What a fun episode! I was really expecting more of “the book is better” because that’s usually my line 😂 Jollabokaflod (according to my family in Iceland) has been a bit glamorized. Yes, they give lots of books on Christmas Eve because that’s when most publishers release books in Iceland but also that’s when Icelanders celebrate Christmas. I was little excited when I found out about jollabokaflod (literally means “book flood” and you pretty much nailed the pronunciation the first go round!) and pretty bummed when I asked my family about it and they explained it. Either way, we totally celebrate this in our house now because it just sounds amazing to sit and eat chocolate and candy and read! We also celebrate the Yule Lads, another Icelandic tradition that you should definitely look up! (Not gonna lie, felt a little cheated when I found out about some of these things and my Icelandic grandmother didn’t tell us about these traditions.)

Good things are often over glamorized. 😁 And yes, we were both surprised that she nailed it. 😁

Love this episode. I can’t read a book after watching the movie, kind of putting too much time into something when I already know what happens. I love reading a book then watching the movie and being able to go through what I think is done well what was left out etc. I do most of the time like the book better however I do most of the time thoroughly enjoy the movies too.

Branden, I loved Interview With A Vampire because of the whole atmospheric nature of it. Louis is a victim of his own regrets and does come off as such. What I found so intriguing was Rice’s craft of writing and the narrative voices of the characters. There is a complete switch of narrative voice in The Vampire Lestat. Where Louis is mired in the past, Lestat comes off as a man of the 20th century with a rock star type of persona. And he totally tells Louis to quit whining! The two novels are akin to a complaint and rebuttal. Even if you don’t want to read another whole Rice novel, I’d encourage you to read the first 50 pages or so of the Vampire Lestat.
    Love your and Taylor’s channel(s)!

The Sex and the City actor is John Corbett. There have been a few movies filmed near our farm in south eastern Saskatchewan Canada and he was in one of them…..The Messengers.
Generally I find the books way better than the movies I think because how the readers imagination plays into it. I’m almost always disappointed in movies based on Stephen King books. I always think they don’t have a big enough budget and they come off as cheap and hokey…..one exception would be Misery.

Please keep going with Harry Potter, Tayler! The story just gets so much better and darker. Book 6 (Half-Blood Prince) is my absolute favourite in the series. OK. I have comments/opinions. Like you, by and large I will say the book is better than the movie/other screen adaptation. I'll start with Gone with the Wind, which I'd only ever seen as a movie and liked very much. Imagine my surprise when I read the book and found quite a few differences from the movie! I did like the book also. The Time Traveller's Wife. Loved the movie, read the book and there were some differences! My Sister's Keeper--both gut-wrenching sad, but they had different endings! WIth the Harry Potter books, since I read them first, I LOVED them and I had to divorce my feelings for the movie, or I'd spend the whole movie picking it apart and judging what they left out. Come on, Peeves was comic gold! Thanks for this post--loved it!

I love this episode! I just got done early this morning (last night/this morning) with Stephen King’s The Stand and I have to say that I prefer the book to the mini series. It’s been awhile since watching it but not too long that it kept me from reading the story with Molly Ringwald’s voice as Fran, Gary Sinise’s as Stu and Laura San Giacomo’s as Nadine! LOL. Enders Game by Orson Scott Card is one of my favorite books of all time but I am not a fan of the movie. I think they tried but it’s just not possible to put the damage that is done through years of training into a two hour movie, and because of that you lose some of the magnitude of what was done without Enders knowledge or consent. I am so glad to see you feature Memoirs of a Geisha, I agree the movie is fantastic. My husband hasn’t read the book but agreed to watch the movie with me and said he can see why it sparked my interest in the culture. Great video as usual you guys 😊

I agree that the Ender's Game movie didn't work very well but that there might not have been a way to do it well. Sometimes things are in the form that they are in for a reason. Maybe it could have worked as a mini-series, but a movie just wasn't enough time to develop the characters and their relationships.

"Chocolat" book is better than the movie, "The girl with the pearl earring" movie was better than the book (although the book is really good), "Tha painted veil" movie is better. Dan Browns books are much better

The modern Rebecca movie was too "woke" for me. It made the 1930's women modern and I found it jarring. It is worth a miss.
