  • In this video Stop Leash Pulling - Stop your dog from pulling on the leash can be easy after this video! This is the first time Thomas has worked with this dog and the immediate change in behavior is apparent. In minutes zeus goes from too stressed to take any directions to a good heel and a much more laid back state of mind. Thomas explains exactly how to use the leash for correction to stop leash pulling as well as what not to do.

Verbal commands need to be consistent between multiple owners, handlers. Dogs are not bilingual. If its "heel " it is not "walk" with someone else.

He just hit his head on camera and probably knew it was going to be put up on YT, that was the best reaction he could've had 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣
Actually I take that back..would've been better if everyone else had noticed, but he just completely did not acknowledge it at all and just kept a steady pace forward, like nothing had happened. 🤣

Some of my dog's misbehaviors were due to my inability to train him correctly.

Same here.. finally figured that out after giving away 2 $1200 rottweilers lmao.. very expensive learning experience for me there.. I finally just went with hand commands only with a clicker.. no verbal communication or command except the clicker.. I use that as the attention grabber and to call the dog .. another words he is never too far to hear the clicker but if he is he is always watching me regardless of where he is for the fact all his commands are from hand signals therefore he has to watch me. But that's when the clicker comes in to play. For ex. if he is not watching me or is laying around I'll click once for his attention, then 2 clicks for "come" or a hand command.. hand commands are so much easy than verbal commands.. and your able to communicate with your dog while out in town or in the house while the baby is asleep without anyone knowing.. best thing ever.. I've worked extremely hard to only obey hand signals or the clicker. After 6 months he will not take any verbal commands from me, my wife, the kids or anyone else far as that goes.. extremely nice in my opinion.. 1 thing to always remember....your dog DOES NOT speak English or any other language nor does he automatically understand your words.. Good luck to everyone who may never read this. God bless

      @@FullNelson007 that's really cool.
If I want my dog to come I just point at my feet. Works very well.
If I want him to heal, then I will just walk away and point at my feet again and he follows.
Same with getting in the car or going into the house.
      It's pretty cool.

    • @FullNelson007
      @FullNelson007 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@michaelangelos5117 yeah I'd have to say it's truly the coolest thing about having a dog. If you don't have a clicker I'd say give it a try.. when your useing hand commands try to use 1 finger pointing down at your feet as you said for "here or come" 2 (I use pointer and thumb) for my signal to heel.. just different ways you use your hand so your dog is not seeing the same commands for each task.. would kinda be like saying "come" for all 3 main things.. come, sit & down.. dogs are very intelligent and can see the difference in your hand each time trust me..

I met a young man today training his young female shepherd. He was doing your “tune up” and I asked him if he’d seen your TH-cam videos. He said yes! He loved you and learnt how to train his dog with your videos. He got this dog after his friend was giving her up because she was so unruly. His beautiful girl was doing so well, no pulling, she was engaged, just perfect!! I thought WOW!! The power of TH-cam & a great trainer is changing the world. Well done Tom!

I appreciate this so much I wish you’d make a follow up even more detailed. Lily and I were loving tug and it started to “turn ugly” enough that I wasn’t comfortable and I have avoided playing tug since.
Tug seems to be her favorite thing to do and guidance to make it enjoyable for us both is really needed.
How do you decided when it’s a good time to give your Bull the toy? Does he take it from you at times? There is a power dynamic here that I am not really knowing how to handle with my Lily. Thanks.

I’m starting to work with a Rottweiler who is very very strong and obese. I’d like to be able to take him for walks, but I understand that it’s going to take some training beforehand to get him to not pull me away. He’s very friendly, so friendly in fact that if he sees another dog he’ll pull to say hi to it. I’m really excited to see how far his training can go and how his leash and communication skills will improve. One step at a time.

I definitely subscribed to your channel. This stop leash pulling video is amazing and to see how you made the correct, nice, with no pressure, and calmly.
My dog is hyperactive. He gets his energy out thru doggie daycare. My issue is how he gets over excited when we get our keys, coat, or his leash. He spins, jumps, etc. When I got to put his collar or leash on his is out of control. He will stop and give me a down or sit when he sees me not moving.
How can I stop this? Do you have a video to help?

  • @kizmoxstar4723

Great explanation on not using prong. I use the prong with my GS because she wanted to keep constant leash pressure, even while being otherwise well behaved. That can cause nerve damage in the dog, but I never realized how bad she was until I injured my hand and that slight pull hurt. Now there is ZERO leash tension on a heel. My other dog does not need this level of inervention.

    • @danabyrd891

I had to Upgrade to prong Collar to get my dogs attention, he’s a Rottweiler puppy and very very big at 10 months old. Fortunately the collar got his attention and he doesn’t resist it at all I’m almost to the point of changing over to another collar. The point is I can’t have a dog dragging me because he’s huge and I’m not and I want him to be obedient and my protector not a silly heart dog that’s all over the place and running me over. I have just lost my female after 12 years and it broke my heart he will never be what she was but hopefully he’ll be close.

Same here, I have a 4 mos old BM. She is always excited when we go outside and keep on pulling the leash. I am afraid that her throat might get damage that is why I am using the prong now. No more pulling on the leash because now I can communicate with her clearly.

This works in a controlled environment but factor in the dog knowing were going to the park and knowing were gonna play and all leash pulling hell happens even after just playing and practicing inside cause inside and in the yard she's a little angel( I'm referring to an Amstaff if that helps ). 😶🐾

That's a beautiful pup. I like it has the maniacal drive, and the smarts. I have an abpt similar, and his issue was always over stimulation/redirection. He's good with all animals aside from some breads of dogs, but never has hurt anything. He see's larger dogs as threats, though he was used as bait. He really is 'breedist'... there's only a handful he wants to take out, and it's because they want to play with him as a wrestling buddy, or they are dominant and insecure. GIve em something to do, make them feel safe and give them direction, they become WONDER PUPS! Mine is a dock diving certified service dog (mind you he's 11 now, so things have slowed down A BIT) But it was funny we were 'social distancing' yesterday, and for about 40 minutes he sat beside me with the leash on the ground. No anxiety, didn't lay down, just sat for 40 minutes while 3 people chatted and other dogs/kids went by, when he got up I took him for a stroll to check things out, but no correction, just expected behavior that he knows will be rewarded or fought.
Love this pooch. Can't do much as an outdoors guy in Canada with these lil bastids, need me a full time winter breed for what I do. But this one's great.

18:39 when you were talking about collar awareness (I’ve always called it collar smart or collar wise) but anyways I have a lab and he’s field bred and he’s super freaking hot and he is collar smart. So when the people I train with and myself are training for out competitions and test that we run he has his e-collar on and his obedience is great he cool and calm. The problem is you can’t use an e-collar at a hunt test or field trial and he gets around all the people and smells and sounds and that super hot dog comes out and he is literally uncontrollable. So I’m just asking if you know of a way to fix a dog from being collar smart. Because he’s past the level of hunt test that I’m aloud to keep him on a leash and hold onto him to keep him from breaking and I would really like to go further with the test but that’s just not a real possibility right now.

I have an 11 month old mini Labrador who doesn't respond well to the reward/punishment training.
We used that style of training with our first labrador and it worked really well so it's been an adjustment for us to have to switch gears.
I tried using the gentle leader with her during our walks and she did not care about the pressure. I recently bought the slip knot leash so this video has been really helpful to watch!
She heals on my right so does this mean the slipknot should look like a 9 before it goes over her neck?
