    Regarding the color being a little faded, I can't speak for this monitor in particular but for people transitioning from a TN panel to IPS, you will always notice this issue with colors appearing more "white-ish". That is actually how things are supposed to look (many people use IPS for graphic design) but we're used to monitors that crank up the contrast and saturation by default in an attempt to make things look more vibrant than they are. It's like eating a donut with a lot of sugar in it and then tasting an apple and thinking it has no flavor. Something to keep in mind when you change monitors.

    • @pumpkinthestrange1
      @pumpkinthestrange1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      There's a good chance that she used IPS before, but macs are pretty much always glossy, and glossy displays look more vibrant but always glare like crazy, also you can see your own reflection in it often. Matte screens are more washed out but they don't glare in the sun or light and don't give these mirror-like reflections.

      She also can check if she loaded the color profile... it doesn't always automatically apply.

      the colours are probably just not calibrated properly (e.g. white point not calibrated to 6500K, incorrect colour profile set (sRGB/DCI-P3/Display P3), gamma not calibrated to 2.2-2.4, etc)

      @@adrianjw Yeah that's true, not sure if LG pre-calibrates their monitors. I have the lg 34wl850-w, generally very happy with it although I have considered switching to a VA model for deeper blacks and higher refresh rate but couldn't find one that was at least VESA HDR 400

    Very well done review of your LG UltraWide monitor Mayuko! Good job handling the washed color presentation. You have a very professional desktop workspace well designed absent clutter. Also works well for those moments of stepping away to stretch out in the sunny window with a furry friend. Especially nice inclusion of plant life to keep the mood grounded. Stay Happy! -Bob...

    I used to have multiple screens for my work before I move back to my home country because I needed to have several windows opened so that, as you said, I don't have to waste my time switching the window while taking data to a spreadsheet, for example. One thing that ultrawide screen is better than normal screens is that you can have bigger windows, which is really helpful for someone who need remote accesses to her PC and software inside while working from home and need to have as large working space as possible. It is going to be really helpful, only if I can afford it though...

    Right now I have an older LG 29” ultra-wide and a 27”. Looking to replace the 27” with a normal 32” as I really want more vertical space (hence stumbling upon your review). When I’m doing web dev I really need two monitors. On the 29” I usually have VS Code extended close to the entire width to accommodate the terminal window, editor and side bar open at same time. Then on the 27 I have the web app open along with the dev tools so that takes up a lot of horizontal space. As usual web dev makes things harder than it should be. But thanks for the review gave me something to think about. Btw what did you do with your old monitor? Hate to throw away a perfectly working monitor. Good will donation?

    Green: 50

    try those settings, I think we have the same monitor, also movies are awesome in 21:9, i used to watch them all the time on the apple tv app on my macbook before i turned my ultrawide vertical.

      I bought two 27" QHD recently, to try them out. The monitors were identical to Pixio PX275C but branded to a local computer store. I returned them because I found the setup difficult to use. I calibrated them both and noticed that at least in them, the RGB setting of 50 is actually 100 % and increasing it would just cause clipping of the shades near white. So it seems that properly calibrated monitors always have something like 48, 49 or 50 there. Now I also realize that a contrast setting of 50 is basically the pass-through one, i.e. a "do nothing" setting. But for 120 nits one required a brightness setting of 27, another a 32. I would lend this lady a colorimeter if I were there. But also, Mac OS at least used to have a visual method of calibration.

      Would you prefer a 34" 3440 x 1440, a 38" 3840 x 1600, a 49" 5120 x 1440 or a 40" 5120 x 2160? I can probably afford only the first one but I am also interested in the two following it.

    • @josealvaradotorre6870
      @josealvaradotorre6870 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seriouscat2231 I'm pretty happy with my 34''. Unless those longer monitors have a strong curve, you'll have a lot of the content in your peripheral vision, so I only find it worthwhile to spend extra on the monitor in front of me, not on additional screen that I look at less. I'm not sure whether I prefer just adding a secondary monitor or getting a giant one. If you like to use fullscreen apps (like I used to), then the additional monitor would make more sense. I guess if you use keyboard shortcuts to arrange stuff (like I do now), a super long one might make sense, but I'm not sure. I suspect that a super long monitor's aspect ratio wouldn't go well with videos/photos.

