Would you wander into a random shop in a foreign country, hand over all your credit cards, and say ‘Make me a Gaming PC’? Linus did! He visited Guang Ha Digital Plaza, handed over $5000, and said ‘yes’ to everything.

I can do one better. I just bought a PC for $10! Actually, under $10. And, I'm *literally* setting it up right now ... in mid-comment, even as I type this message! Check the battery connection, fine. Disk drive, OS: none - as ordered (got my own). Disk drive, OS - installed. Power supply: none - as ordered (got my own) - connected. Power up. Run a pre-boot system assessment. Battery: not functional (but wasn't asking for one, either, got my own). OS starts up, log-in: fine. Set the clocks. Log-out: fine. Power down. Connect the new battery. Power up: It works. Log in: it works. Log out: it works. Done. I got a new system ... and without the bother of pre-installed OS's like Windows or sweetheart tie-in deals with them. Finally. I've been looking for this for several years now.

18:55 legit Windows 11, but not only that. It's the Pro version instead of Home version. There really isn't a difference for most users, but it's definitely an extra plus. As a Taiwanese PC builder, I feel so proud.
There is a difference for all users when it comes to keeping your data safe. Only the pro version uses bitlocker
@@earlem9771 Yes! That truly is something Home doesn't have and Pro does. but genuinely, I don't recommend all users to turn it on. The data are so safe with it that even the owner him/herself will not be able to access the data😔. "Cherish your data, and stay away from BitLocker" has become a common saying in the Chinese PC community.
Nowadays, a lot of laptops come with bitlocker activated on default. I've already seen thousands of people lost all their data while upgrading their SSDs.

Linus, that is the exact same shopping experience that you can find in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, right on the triple border between Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. I think that even the shopping centers are exactly the same and the security is probably the same. In Ciudad del Este you can leave your purchases in a taxi driver's vehicle and he will take care of them for you all day only to then take you to the airport or the bus terminal. You should try to buy in Paraguay. You would be surprised. Greetings from Asuncion Paraguay
WOW. You could not have picked a better shop to build the PC, and a better person to give it away to. The shop owner was so sincere, such passion into his work. And the kid was absolutely stunned, he was truly lost for words and so grateful! I LOVED this video
LOL, he is my friend and former colleague, we're all doing watecooling and mooding stuff. I asked him and was shocked that he didn't know you! They are like Bykski distributors, which is why they have stock. Additionally, he has excellent skills specifically in water-cooling hard tube bending. He probably left the protective film on intentionally so that you could enjoy peeling it off yourself🤣
Edit:
I'll make a video to interview him so that everyone can get to know him better! I also encouraged him to start a new channel and I'm very willing to assist him along the way🎉

Lots of computer accessories are made in Taiwan. We were born with it. In Taiwan constructing computer is never difficult. I DIYed more than 5 PC when I was in Uni. Of course now days gaming PC is more complicated. Linus visited the most famous Tech/Digital mall in Taiwan with long history. Seller there are full of experience and skilled. Honestly they don't have to watch Linus's channel to learn. The mall already has a strong ecosystem.
Thought it was made in China
As always tagged on the boxes
@@kennethverana5885This mall has a long history of about 40 years , way before China made any computer parts.
@@kennethverana5885 It depends. Taiwan manufactures a lot of high end chips. TSMC, the largest foundry in the world, is based there and makes chips for AMD, NVIDIA, Apple, most phone manufacturers, etc. Lower end chips (controllers for example) might come from elsewhere though.
Once that is done however, final board assembly (putting the chips on boards and soldering everything) or device assembly might be done elsewhere (like mainland China). For example, Apple's A16 chip is made by TSMC in Taiwan (most likely since they have a few fabs in other countries, including China) but the iPhone is assembled in mainland China and India.
Additionally, a number of significant tech companies are also Taiwanese. These include ASUS, Acer, MSI, ASRock, G.Skill, Gigabyte, Lian Li, etc. for consumer oriented companies or Microtek, Realtek and TSMC for the chip designers and manufacturers.
I am 62. My first personal computer was a knock off Apple II that I bought from the old Guang Hua marketplace around 1983. The fallowing decade saw proliferation of knock off IBM PCs, all illegal as hell. That just goes to show you how long Taiwan has been in the PC built game.
牛逼的咧!
Linus, Actually Mr & Mrs Sebastian, thank you for making that kids year. Respect to you both.
Him not peeling the plastic off is not a flaw in Taiwan. They leave that stuff on EVERYTHING for years and years if they can help it. I’d drive my friends nuts in Taiwan when I’d take the protective plastic off things in front of them.

