The prong collar changed my life and my pup's. We do a good 20 mins walk with the prong collar. After that he gets his "Break" fun time on his 30ft leash. He sees other dogs walk by while he's on his break fun 30ft leash and no more drama. He goofs around and keeps up with me, ignoring the other dogs. We could not have come this far without the prong collar.

I once had to urgently go to hospital for two weeks and left my Rottweiler, then a 6 year old trained PTSD service dog, with a dog trainer who also had a dog hotel. When I got home from hospital and went straight to fetch my beloved and well behaving dog, my Rottweiler was wearing a prong collar, which obviously was too small. My dog did not like collars at all and was very sensitive on his throat, which is why he usually didn't wear a collar. My dog had tried to get rid of the prong collar and thereby injured his paws. In addition, his neck and throat were a huge open wound, with the raw flesh showing and bleeding! He must have blead for days, because the fur was full of dried blood beneath the fresh blood. The "dog trainer" said, he didn't recognize that and that he "had to" use this smaller prong collar, because my Rottweiler got rid of it when it had one more unit attached!
I had to buy a small bolt cutter at the hardware store, so I could cut off the prong collar. It had buried it's teeth into my dog's flesh, so I had to cut it multiple times and then pull out the sections of the prong collar one by one out of the raw flesh!!!
The "dog trainer" stated, that my dog wouldn't behave on the leash and that he would keep on pulling him. But as I said already, my Rottweiler Lodur was a well behaving PTSD service dog. I'm a woman and in my 50's, and certainly not as strong as a young, athletic man with only 32 years of age, but I did not have such problems with my huge Rottweiler weighing 70 kg. I suppose, this "dog trainer" wasn't confident enough to walk my dog with his usual outfit, and therefore he abused my dog with this prong collar.
18 months later, and my Lodur now dead since 5 months and 3 weeks and 2 days, I still feel this very pain in my stomach, which I felt when I saw that the prongs had dug themselves into his flesh all around his neck and throat. 😢 I can't even imagine how much pain my dog had suffered from the prong collar. 😢😭
This "dog trainer" is "training and socializing" so-called anti-social dogs at the animal shelter nearby! He also was the only owner of a dog hotel, who would take over my Rottweiler while I was in hospital. He also said my dog would stay in the house with the family, but when I fetched Lodur, without informing him in advance that I would come around, he went outside to get my dog.
I just hope my dog did not think that I had left him there knowing how he would suffer physically. I of course knew that my dog suffered mentally, when I was not with him. As PTSD service dog, he and I had an intense and very close bond, so being apart was likewise psychologically and mentally a torture for both of us.
My Rottweiler Lodur died because of the actions of a dog hater on April 29th this year. Rottweilers and several other breeds, are considered by many people as viscous and aggressive due to mainstream media spreading hatred against certain dog races. 😡🤬

As a fellow dog trainer, I love watching your videos. My toolbox has many of the same techniques but it's interesting and informative to see how you explain things and the analogies you use. I’ve learned SO MUCH from watching the videos on your channel! My 2 yr old German Shepherd has never had any sort of obedience training and we’ve never had any sort of control with her. We’ve walk her around the neighborhood a few times a week but she’s constantly pulling and going where she wants to go. I’ve took your advice and got her a “Prong Collar”. I watched several of your videos on how exactly it should fit as well as how to use it and in the past 3 days of working on “leash training” with her, she is like a completely different dog! 😃. We still have a long way to go so keep putting your videos out . They are a HUUUGE HELP. Thanks again!

Good video! I’ve been using a prong collar for about 3 weeks. My dog walks almost perfect with it. Just wondering how this transfers over to walking him without the prong collar. He is only 5 months so I know I have a long road ahead, but I’ve noticed that he knows the difference between the two collars.

I tried your tactics for training my uncle’s dog to heel and it worked amazingly she even hopped over a 2x4 poll on the porch! Sadly the dog is with his wife and not him so I can’t help train her 😔
Do you have a video on jumping ? My dog gets so excited he will jump on someone when we are walking and I’m trying to go through your videos to see what I can learn to stop it.
I'm not a professional by any means. But have dealt with a couple dogs like that on my own. Don't reward that behavior by petting them or giving them any sort of positive attention while they are doing the undesired behavior. Your guests will have to follow this rule too. Tell them before they arrive, explain to them that it's a behavior you don't want (if you have to, tell them it's so your elderly or very young relatives can visit and not worry about getting hurt accidentally by the dog jumping) so it's important that they follow your guidelines even if they don't mind being jumped on. When they jump on you, give a firm "no" (and/or "down") and either gently push them to the side/off of you or continue walking forward so they are forced to move. There's definitely more to it, hopefully he will do a video or respond to your comment with some more help, but just doing that much helped with my in-law's dog we had to keep for a few weeks. Now that she's back at home with them, they don't follow through and aren't consistent so she's back to jumping on everyone. But when they came over while we were still keeping her, they even commented "she isn't jumping like she used to! how did you get her to do that!"
Your videos have really helped me fell confident to train a shelter dog I am considering to adopt. Would like to hire you for personal sessions if that is possible via Zoom.
I saved this video and am going to feel out the volunteer program I just toured. the people I saw walking the dogs had no clue; to be fair, they are just volunteers. if I think appropriate, I will share this with the director and see what they say. right now it seems the mentality is just like, oh at least they are getting fresh air and not in kennel; not good enough in my mind. most dogs there were bully mixes. I can't wait to dig in.
I tried to volunteer at a shelter here in my town. I walked 3 dogs and each one wanted to pull my arm off. I did some pressure work right outside the window before we started walking. When I came back they said I could not volunteer unless I go work with there PP trainer. That was the first and last time I was there.

