    I've been using the new Dell U4025QW for a few months and it's easily the best monitor I've ever used. I do a lot of video/photo editing and occasional gaming, and the colors and refresh rate are perfect for my needs. My 42" LG C2 was amazing for gaming, but I will never go back to an OLED for productivity.

      Isn't the U4025QW only 60Hz though? I'm interested in these 38-40" monitor more focused on productivity, but they seem fine with leaving them at 60Hz, and I can't seem to handle anything lower than 85Hz even on desktop work now.

    I find it interesting that there seems to be a focus on oled being better here. The vast majority of productivity use-cases (e.g. programming / WFH) would result in OLED burn-in at a faster rate than only using an oled for gaming/watching media. So I find it a bit unusual that a video for productivity monitors is focusing on encouraging going down the oled route when the current state of oled is not suitable for productivity, unless one wants to buy a new monitor after several months. Seriously, working a 9-5 on an oled monitor is not a smart idea until burn-in is significantly improved.

      OLED burn in 2024 is virtually a problem of the past! If you're concerned about it so much, try checking burn-in prevention techniques used in modern OLED monitors/TVs.

    • @williamfarley8434

      Oled burn in is kind of a thing of the past. 2019 was a big leep forward for oleds and they've continued to get better. I can leave my screens on for a very long time (and I do) and have absolutely no issues. Prior to 2019, I had one that definitely suffered from burn-in and LG sent a repair guy to replace the panel. In fact, that's all he did all day. He drove around and replaced panels from burn-in issues. What a crazy job. Lol.

So simple to switch my keyboard between devices even though it's Bluetooth, KVM is so much easier.

    A correction here: macOS can in fact scale (as you put it "independant of the resolution"). Apple just - for whatever reason - describes its scaling in resolution to give you a sense what to expect. Actually it uses the native resolution of the panel. Actually, it scaled far better for years than Windows. But Windows cought up. (I am a Mac user just recently)

    I bought the Samsung G9 2.5 years ago and my monitor died from a manufacturing defect about 2 weeks ago. I called Samsung and I was told by their rep "this is a prime example why people like you should learn to buy the extend warranty", not sure why the Samsung rep decided to be mean instantly, especially since I started the call being respectful and expecting them to stand by their product. But in the end, he said Samsung cannot help me, even if it's a know defect and they said I can be transferred to their sales department to purchase a new monitor.
    If Samsung won't stand by their product, it makes it hard for me to trust Samsung products, especially on a monitor that expensive. I WILL NOT BE BUYING A SINGLE SAMSUNG PRODUCT AGAIN.

    In my opinion the perfect monitor would have the following specs: 49 inch diagonal, 32:9, 4K, 240Hz, MiniLED, 1800R curve, flat stand.
    The monitor that fits most of those specs is the Samsung Odyssey G9 57 inch monitor. But sadly it is way too big, and therefore too tightly curved...

    Currently have a 144Hz 32” 4K monitor. At the office I have a 49” 5Kx1440. Home monitor is better for the height (more rows of code), but the width the office one has is simply amazing for productivity, but is a bit too wide.

    Once you have gone to a true 8K monitor at 65" there just isn't anything else that can compare for productivity. 4 x 32" 4K monitors without bezels is impossible to beat. Eagerly awaiting Pete's review of the QN900 :) It is basically a flat glossy version of the Neo G9 57" with twice the number of pixels. No, it isn't perfect (no monitor / TV is), but it made me return both the Neo G9 57" and the Asus PG32UCDM when looking for the best one monitor setup. YMMV of course.

Now Dell has updated both the 34 and 40 inch one and I am also curious how much different the IPS Black technology is as opposed to regular 1000:1 IPS. I believe you've connected two computers to the same monitor before, but is there a way to easily switch between them using keyboard shortcuts or something like a Stream Deck? Ideally, I'd like to set up three buttons: one to switch the entire screen to my personal computer, another to switch the entire screen to my work computer, and a third button to split the monitor with my personal computer on the left and my work computer on the right.
    Is this possible, or would I need to manually use the monitor's menu to switch inputs or set up the split-screen view?

    • @bilbobagend8155
      @bilbobagend8155 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      OLEDs WILL degrade over time. It isn't a matter of if, but when. If you baby it by turning the screen off while away, or keeping as many static images away from it as possible, you should be able to get a few solid years out of it. Owning an OLED is being on a timer, but during the honeymoon phase, your experience should generally be superior in most ways to any other panel type (other than your constant worrying about burn in.)

    • @PeteMatheson
      @PeteMatheson  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I've owned oleds for a few years now. TVs, monitors, for games, TV, Mac and windows, and not once have I suffered burn in. Yes there are cases where I've seen people have been affected, but it's definitely the minority 👍🏼 crack on and enjoy your monitor. Anti burn in tech is getting better and better every year, so every year it's even less of an issue

    • @bilbobagend8155
      @bilbobagend8155 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A thing to note about "anti burn in tech" is that it works by uniformly burning in the pixels to prevent image retention. This inevitably means that your max brightness will dim over time, but it shouldn't be noticeable for a long time, given the insane contrast OLEDs provide.

      I run a Samsung QD Oled Samsung G8 Monitor I've had it almost for a year. I use solidworks nearly 8 hours a day so lots of icons and static interface on the screen almost all day. No signs of burn it yet. You can see burn in protection shifting everything slightly every couple of minutes, doesn't bother me at all. Every couple of days when I turn it off at the end of the day it pops up a message, that's it running a screen refresh that runs for about 20 minutes. Honestly it's not an issue. The Oled displays are so clear and so vibrant it's worth. Everything from solidworks, to outlooks, to extended gaming sessions in cyberpunk looks absolutely stunning.

    Having said all of that, I’m really interested in your opinion of the Dell 40” you mention in this video. I just bought one recently and the dark fringing around the edges of the monitor was so bad that I had to send it back. e.g. When my email inbox was on the left, the list of folders would have a grey background and the list of emails more toward the center would be white background as expected. Is this just a reality of IPS Black panels and their viewing angles, or did I get a dud?

    Thanks Pete there's a lot of information , but in your opinion which OLED curved is the better on the market for Mac's as I do a lot of reading .... lots .... sometimes have to be reformatted from jpeg to PDF and it gets compromised in terms of clarity. I love the idea of curved but the prices are up there ! Currently I use a 28 samsung which is 3 yrs old . Shall I go a double monitor or go OLED ? I love the idea of having may tabs opened at a glance like you did on the video

    Built in Speakers: don't these take the job from a laptop's speakers for a lot of users?
    If you have THE most dialed desk and speaker setup, or happen to be on ear/headphones, then sure, that's better. But no-one seems to want to talk about a tier system of sound. Say starting at a phone, then a cheap bleutooth speaker or a bad laptop, etc.

    I’ve been torn for months. I’ve tried really hard to make one of the qdoled options work for me. Everything from a 32”, to a 34” ultrawide, to a 55” TV. Recently I’ve been using the Dell 40 and it feels like the right size and aspect ratio, but it’s so expensive for what features I’m actually using. For the same price I can get the 57” Samsung which rtings suggests is better in every way after calibration.
    Samsung is supposed to announce some new monitors in 2 weeks, but that’s past my return deadline for the Dell. Would feel bad if a 57” QD oled gets announced and I’m stuck with the Dell.