Yes, because every English speaker in the world who works with technology watches this one Canadian Tech review channel. LTT is widely known, but he isn't movie star recognizable. I would be willing to bet that if you showed his picture to 10 random employees at Intel, Best Buy, Nvdia, Microcenter and NASA you would get less than a 50% recognition at each.
You and your circle of associates watch so it feels like everyone does but he isn't THAT popular. a few million views per video out of 1-2 billion english speakers is nothing.
brings me back to a time when I used to work at a place like that part-time as a student to fuel my hobby of PC building & gaming with the best system, that was more than 15yrs ago now! thanks for this awesome vid!
Can't believe Linus is in Taipei. Around 10 years ago I started watching Linus and built my first PC using the parts I bought in that store. (Not the exact one)
It's actually one of the locations for a chain of stores they have locations all around Guanghua and has the most competitive pricing for PC parts in Taiwan (At least to regular consumers). They have consultants that work with you to pick out parts based on your budget and if you don't wanna build it yourself they can do it for you as well.

I really liked this video - I don't want any of the staff at LTT to lose their jobs or anything - but I think I speak for a lot of longtime viewers when I say this is the type of content we really want. Not necessarily getting rid of comprehensive reviews etc., but I personally find the leaner less produced content and more candid real-world content much more comfortable and easy to watch as well as much more entertaining.

Its hard to make this stuff without all the clout they gained from their review content though. This was by far my favorite linus video ever, but it's hard for me to not be biased as a taiwanese person

That builder deserves more recognition. That PC was incredible. Also, that kid that won the PC had the perfect reaction. Good for him.
Even though there was the RAM issue, any normal somewhat savvy customer would have asked for a certain amount of RAM installed and very likely insisted it ran at the rated speed. And 32 GB is plenty for a gaming rig.
didnt even know ddr5 would default to 3600mhz. 4800 only.
I, too, kind wish Linus had gone back and been like “hey here’s who I really am, and you killed it. Congratulations and thanks”
@@NathanExplosion99 I agree with your statement, however I'd like to add my 2 cents. $5k is overkill for a gaming PC and enters into production/content creation. I feel like the 64gb of RAM is justified in this setup. But this is all hypothetical

Great video! Loved the ending.
This is one of the best LTT videos I've watched in a while. Please do more of these, like going to a local shop somewhere, supporting a small business, and giving the finished product away to someone. The only thing I'd change would be to interview the person who builds the tech at the end of the video, and reveal everything them at the end. I think that would not only make them very happy, but it would also show us the passions of the people that run these shops. Very good video, thank you!
If he did too many it would lost its magic, but every so often this would be great.
Interviewing the builder would mean that they mention who he is, and the name of the store... and then LTT would be kinda responsible for whatever they do with the new clients they get. It's almost like a "sponsored recomendation" but without the sponsor part, so it's not worth the risk.
A downside of that is if they ripped him off and he interviewed them then the shop would be ashamed, might be bad or good but I think it's bad
yeah that was really, really cool. It felt like I was watching LTT from 4 years ago!
Problem is everyone who ever watched computer videos on YT at least have seen his face on the video thumbs.

