How to Take Art Commissions (Part 3): Beginner's Guide 2024
My WORST moments working on art commissions taught me some pretty great lessons like:
1. Client communication is key!
2. Learn to speak your client's language
3. Check the source photo before you say yes
4. Use digital mockups instead of sketching it all out (I use Canva)
5. Spend the most time on what's most important to them
6. Set clear expectations for how much, when, and how you will be paid $$

Your videos are very good and your editing skills are excellent, but your videos are not reaching many people. The main reason for this is that your videos are not SEO optimized. I am a TH-cam video SEO expert and would like to optimize your videos. Are you interested in this?
I try my best! But no thank you :)
@@danicatheartist ok
Thanks!
Really great video! Lots of great tips. I needed to hear this. My last commission was a nightmare. I knew it was my fault because I didn't give the client clear guidelines on expectations.
I’m so Glad it was helpful! I’ve done a few commissions feeling so resentful and setting clear boundaries ahead of time is soooo worth the work.
do you think that's _good_ art, behind you?
Art is in the eye of the beholder! ;)
You are so pretty❤
Thanks!
Thank you! I bet everyone’s hands were super colorful and I bet everyone was so proud!
We definitely had a few wash buckets for the at many kids 😅
They are all amazing
Aww thanks so much!
beautiful paintings!!!!!❤️
Thank you so much 😀
I love this so much 💗
Thank you! I k ow there’s a lot of people who need to hear it
This is beautiful
Thank you so much!

