So you both did that in one hour? It's amazing how you can read these dogs! It's tough to find "educators" like you who can do what you do. Wish you could do an event in St. Louis.

I was anti-"shock"collars because of what I've heard others say. You changed my opinion when you said in other videos that you use a "buzzing cell phone" kind of pressure that's not painful, not even like a static shock. TY for what you do & sharing it in these videos.

This girl is amazing and how all dog owners should be. When you brought a dog into your home you also brought the responsibility of giving them a great life. I admire that for years she has been learning how to provide a better life for her dog. So many people would go to one trainer then give up when the dog's behavior is not fixed. It just makes me so happy that she cares so much for her family member she will go to multiple professions in order to better her relationship with her dog. Parents take their sick child to multiple doctors until they receive the correct answer and this is what she has done. Makes me so happy.

What I can't believe the other trainer told this lady to walk her dog at MIDNIGHT 🙄🙄 doesn't that just mean the trainer couldn't train this dog? This owner could've done midnight walks even without going to the trainer. Crazy really. So glad Tom was able to help her. Only after owning a reactive dog myself I realise how much debate there is over dog training and how pure positive reinforcement training will never work for dogs like that. I really really wish people are more educated in this aspect. And they should STOP spreading rumours that choke/prong collars are used as torture devices what the hell! I'm using a choke collar and this lady asked me if I choke my dog using it like what?! My leash is always slack because of the training I've done with my dog and I can assure her and I bet that her normal collar has more pressure on her dog's neck than my choke collar cos her dog pulls 🤦🏻‍♀️

    • @eemmzzz

Here we call it a check chain and pinch collar respectively. I haven't had anyone try and berate me for using a check chain yet but if they do I'm going to say they're welcome to try walking my 90lb+ 12 month old GSD on a flat collar stuffing cookies in his mouth and see how that goes lol. They'll just get dragged down the road!

    • @braden6773
      @braden6773 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@eemmzzz If you still need the check chain after 12 months to avoid getting dragged down the road. He is just behaving for fear of punishment. I'm not sure that is much better than only behaving when there is a reward. In both cases you are screwed if caught unprepared.

i spent a grand on a dog trainer. my dog is now 2. extremely smart in the home and listens. very viscious on a leash to people and dogs. i found a new trainer and he gave me the hermes-sprenger collar and my dog is walking at my heels.( i had a fake version) i swear i almost cried. i hated this dog!!!! and loved her at the same time. it was so frustrating. i lost my Son and needed this dog more than anyone knew. im so estatic to walk her now. its only been 3 days so work in process. but these videos Tom are so encouraging. Thank you so much!!!

Tom, I cannot express how much your videos have helped us. My dog is a large, fearful shepherd mix that we rescued with no knowledge of his reactivity. After three years of endless struggling, nightmarish walks, and being brought to tears questioning whether or not I should even own a dog, I found your videos. Omaha is now a confident, calm boy who can walk past other reactive pups with not so much as an growl. You saved our relationship, and I can’t express enough how much it means to me to not see my dog so terrified all the time. We can both enjoy our walks now, and he’s starting to make new friends. Thank you so much for spreading your knowledge.

I use a prong collar and and the mini educator ecollar on my 10lbs Yorkie mix. Especially with small dogs, people think these tools are a no go because they’re so cute and smol. My little one went through 14 sessions, all 1:1 with a balanced trainer. People criticize me about the tools I use, but I’m learning to not care. He now can be off leash because of his reliable recall. *cries in Yorkie*

Could I make a suggestion though please? Perhaps you can adjust the file naming convention of the videos as I wasn’t aware this was a four-part series if it wasn’t for one of the comments I came across. People say a dog listens to that because he's afraid. HAH! If he was afraid, he sure as hell wouldn't be so calm around something that usually makes him afraid. He'd be worse, not better.

Did you know the guy from the channel Fenrir Canine Training says he idolizes you? Thought you might like that. He seems to be quite the respectable trainer, as well.

This series is really well done. So helpful. I ordered a prong and while it was on its way I started practising my timing and technique on a flat collar, so that I could learn the body language component of this before the prong was actually on my dog. Just the body language and verbal communication shift drastically helped my dog understand what I wanted and now I feel more confident progressing to using the tool. thanks so much.

I have two Dobers at the moment, one is a female 1,5 years, the other one I have for only three weeks (is one years), a male. I am completely in synch with your approach. I've had Dobers for 30 years, but of course one is never to stale to learn (I hope), so I watch all of your videos with intent, and I have learned new things from you. Also I can record my voice to the system, I can use my voice recording to train my dog, say goodbye to the traditional beep sound for good. So far it seems really effective. All I do is pressing the voice recording button to correct my dogs behavior. We hardly have to use the shock setting.

Honestly. Tom is a fucking legend. I’ve been taking all his advice and training tips and using it with my second dog Murphy who is a 2 year old golden retriever. He’s been anxious since he was a little pup and the pet behaviourist, said he’d never be normal without medication. I refused to believe her and with tons help have been consistently training him. We are nowhere near perfect and of course some days are frustrating. But In a short amount of time we’ve made leaps and bounds for progress. I’ve only been using the standard flat collar but am now transitioning to a slip collar. Just being clear in what I want him to do and being a leader has helped him so much.
This channel is changing my life and I know one day Murphy will be able encounter any situation feeling calm and relaxed.

