Please mention something about watching movies on this thing. Netflix, blurays etc. Aspect ratio issues? colour? I currently use a 32" Samsung Tv as my screen thats 1080p. I've been itching to get a new screen for some years now only I just don't know if the colours will be anywhere near as good as my current screen.
      Thanks!

@@maniac3173here are definitely some issues when watching movies/tv shows on this monitor. From what I read it’s a mix of the ghosting problems in relation to the way VA panels work. Add the fact that 21:9 is not a common aspect ratio in the film industry, so usually you’ll get a 1080p image that is in a sense stretched to fit the monitor’s aspect ratio. If I recall correctly for every one pixel in 1080p its the equivalent to 4 pixels in 2k. So images in movies/tv shows can look sub par and pixelated. Animated stuff looks create but live action can be rough at times.
Thankfully more and more movies/tv shows are being providing with greater viewing formats allowing for increased compatibility. There is also a 21:9 extension for browsers to better fit video content on screen.
Also I found some browsers have a hard time with 2k movies/tv shows, confirmed with several forums on Reddit. Chrome was bad but surprisingly Edge worked great. Overall the best option was using the dedicated apps for streaming services directly. I will add TH-cam has no issues in watching content. Only problem it had was with the new gradient feature YT added last Fall. Personally didn’t like it anyways so just turned it off. The gradient was super pixelated/choppy.
I’ve had this Dell monitor since May 2022 and did a lot of digging to understand the flaws of this monitor. I even talked to Dell support and had them ship me a replacement so I could double check I wasn’t going crazy lol. Both monitors expressed identical issues. I ended up keeping the original I purchased and sent back the replacement.
Overall I love the monitor for gaming, doing work and watching content. The flaws made me upset at first but after learning a ton on what was the cause and that the monitor performed as it was designed to do, put me at ease. It taught me to do more research on products, especially when it comes to technology before buying. Like the saying goes, “measure twice cut once.” Granted the reality of this world, shows us flaws and missed details will always occur but things can be done to minimize them. Hope this helps!

@@WilliamChoochootrain for my tastes, is dificult now i have an oled tv & an LG 27GP850-B it's a 27"/1440p/180hz/ nano ips
The problem that i have with the nano ips is the contrast ratio, i'm a lot in dark room and having so bad contrast (750/1...) is really not good, if i look to my tv it's just awfull to see that on a "top tier 27" gaming monitor"...
So i look to 21/9 for more immersion but with VA or oled, and alienware with oled is really pricey, i paid my oled tv for less than a pc monitor and the tv is in 4k/120 with G-sync ultimate... but i don't play pc in my living room haha
So i think a good VA is the better choice, i really don't like smearing and ghosting but... i don't really have a lot of choice, only oled is the best but really too pricey for such a little screen :x

Great review. In fact this review made up my mind to buy this monitor. I’ve been agonizing for over a week about which widescreen monitor to get to replace my old Dell 2715 which still works perfectly but isn’t the best for all the spreadsheet and PowerPoint work I’m doing from home.
I also needed a monitor suitable for the modest amount of gaming I do.

      @seanocarroll1966 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ChadStovern Hey Chad, I must admit it took me about a week to get used to the new monitor. The color reproduction was quite different to my old 2715 and that difference is obviously most apparent when you first switch to a new monitor. After about a week I pretty much forgot what the old 2715 looked like and my brain fully accepted the new monitor colors as normal. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t look bad, it’s just different. I did take some time to tweak the settings of the new monitor to get it looking more like the old 2715. The benefits I get from the widescreen format far outweigh any color differences there are. I’m not a photographer or graphic artist so strict color accuracy is not critical to me or my work. The screen real estate is proving incredibly useful. I’m very happy with the monitor.

In the UK as a student, you can get 40% off Dell monitors straight from Dell through Unidays, which is about £100 off. Then, if you verify your student email address with Dell, you can get a further 15% off. I got about £160 off this monitor as the coupon code works with the student discount. Can't wait for it to arrive!

I got mine on a vesa wall mount since the day I pulled it from the box and it's great. Just due to the recess in the back of the monitor your mounting plate needs to be 100x100. if its oversized then you'll have some issues.

Hello Type-C Tech!! Greetings from Brazil! Thanks for your awesome reviews! I really appreciate your job!! Guys, I have a question: here in Brazil we do not have so many different monitors, some nice monitors do not come to Brazil. I am looking for a QHD gaming monitor, and the prices of Dell S3422DWG and Alienware AW2724DM are very similar, but the black smearing and ghosting of VA panel worry me as well as the local dimming and black looking gray in the Alienware IPS panel. So, what would you recommend to me knowing that I am a casual gamer and I use the computer for gaming 80% of time, but I also use the monitor for home studying and media consumption? Thank your attention guys and sorry for any Ensligh mistakes :D

Are the games playable without flickering issues, if you currently have an older GPU? Under the 60fps there are known flickering issues. Or is this only if you use G-sync / Freesync? Have an GTX1060 6GB. With these GPU prices i want to keep it for a while until sometimes de prices drop.

Bought this from Dell in Australia and its awesome. Got it for 569 AUD where 330 was off the RRP.
Works great for Work, Gaming and Movies.
I went from a 40 Inch Sony bravia (TV! as a monitor) to this which is a huge upgrade. 144mhz + 1440 gaming - there went my frame rates. Now I need a better GPU!
    Not going back.

@@k-c yeah. One note is I had to upgrade to a 3070 to get a good gaming experience. Due to the 1440 aspect, this is not a 1080 monitor and trying to use it at 1080 just seems distorted so you have to play every game at 1440.

I really appreciate you doing an in-depth review for this impressive monitor. I've been watching it for months as reviews come out. I'm uncertain because the S2721DGF is on a deep sale. I currently own the S2417DG, and one of the biggest downsides is that movies and shows are almost unwatchable due to the contrast and color banding in dark scenes. I definitely want at least 1440p/144hz and G-Sync. S2721DGF has 1.07 billion colors, S3422DWG has 16.7 million.
I'm trying to stay under $500 and I'm torn between the S2721DGF and this beauty. I can probably sell my S2417DG for a decent amount to offset costs, but it's a tough decision. I'm split evenly between gaming (AAA titles like RDR2, Dark Souls, AC games), productivity (Excel, Word, having many windows open), and streaming shows + movies.
    It's a hard decision and I can't choose.

    • @TypeCTechReviews

Personally I would go for this over the S2721DGF if you can push the frames with the added resolution!

I have the 2721dgf and it's an incredible monitor. I got it on sale a while ago for $329. Too good of a deal to pass up.
However....I miss my ultra wide monitor. I'm thinking about picking this up now.
Just depends how much you want an ultra wide.
I will say that 16:9 27 inch 1440p is the sweet spot for clarity and frame rate. The PPI on the 2721 is great and the IPS panel produces crystal clear images.
      Good luck!

I'm currently only using a 16 inch XP-Pen drawing display as my screen because it was the only thing thin enough for me to bring to another country (it's thinner than my phone). It has great colors (being made for digital artists so of course it has a very good IPS screen), but it's not very good for gaming since it's so small and only 60hz (it's not meant for gaming anyway).
I think I'll get this so that I can have a much better gaming experience as well as *a lot* more reference images open when I'm drawing.

Just got this. Has 2 dead pixels so i'm going through the replacement process with Dell now but other than that, this thing is fantastic. Coming from a LG 32 inch 1440p VA panel, the reduction in ghosting is massive. It's much more bright and HDR looks great too. You really can't go wrong with this display especially considering it's now $399 price tag. I used to have an alienware 34" IPS ultrawide and i actually enjoy this more