I was born in Taiwan and have been to Guanghua Mall many times.
Taiwan is a tech country, so lots of people, especially the younger generation, have pretty decent knowledge in computers.
Besides, Guangha Mall is like one of the biggest tech mall in Taiwan, the competition there is crazy, people would literally argue with you and leave you bad feedback if the part is $100NTD ($3-4USD) more expensive than another shop. So you can hardly get ripped off there.
And judging from the shop owner's reaction, it's very unlikely that he knows this channel. There are already tons of tech channels from Taiwan and China, and those are the channels the tech enthusiasts in Taiwan would usually go to first.
About sending Line message at midnight - it's just how people are like in Taiwan. People in cities usually stay up pretty late because there are still lots of things you can do/place you can go in midnight. The shop owner might finished the work at 9pm, had a dinner with his gf at a restaurant, went to a night market, came back home and took a shower, then dropped you a message before go to sleep. If you want you can reply right away, or you can just leave the message unread and reply the next day. We wouldn't really consider dropping a Line message at 2am is rude, unless it's a phone call.
Every time I learn a little more about Taiwan and their people, my heart is warmed. I've only ever had positive interactions with Taiwanese people.
The messaging part is true. I am from a South East Asian country.
To us, messaging you at night is to keep you updated and we do not think we are being rude. Generally people just mute or shut off their phones in the evening.
We rather we keep you updated and when you wake up and read the message, you know we have been keeping up with your request.
I think PC/Tech stuff that's especially true. Lots of people have global "online friends" they chat with anyways, and probably figure you know how to turn off notifications if you don't want to be messaged!
Thanks for the info
Who does not put his phone in "Do not disturb" during the night if he is sleeping? No problem at all messaging at any time of the night, I will just answer the next day.
Honestly, no one was more deserving of that PC than that young man on the street corner. He was genuinely grateful just to MEET Linus, so the absolute shock and awe when he was told the PC was his…what a great man!
That's some real Mr Beast shit right there.
So lucky
For real! Linus "It's your lucky day" and him being like "Yes it's very lucky for me to get to meet you".
The kid is only a 8th grader, if a 14 yr-old student can recognize Linus, he deserves the pc.
I love the last part. Surprisingly one of the most wholesome video I've watched this month.
*Always nice to see nice endings like this one* 🙂🙂
That builder is an artist when it comes to building custom PCs. You can clearly see that this passion has probably followed him since he was just a kid. I feel bad that he was blurred. He should have been seen and interviewed in the end. He really deserves business, unlike other stores that put some junk together just to rip people off.
Hear, hear! Those theme designs show true passion, not merely skill and dedication. I hope they find some way to get him some actual exposure.
Yeah I Feel like I need to know who he is.
Ditto!
@@zacplumridge3833 Maybe ask around on the linus tech tips subreddit. Some Taiwanese viewers be going to that fifth floor I think.
I'm actually going on a trip to Taiwan next month just to relax. Heck I'm going to track down this mall and find this guy and support him even more.
Linus. The reason for the slow RAM is that 4 RAM sticks are not supported at high speeds.
The 7950X3D is rated by AMD for 5200MT/s with 2 sticks and only 3600MT/s for 4 sticks of RAM.
The memory controller of the CPU just can't handle that much.
what would be better than, 2 or 4
@@iRobertRS 2 sticks
@@iRobertRSdepends on what you do. Faster speeds is better for gaming, having more ram is better for work.
ermmm but 4 is a bigger number than 2 so obviously having 4 is always better (I am an average joe)
... that's what he said and did to fix it
Like always, very informative video and to top it off very wholesome at the end.
Always nice when you give something away to someone that is genuinely happy for it. Great video, Linus
I feel like Linus saw a respectable kid, and forced his way into getting him to start the convo so he could give him the pc. Super chill kid, and i bet he will never forget it.
that computer is future proof for at least 5-7 years maybe more if all the components hold up. I'm sure every time it fires up he'll think of that moment.
@@pyrolovesmoneyay my good notebook was good for 8 years and it still works rn at 12 yo, that literal top end pc will be usable for like 15 years
or he saw he recognizes him, but it's too shy to approach
