  • My quick review of the Dell Ultrasharp 34' Ultrawide U3423WE USB-C Hub Monitor.
    As of early 2023, this Ultrawide Monitor is retailing for $1260USD. Plenty of value in this for what you get.
    To check out Dell's monitors with the new IPS Black technology go here: www.dell.com/en-au/work/lp/mo...
    Big thanks to Dell for providing this beast for me to review.

    Nice considered review Ben. Had a look through your equipment list but couldn't see which monitor arm you are using? Also, to switch between devices, is it just changing the input source to the other device? I have that setup on my U3417W monitor which works well, so wondering if this U3423WE is the natural successor. Would greatly appreciate your feedback on these 2 questions. 🙂

    I’m really interested in this monitor for work. I tried the Dell 27” 4K IPS Black version, but it had horrible backlight bleed so I ended up returning it. But I was impressed with the color, picture quality and contrast. I also tried the much cheaper LG 27” Ips black monitor, but the quality control was terrible. Too much backlight bleed and distracting IPS glow.
    I currently use the older Dell S3423DWC. It has a 34” curved VA panel, 100hz refresh rate, AMD Freesync. VA has 3000:1 contrast ratio compared to IPS black 2000:1. Of course it has worse color and viewing angles, but it’s just fine for my use case. It also doesn’t have as good a port selection as this monitor. But then again, it’s less than half the price! I think I’ll stick to that monitor for now, and pick this one up when it goes on sale! Thanks for the review

    great review. Are you using an apple silicon laptop with this monitor? Some monitors are displaying weird lines on the apple silicon products.
    I'm in market for a new monitor. Was thinking on the lenovo thinkvision t34w-20, but came across with a selection of Dell monitors S3423DWC, S3422DWG, S3422DW and finally this one, the U3423WE. I'm a software developer, so my main use case is for programming and studying, so colour accuracy is not an actual need. I will be doing some light gaming (on a steam deck) and occasionally watch a movie, but I have a LG OLED 65" 120hz for heavy gaming and for proper movie watching.
    any thoughts?

It works great for what I use it for, which is media consumption (Alienware X14), or work from home (Dell laptop). I have a WD22TB4 thunderbolt docking station, that way I just switch the PC and the entire setup stays the same. Dell has great products.

    60 Hz is fine for productivity work, but if you work with text very much, the 109 PPI of this monitor means text isn't as sharp as text on a 2160p monitor.

      @@budivoogt491 If you don't mind the cost, one of the 40" 5K2K (5120 X 2160) monitors would work. Dell and LG both have one. They are closer to 140 PPI, which means you'd need to run 125% or 150% scaling, much as you would on a 27" to 32" UHD (3840 X 2106). LG actually has a 34" 5K2K monitor - 34BK95U-W. That's 163 PPI. You'd still need to run upscaling, but the result is much sharper text. I just bought and returned a 27" 1440p monitor, because the text, at 109 PPI, was just not sharp and clear. I went back to my 28" 2160p monitor - that's 157 PPI, and I upscale to 150%. Text is so much sharper.

  • @Untilitpases

    Issue is the constant tweaking and hardware cost to run. (F/S penality) When you hooked the PS4, you were getting black bars too. Furthermore, if you are even remotely interested in good audio, monitor speakers just won't cut it.

    The "IPS Black essentially gives you way better blacks and contrast performance than other monitors on the market" line is simply misleading. The panel is surely better than regular IPS displays in this regard, but it's vastly inferior to MiniLED-backlit and OLED displays, which by the way don't even cost a lot more than this model.

    • @benmack
      @benmack  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I don’t disagree with that. But most monitors on the market aren’t miniLed or Oled displays either. I will say though that this is better than many of the Oled displays I’ve used also.

      I think OLED are starting to surface as ‘monitors’ BUT they are no way ready for professionals. The only one that looks promising is ASUS pro art OLED but that pricey considering OLED is controversial with screen burn etc…Apart from that most are gaming monitors. I think if a manufacturer has come up with a way of improving tech so it adds noticeable value I don’t see the problem with using that as a USP, that IS how marketing works.