    • @seriouscat2231
      @seriouscat2231 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@josealvaradotorre6870, thanks for taking the time to respond. I borrowed a 32" UHD to try out 1) what a 32" UHD would look like, 2) what the resolution would feel on a 40" 5k2, 3) how many pixels there are in a 3840 x 1600, 4) how do 1440 or 1600 vertical pixels feel when scaled to the equivalent of a 34" or 38" ultrawide. Nvidia's drivers for linux let me choose almost any resolution and scale it to almost any size on screen, so I can simulate the actual size and resolution of both if I just ignore that the extreme edges are missing.
      2993 x 1440 scaled to 3840 x 1848 (128 %) to simulate a 34" ultrawide, 3044 x 1600 scaled to 3840 x 2019 (126 %) to simulate a 38" one.
      I think 1440 is fine and 1600 feels like too much. But you are right that the extreme edges are the real question. And the additional 200 + 200 horizontal pixels.

      I have the same monitor for daily coding. What can I say is that for space it was wonderful! But I find the default font size for common IDE is too small for the screen so unless I get really near to the monitor I can hardly read the code. The small fix to this was to simply increase the font size of the editor only. So other fonts like menu and file manager will stay small and save a lot of space.

Came from a single 27" monitor much like yourself, so the extra screen real estate and simplistic aesthetic made it incredible. However, I have to do a lot of screensharing for my job and it looks distorted on Teams/Zoom. There's ways around it (showing app only, using a laptop/secondary monitor) but the headache for me was enough to switch to dual 27" setup.

      Definitely agree with this. I had a 34” UW for a few months but switched to dual 27” 1440p monitors as well and haven’t looked back.
      I love screen sharing and only showing one screen and doing all of my alternative stuff on my other screen. In the future, if I ever get a bigger desk, I’d love to have a 34” UW horizontal and maybe a 27” vertical as a primary setup.

      You could just reduce the screen resolution to a 16:9 ratio and set the monitor to display that at 1:1 scale with black borders

    I recently got a new 27” monitor and a second portrait monitor but I honestly hate it. Luckily I’m still in the refund period so I’m getting an ultrawide for my work from home and gaming setup. It was nice hearing your experience from a graphic designer perspective!

    I’ve pondered getting a nice monitor for a while, but I’m at that place where a monitor upgrade would require a GPU upgrade, which would require a CPU/motherboard/RAM upgrade, and I’ll suddenly have spent like 3k 😬 This definitely makes a strong case for an ultra wide though. Until then, I’ll stick with my dirt cheap 1080p monitors and do anything requiring colour accuracy, or involving looking at text for more than 10 seconds on my MacBook Pro’s screen.

    • @seriouscat2231

      @@omerats96, by simply existing, no. Your GPU is made to handle it. Only exception is playing games at that resolution. But there's no way to actually damage your GPU with this display.

    I am using an ultra-wide (34 inch (3440x1440p) monitor for over 4 years now. As a developer, what I realize is that I need more vertical space. While horizontal space is great for placing my editor and browser side by side, I am tired of scrolling up and down. I think a 4K 32 inch monitor is the soft spot for me.

    • @ers-br
      @ers-br ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm in that spot... 32" 4K for software engineering. You're right... now I got lots of vertical space. Also horizontal. It's very nice. But I had to leave Eclipse... it's icons are too small for 4K.

    Hi @mayuko or anyone that has this monitor, have you noticed any issues with blurriness when connecting with a Macbook pro? I've been reading some reviews that mention they see blurriness and it's because of the lower PPI, but I'm curious if this is a noticeable thing for the average user.

    • @seriouscat2231

    great channel, new sub here. im thinking of getting an ultrawide but like my dual 27 inch monitor setup w docking station. still tempted to have one ultrawide for home and the dual for work. or thinking of a standard 32 inch monitor instead of the ultrawide.

    • @garyn7067

      The alternative to an ultrawide is a 32 inch 4K, so you get more resolution. As long as your eyes are good enough to see the added resolution.

    I would have gone with the 34" MSI PS341WU. The 5K 5120x2160 resolution is a nice PPI bump. LG has one with the 5k resolution but I did not think it warranted 500 bucks over the MSI one.