@@geeleiia8807 I meant for high end gaming lol, but yet I have an i7-8700k I still do most of my life on.
@@geeleiia8807 future proof doenst mean usable for a $5000 pc. Future proof means it should still be able to run all games at high quality without breaking a sweat. I see a 4090 doing that 7 years from now. Atleast at 1440p. But 15 years? Maybe not.
Seeing you give away the PC to the dude at the end was probably the most wholesome thing I've witnessed in a long time. His jaw was to the floor and his girlfriend was ecstatic. You absolutely made that dudes frickin year.
Linus broke him lol
Imagine getting a 5k rig when you probably game on a hand me down laptop from mom😅
That part was the best!
This was downright heartwarming across the board. Good stuff here Linus.
I LOVE that kid at the end going full boot load screen trying to process what was happening. Small shops are awesome. I had the best PC repair guy in Houston (he was from Taiwan) and he loved that I would bring him parts ready to fix and charged me next to nothing because he knew I loved to repair things. Was very sad when he ended up moving back when his parents got older and needed help.
small shop owners who build the systems themselves probably have a passion for building PCs. its about the craft, not the money. and $5000 USD is a huge margin, probably can go all in on the specs and still make a pretty penny. His skill level definitely deserves it tho
lol error cannot compute lol!
The kid almost blue screen😂
Fun thing about asian tech malls is that every shop is inventory, so theres no need to keep stock. just buy it from the shop next door etc or from the wholesaler
Especially when you are literally in Taiwan
thats a very good point
Exactly what I was thinking. Not in stock at your shop? My buddy three stores down has it I’m sure. Piece meal inventory in the end
Its the same here in Indonesia, everyone in the tech mall shares the same warehouse and can just grab inventory as needed.
Exactly how smart phone stalls thrive in my side of the world. They even share Credit Card terminals (for a small fee, of course)
This new type and refreshed linus videos are a big win and they are great!
That was so nice how the give away worked out. That fan looked genuinely shocked and excited to see you! Really great stuff.
That was so cute.
I loved that 1. The computer tech didn't take advantage of a random stranger walking in, I know the comments are like "HE MUST KNOW LINUS" but there are A LOT of people in the world that don't watch LTT. and 2. the young man who 'won' the computer just got completely broken.
Laughing when he said he didn't know computers and then messaging him at 2:30 Am. makes me think he knows.
@@WayStedYounah, it's just how things are done in Asia.
Everything, absolutely everything is about word of mouth. Customer service their way to do marketing.
There maybe a high chance that he schedules the message to send at 2:30am tho.
Ive seen sellers do that.
he definitely recognized Linus.
its taiwan, we watch linus there too😅
Surely a lot of people don't know Linus but someone who works at a computer store in Taiwan....Come on
There have been a lot of good LTT episodes recently and throughout the years… but this definitely tops the list for me in every way. Giving the computer away, especially to someone who obviously will really appreciate it, that took this to another level.
Thank you for all the awesome work Linus and team. Amazing!
Wholsome video, respect to the store owner, what a guy. And the reaction from the fan was priceless.
Thank you Linus for this tip of the Ram issue, I had my pc running in low profile for 2 years, because I didn't find any info about it, and I didn't exactly know what it was happening with the xmp configuration, and after this video, I pull it out all my rams, and I notice I mix the serial number packs, and now I set it up correctly running at full speed, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
1. That random guy building PCs in a small corner, totally blew lead brand SI into oblivion = Absolute champion!
2. Random kid on the street completely lost the plot out of sheer joy and surprise = Epic!
20:45 the most humble guy so glad he got the computer, the right person got it, awesome.
Thank you for giving away the computer to that guy!
I live in Taiwan and have bought a number of PCs at Guanhua. My service in general always been good too. He said it will come with a one year warranty, but the components will likely have longer warranties if that is what they came with. Even better, they often go beyond what they need to. I had an MB problem on my 3.5 year old computer, leaving the MB out of warranty. I brought it into the service center and they verified the MB was dead. They contacted MSI for me and I was quoted $1000nt (~$30usd) to service it. Included in the $1000 was shipping to MSI and back to Guanhua.
