it! I couldn’t sleep last night from thinking about it. Perfect book for a rainy/stormy fall day. Shirley Jackson has that innate ability to make you ponder her writing. Super fast read. I remember reading her short story The Lottery in maybe middle school (in the 70’s at some point anyway) and it never left me. I need to find that and read it again! Enjoy!
I read The House of Needless Street in spooky season in 2022. I gave it 4 stars, spooky! Currently reading The Whispering Dead by Darcy Coates, loving it! Just finished Lost Man's Lane by Scott Carson for October book club, creepy premise but too wordy, didn't have to be 500 plus pages. The book would have been better if he had narrowed down his narative.
I dnf'd Babel at the end of chapter 5. 😢 Linguistics is my area of expertise. The linguistic stuff was fine. I got really sick of the modern American-centric rac!sm being pushed into British culture. The British had their problems in that area, but it was also very different from how the US experienced it. I hope to go back to the book. I needed a break from post-modern thinking for a bit. I picked Footfall by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. Excellent palette cleanser. 😅
If you enjoy fiction that reads like non-fiction Chasing the Boogeyman by Robert Chizmar fits that bill. The less you know going in the better it will be.
I read Interview with the Vampire about 25 year ago and I finished it but it was a slog and I haven't picked up another Anne Rice after it. I know a lot of people love her novels but she just wasn't for me.
Join us while we share the books we're looking forward to cracking into for spooky season! 👻
Oh. Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep a look out then. 😁❤️👍
I love spooky season recommendation lists! I've been watching so many, and I've heard the Last House on Needless Street is wild. I'm moving that to the top of my TBR. Thanks for another great video!
That’s what she said! lol. I have found my people.
😂😂😂 That cracked me up too! I love these two.
Yes! 😆
Yay! That sounds like a very solid spooky lineup. ❤️❤️❤️
Love that edition of “Salem’s Lot” 🤤!
Oh good. What's not to love about a mass market paperback? 😁
Loved your book chat! I am reading Frankenstein...never read it before. Starts off in a very surprising way, slowly building.
Frankenstein is one of the top classics for me. Then remember written by a teenage girl, amazing.
I'm also planning to read Salem's Lot. 👻👻 Love Tayler's shirt!
Ooo yay! We’ll be reading it together! And thank you. I couldn’t help myself when I saw this shirt at Savers. 😁
One of the best literature gothic horror novels was written in 1897. "Dracula" by Bram Stoker. Reads like a journal with letters, diaries of increasing encounters with Count Dracula and the lives he put in despair .
That is certainly on my list and just might make it into the Spooky Season lineup this year. 👍👍👍
They made NOS4A2 into a series about 5 years ago. Something to add to your watch list.
Yes! It looks pretty good and so creepy.
King and Hill great choices. Hubby and I listening to the Shining re read for me. Highly recommend. Also, heart shaped box i read over a decade ago, still creeps me out. Find a copy.

😮 Thats awesome.
@@GoodBooksLately Her children still live here.
I love you vids! Spooky season reads: The Woman in Black, The Heart Shaped Box, Weyward, Home Before Dark 💀🎃👻
That's a solid list. Thanks for the love. ❤️❤️❤️

And I’ll echo everyone else. You’ve become my favorite hang out every week 😊
Thank you Aimy! And I think I finally need to take the plunge into Discovery of Witches. ❤️❤️
@@GoodBooksLately I got drawn in pretty quick between the tv show and books a few years ago. Now it’s a comfort re-read 😀

I can totally get that and am glad I'm not the only one seeing needles. 😂😂😂
Just reading Henry James, an oldie but love your newer suggestions. - try to do some Poe at this time of the year.
That's awesome. 👍👍👍

Why thank you! It's an honor. She is chomping at the bit to read it.

I just downloaded The Troop as my next audiobook. 🔥🔥🔥

I will be interested to hear what you think of Poor Things. I don't read reviews on books.
She will gladly give her honest review. That's for sure.

I watched that lighthouse movie during a flight to Florida four years ago. I still think of that movie. Haunting and disturbing.
I want to watch it even more now. 👀
@GoodBooksLately If you like spooky lighthouse movies, there's a movie called The Vanishing, which is based on a true mystery that became Scottish legend. Really good!
We may have to start a watch a long. That sounds great.
Also, The Exorcist is the scariest book and movie out there!
May have to be a late addition to spooky season. 🤔🤷🏻♂️
I read The Last House on Needless Street! Fabulous! 5 stars!
Oh yay!! So looking forward to it. ❤️
Good stuff! I’m rereading Bag of Bones by King for October. It’s a great ghost story; I highly recommend it. Horror is not my thing, but ghosts are good lol.
Hope you are enjoying it. Not sure if horror is for Tayler either, but we shall find out.

The Ruins. If looking for a creature feature book ever.