Hi! Glad to find a fellow Christian artist! Love, Eva (and Emanuel)❤
Nice to meet you!!
Jesus♥️
You betcha! ;)
Jesus!! It’s Jesus! I win!! Ha!
Haha good job ;)
Amen ❤✝️
Thats right!! 🙌
thank you so much for this tutorial! I started my channel last summer and i’ve been wanting new tips. I plan to use these in the future ❤
I’m so glad it was helpful! I’ll look ya up!
I loved this art show, the worship night, and the Psalm 23 series.
Me too!!!!
Thank you for sharing. I will have to try this sometime.
You bet! It’s so super easy to do :)
This did indeed encourage me. I have 4 children 8 and under and it is a great challenge for me. I will put some of your tips in action starting today 😊
You got this momma!! Way to go looking for encouragement and I hope it does help in some small way! Let me know how it goes ;)
So good - thank you!
Glad you liked it!!
Only 200 likes is criminally underrated 🤯
haha thanks ;)
This is so beautiful!❤❤❤ and only 34 likes!?
Still learning how to tell a story through shorts. Thanks for the encouragement!
It’s genuinely criminal that you not have 500 followers.
Haha thanks 😅 I guess I’m still just learning TH-cam
Love how this pulls all the lessons together and gives us a way to comfort others with the comfort we received... Great gift ideas go with the cards :)
Thank you so much! Yes, we gotta pass it on - ESPECIALLY if we didn't get the support we would have liked to have received.
Another great project. Even though I knew it was coming, I cringed a bit with that first tear you made. I wanna make this for a ladies night... I love in your colored version how you swapped a piece out for some patterned paper.
Go for it! And let me know how it goes! Those tears are so rough but they make sure beauty and strength <3
What a symbolic project
Thanks!!
Once again you've nailed the discussion/teaching part! I find it interesting how you talked through your "noticing" process. Also, I love how the grief side became part of you in the hair. It brings a balance to your profile (like in the color wheel exercise) . Also, interesting that this side has hair and the other doesn't because it caused me to envision you and your dad looking at each other, maybe having a conversation. This is a great project, thank you for sharing it.
Ooh I love that interpretation! Yes, it's so important to bring fresh curiosity to old familiar emotions. Art helps us do that just like speaking to an old friend.
Love your intro with color sample prompts! Do you feel like this square...what about all these other ones. The visual is powerful.
Yes! Thank you! Now you can talk in color too ;)
Terrific discussion about the differences between healthy grief (memorializing) and getting stuck in it (idolizing). side note...."goo gone" is awesome for getting sticker off surfaces ;)
I’m so glad it was helpful! I’ve needed that discussion myself. And hey that’s a good recommendation. 😅
Love how you described winter "everything is spoken in whispers" and that your friend zoomed in on the dirt commenting that the "beauty is in the hidden places."
Right?!
Those dark seasons get a bad wrap but they’re integral to the life of that plant.
Oh wow, that's so awesome how Motoi involves his audience in the process and gives them an opportunity to engage in grief and release... Very nice process you shared here :)
Thanks so much! His work is very inspiring to me.
I really liked how you summarized Frida's pain, art and life, and your struggles with Bible teachings. God is so good at revealing more as we go deeper with Him and facing the hard, painful things in life.
Right?! I feel like When Bible/faith is used as a bandaid it’s usually out of fear that people will abandon their commitment.
But really if we allow ourselves and others time to process and press into the pain, they can feel free to bring it to God in their own time. He can handle it!
You’re so honest in your processing and I think its a great example for others…this is how we all get better at being vulnerable and safe and better at supporting each other through the dark days instead of all wearing masks for safety. It’s ok to wrestle with it all…beliefs, identity, etc. YES! wonderful job in processing the layers of your painting and how you released the grief in the art. Bravo! (I love that painting of the 2 girls-colorful paint drips and arms raised up) (oh and that painting of the girl in the eyeball)
Thanks so much for the encouragement! I’ve found that my vulnerability allows space for others too. It’s a cool cycle of healing and it’s an honor to be a part of it:)
Great parallel to life and grief! It’s so fun to have the tiny pieces…not only are you starting but also quickly finishing which builds the confidence and courage to try something new :) (What a cute cat tape dispenser) I wanna go create right now!
Woohoo!! (To the cat tape dispenser haha) but yes it’s so much more manageable to start small. I’m so glad it makes you wanna start!!!
Confidence is key 😂❤
That’s right!
That actually so cool
Thanks! And thanks for watching :)
Incredible art and accompanying words!
Thanks so much! I know that spurgeon quote inspired me so much I’m glad to be able to put an image to it and inspire others.
This is so beautiful!❤🤩
Thanks so much!! I’m excited to see it done ✨
Cool!
Thanks! 🥰
Wow, that was incredibly powerful; Danica I would love to hear you analyze more of your pieces ♥️♥️🫂
Thank you for saying that! Will do! ;)
Hi Danica great video! I’m looking for a tripod and just can’t decide on one. Anyways you gave me lots of things to think about. I’m also a small art and faith channel. Very encouraging to see what you are doing ❤
Hey nice to meet you! I’ll give you a follow. Yeah I actually had a small standing tripod but didn’t end up using it because that overhead arm could do both views. Just food for thought 🤷♀️
@@danicatheartist thank you! I know I’m going to learn a lot from your channel🙏🏻
I can relate to this ❤ Amen 🙏➕️ GOD bless

@danicatheartist Yes he is ❤️➕️🙏
Thank you for this tutorial ❤
You're welcome 😊 I hope it was helpful!!
Good job! Much luck to you and your channel. 😊 You popped up in my feed just now---it seems I've watched a few of your grief videos a few months ago when I needed them.
Oh my goodness I’m so glad they came at the right time! I love creating videos but those grief art ones are what started it all!
❤thank you for sharing your process. I live your style. What a great model you used❤
You are so welcome! And he’s pretty cute huh? ;)
beautiful painting
Thank you so much 😀
This is AMAZING! True talent, NEVER stop!!
It’s fun!
No comments? Sick painting tho!
Thanks so much!
Great video! Thanks! It was kinda hard to read the txt though
Sorry about that! I plan to make it more clear to read in future videos. Thanks for watching!
This is so great! I love how you make it easy and how it's such a beautiful representation of a sentimental thing. Well Done! I'm gonna keep this in my grief toolkit.
Im so glad to hear it!! I’m obsessed making these every year and wanted to add a sentimental touch for my grief art community 💕 let me know how it goes!