@@all4dogstrainingrehabilita79 that's so disappointing i volunteer once in a while at a shelter and instead of letting those huge bully mixes drag me around on a harness they make out if slip leads, i use the slip lead how its supposed to be used and do pressure work before walking. most volunteers just said/thought it was a natural talent i have to be able to walk dogs calmly, since i am so young, but i was like no its called training.
I have a new puppy. English mastiff that is a complete and total clam once the collar and leash go on her..should I try a slip collar or go straight to prong?

What type of slip collar are you using in this video??
I have a pitt/GSD/Mastiff X. She keeps jumping the 8 foot fence hence she's chained when we're not home to keep an eye on her. What can be done about the fence jumping?
What about a 85 lb., physically strong GSD with a high prey drive? Ours does well in his training, but his nose is always distracting him outside with all the smells - deer running by on our property, turkeys, chipmunks, scents left overnight etc. Do you correct him when his nose is always down sniffing or in the air sniffing not paying attention to his owner?

I’m making the experience, that the pack doesn‘t help for obedience. It does for learning tricks and „bad things“ like go hunting after rabbits 😣

My question is, we adopted a now 10 month old lab mix. She's very smart, meaning we have taught her sit, shake, lay down and load up. She is like this girl here on a leash. We are using a harness to walk her but even at 50lbs she pulls me(I'm 370 lol). Our local trainer that saw her didn't recommend a prong collar but just positive reinforcement. Any suggestions? Plus it sucks I missed ya when u were in kc, get in bbq while u were here with pat?
I did get good BBQ, If it's not working then switch to something that works it's that simple.
from 5:49 on while you're helping the dog calm down a little so she can pay attention better, are you not also dominating the dog with not only your body language but with your slight roughness of touch? If so, was that your intention or just something that happened? Learning a lot from your videos keep up the great work
I'm just hanging out with her on her level to calm her down a bit. This is a dog that has never been told "No" it is a stressful session with her. As you see over the course of the session she calms right down and understands the game.

What to do with a dog GSD who is 'very independent' ie doesn't have a good report with me and barks at another dog or cat when we walk. Do I continue on walking and completely ignore it (being a confident owner), do I say no(souns like barking to her), moving in another direction is not a solution always if the other dog approaches regardless as we end up going sme direction (dog will loom back) or we need to turn back to go to our destination(like home) - cannot keep running from dogs all the time

I have a 3 year old Australian Shepherd shelter dog , extremely fearful. In one year he has made lots of progress. I want your opinion on a prong collar. He has an 18 in neck. . Should I get the 3.0 or get the 2.25/with extra lengths.

Question😬: So I have a Chows nd my youngest boy just turned 10mths nd hes still in that playful I do what I want phase😅 I personally refrain from using collars since they pull themselves off of them often so I turned to harness but they can also get off those😬, but in other words...I have the exact same issues as this doggie on this video. Is there anything else Id have to turn to to help him with this training? We have a lot of ground to cover nd usually they dont listen without treats😑 I take him out EVERYWHERE I go but its a hassle since he goes crazy with crowds nd other dogs (not agressive) just jumpy nd will start to pull on the leash alot leaving my hands soar nd purple from holding him, hes 45lbs so hes a pretty big boy for me to hold especially when I walk both of my chows in a double leash cause they power each other😓 would like to know if a pron would work on this breed😅 ive tried using trainig collars but its a hastle cause they dont feel anything since the hair gets in the way alot😑 but i just dont know what to do anymore, this is really a problem for me😔 ive seen on most of your videos you use the pron collar, but its usually on short hair dogs, would like to know how this would work on double coated dogs😁

Is leash pressure the same as leash pulling?
Not exactly.
Leash pressure is only a slight pressure, which stays until the dog does as he is supposed to. For example, the dog should heel and walk close to you on your left side, with the head always right next to your left knee. As soon as the dog moves away from this position, he needs to feel the pressure. But as soon as he returns to the wanted posture, the pressure needs to *immediately* go away. Timing is very important, really crucial, otherwise the dog cannot understand.
I only used leash pressure after I had taught a dog the right behaviour, so I was sure the dog knew exactly what I wanted him to do, but either did it sloppy, or just didn't want to carry out what he had been told.
Leash pressure or collar pressure are a positive discouragement, reducing the pressure is a negative reinforcement. Both are part of operant conditioning, which works with positive and negative reinforcement, as well as with positive and negative discouragement. It originally was designed for human psychology or for raising children. But it works with animals as well, as long as you are consequent with *your* behaviour / action / reaction.
BTW I learned from my dogs the importance of consequent education of my children. Raising kids has pretty much the same basics. 😉
I just recently adopted a german shepherd mix, honestly, he is great he already alerts on my anxiety and gives me pressure therapy that makes me stop my behaviors. To me, it seems he has been or could have been trained before we got him from the shelter. His name is Tadeo, and I plan to owner train him to be my psychiatric service dog. The name Tadeo (pronounced Tuh Day Oh) means different things in different languages, Armenian and possibly Italian it means gift. Said to come from the Hebrew word for beloved. Okay sorry, blog writer I get long-winded sometimes, so my questions basically do I first see what he can do before I continue his training for my first goal of getting him CGC? Also an unrelated question about another dog I have she is a Bichon Frise that has gone blind due to Sards, she is clicker trained because she is not able to see, and I don't really require much from her other than heel and sit which only sit is treat driven she is or seems fearful of Tadeo, I have been watching your videos would any of what you do for sighted dogs work for her being blind?