Three days later, they called me and said my computer was back and ready for pick up. When I got there, they hooked up my computer and ran some diagnostics. I can't be sure, but it looked like the MB was brand new, though I can't be sure about that. After the diagnostics on the MB, the tech (perfect English, used to live in Hawaii) said he felt it was a little slow to boot up, so he ran diagnostics on the drives. My main m.2 drive wasn't performing as well as it should be, so he suggested getting a warranty replacement on that. I said I would clone the drive first and do that later. At that point, he said that MSI was going to wave the $1000 fee, the shop wasn't going to charge me, and sent me on my way home. A few days later, I brought the m.2 drive back, they tested it, sent it to Kingston, and a few days later, called me to come in and pick up the new drive. All of this on a 3.5 year old computer, part of which was out of warranty. I love the service here in Taiwan.
BTW, the shop you bought from probably wasn't quite as independent as you might have though. There are a handful of main shops that have outlets like the one you were at, but they are all part of a big company. I don't know all the names, but I know mine was part of the CoolPC group, and there is also one called CarBuy. The builds are all done at their service centers on Bade Road, within a few hundred meters of Guanhua. I would be shocked if your seller was any different. Probably being a part of a big organization is why they can get even kind of rare parts as quickly as they do.
You didn't mention it, but unlike what a lot of people might expect, there is almost no haggling/price negotiation here. You might get a relatively tiny discount, or a few freebies from manufacturers thrown in, but the price is more or less the price. I am surprised though that they didn't ask you to pay 5% more because you paid with a credit card; that is pretty normal here. That is probably why they were hesitant to give you a receipt. I always pay cash (real cash, not debit, not cheque) and have always been given receipts.
Also, for warranty, they typically put a sticker on each component showing the date of purchase. I would be surprised if yours don't.
Interesting to see another Canadian's reaction to the experience in Taiwan.
Thank You for the insight.
This is super informative, thanks for taking the time to post this
taiwan number one!
that's exactly how it works in guang hwa market, and you find ATM in EACH floor for that purpose
Can I just say how sweet it is, that Yvonne got mad at the price, but then was okay with it when it was being donated? Bless your heart :3
I wouldn't say she got mad, I'd she was mildly surprised
“No more clutter for the house!”
Probably okay with it because it affects the budget, now it's a different kind of tax write off.
He wouldn't be able to claim the income tax back because LTT pays tax in Canada. Tax write offs don't just pay for things @@attackJattack
plus then no shipping or import tax home, or luggage charge if he wants to bring it on the plane
This was an awesome video. Loved evey sec of it. Great job guys and gals an Linus.
I don’t typically comment on videos, however, I am really glad I watched this. This was the most heartwarming thing I have seen in a very long time.
21:08! OMG! You made his day! His year! Man, the look on his face. This was an awesome build! You should promote that builder somehow!
He probably made his whole decade, it would have made mine in high school
Don't forget that Taiwan salaries are much lower than in the USA and Canada, so this should be worth way more to him than to the majority of the channel watchers.
On the other hand my friends were literally in the background and witnessing this event made us feel bitter lol, good for him tho
@@icuwan280well thats what they get for not saying "hey are you Linus?" First

Gotta love Taiwan. You can just travel there, drop 5K$ on a random shop, say "I want to play at 4K, make it awesome", pick up an amazing custom computer a few days later, carry it back easily by bus, and all of this without speaking the local language
you will love india more. Those taiwanese are chinese spy

Indeed. Too bad China's right next door... :(
Most of all SAFELY too. I would never carry a 5K computer in public anywhere in the USA.
@@Steve-bc2cl eh, that's true for a lot of Asia. I've carried some expensive computers through the streets of Delhi and Mumbai and they were probably at less risk of being stolen than cheaper computers if anything. And let's not forget the stories of the Afghan PS5s. Plus while I have no personal stories there, I've definitely seen a fair bit of expensive PC gear (along with audio/visual gear) be haphazardly carried around in SEA.
I'm sure Yvonne helped with the language bit
I like the vlogier style of this video, not asking for a full vlog. but the half scripted really personal style is enjoyable