I really like the way you figure out the best way to train each dog. I have wasted a year doing mostly positive traing on my leash reactive beagle. I have also tried other trainers where they tell me I have to be the alpha and the dog needs to be scared of me. I live in Korea, where if I use prong collars or e collars, I am uneducated and I'm abusing my dog. I just ordered my first HS prong collar and a vibrate e collar online. I hope this will help with my stubborn over reactive beagle.

Great content, but thank you especially for recording the safety clip. A lot of people use prongs and don’t use them. So important.

This just shows me how grateful I am for taking my dog to a behaviorist because let me tell you training my dog in this manner would definitively not help because he is fearful and lots of people think shut down dogs are well trained .

I have a service dog in training at the moment and while clicker training, shaping, and positive training has worked for the majority of our skills, we still struggle with reactivity when other dogs aggress at us. Obviously, it’s reasonable for my guy to react when dogs bark and lunge at us but it’s something that cannot happen when he’s working. I can’t always bail but being able to get him past the dog and break the spell with a quick pop works much better and eventually, hopefully we can work through it. Thanks Tom!

Question:Your videos have helped me so much with training my dogs, a 75 lb golden doodle and a 19 lb schnooddle. Taking them for a walk is a nightmare due to pulling issues from my golden doodle and general excited behavior and barking when another dog is around. I have been working with both on the heel no pull videos and they have been doing very well. I expanded from garage to out in the street of my quiet cul de sac and a short ways up the block. How long should I continue in these spaces before trying to go around other dogs which is when they start barking and pulling? I have been using a slip leash on both. Should I continue using or do you suggest something different like the collar in the video above (not sure what kind of collar it is)Thanks for the videos and any help.

Hey Tom, what kind of collar are you using here? I was checking your amazon equipment list but I don't see it. Between this series and the one you posted a couple of days ago, me and my dog are enjoying the walks way more.

I am learning SO much from you and have a question. We have a tiny, reactive dog (toy fox terrier) with a collapsing trachea so she HAS to use a harness, but can't feel any feedback from me with her current harness. Is there one you recommend for her? Thank you!

I just bought a Dr.Trainer Dog Training Collar for my German shepherd. This Training Collar has auto retractable and will not cause irritation to my dog's neck. Also I can record my voice to the system, I can use my voice recording to train my dog, say goodbye to the traditional beep sound for good. So far it seems really effective. All I do is pressing the voice recording button to correct my dogs behavior. We hardly have to use the shock setting.

This is amazing. I've been hesitant to put a prong on my doberman mix because I thought they were a sensitive breed. Seeing how balanced training helped this dog (even though he's a small size) made me realize the value of boundaries. For anyone who's reading this, don't worry I'm gonna be working with K9 Grassroots over the next couple months to learn how to use the tool. Hopefully, my girl will be more confident on walks soon.

this is amazing! love to see people take control of the situation like this :) it gives so much confidence both to the dog and the handler. with the prong, does it matter where the clip to connect the leash sits? i see a lot of people putting it in the front below the dog’s chin, but henry’s is in the back

So, it's a prong collar. I couldn't tell what type of collar he was referring to, because I hadn't seen the previous segments.

God I need tom to help with my corgi. Hes so hyper and reactive. Insecure. Hes been rehomed and wasnt walked the first year of his life. He just turned 3 and weve made great progress but I realize watching this series I have to work on the relationship and positive reinforcement without treats. Weve done training and obedience classes, but it's not fixing his behaviour. Hes only listened for treats.. I have to make him feel secure. March break (next week) I'm off all week and lm going to work my ass off using these methods to give him the security and confidence on a leash.

My e collar has 10 levels. I tried level 10 on myself. It scared the crap out of me BUT it didn't hurt. When I first introduced it, he would not react to the first 5 levels, and when he was extremely excited 7-8 was still not working. I have used 9 once. That whole process was maybe 2 weeks. I also added in a lot of positive reinforcement. At first I also didn't realize I could use the BEEP function for reward, One I figured that out, it was soooo much easier.
Now I am on levels 1-3. If he is extremely excited it is a 4. Most of the time I use the BEEP for a positive mark.
I've been binging your videos, and picking up things and putting together a box of useful things. Placing them with how my dog is. I =have already made huge progress after 3 days!

Henry reminds me of my dog. They just don't know how to react in social situations. They are kinda scared, nervous, unsure and just doesn't trust the other dogs. Give them some time with some good interactions. He'll come around :)

She’s come a long way with “see the person, get a treat” “person moves, get a treat”

E Collars are so misunderstood. My Service dog would have die from chasing and Pica without a using an E Collar. Used correctly they are great. I would never say all you do Tom is use E Collars. As you know its all about balance and using which ever tool is required for the individual dog. Great job Tom, thank you : )
