Wow! Outstanding! What kind if collar is that? My dog is reactive on a harness/Leash. Would love too know exactly what you did here. And how got it too focus on you so well!
Ps: Your dog is something else, Really shows your capibility too guide the dogs you work with. I never seen anything like that.

I just recently stumbled across your channel and am completely blown away. So amazing to watch you interact with the dogs! 💖 Love the way you educate the owners to improve their knowledge and built a healthy relationship with their dogs. Finally someone who truly implements balanced training including tools like e-collars and prongs in case needed and how to use them correctly 👌🏻⭐️ there are so many “trainers” out there using treats only, but would never take on cases like you do, probably because they know that their way of training will not help or even make things worse.often these people state corrections are equal to abuse, they should carefully watch your work and learn how it’s done 😬

People don't realize that prong collars are not meant to scare the dog into not pulling, but instead as a method of communication. I rescued a 9 month lab that was pretty much neglected by the owners and had zero control on a leash. He would pull so hard that his neck had a red mark from the leash (keep in mind the leash was loose, so it was just from pulling). When I got him I used a prong collar to teach him how to walk, and followed a lot of examples from your video, and now even though I am still working with him, I can take him out off leash at night to go to the bathroom and back, and he would stay next to me. Also, I do not need to use the prong collar anymore since he pays much more attention to me now.
You are awesome! Keep these great posts and looking forward to ep. 3!

I love your videos! I have a German Shepherd male of almost 2 years old and he is extremely reactive to dogs and people (only on the leash, off leash is fine). He looks quite similar to one of your videos with the anxious German Shepherd. He is barking and pulling and wants to go there very strong. He is 41kg, so you can imagine how strong he is when he's reactive and pulling like crazy. We've started applying your theory with the slip collar, but I often hear him choking. What tool do you recommend for him? Many thanks in advance! Greetings from the Netherlands.

You've heard it a million times, but you are AMAZING!! I wish you were in Oklahoma.. I sure night you for an abused pocket pit who just doesn't listen. All of my other babies will drop on command. But, he is just crazy nuts.. Hates little dogs and I'm so afraid to take him around children. He is crazy strong and I'm afraid he would jump on a child in play and really hurt them or if they scream high pitch, attack.. He was left for 18 days, no food or water while his family went on vacation. When I found him he could not lift his head. About the only movement I got was his eyes.. Rushed to the ERVet and lucky they saved him. But, I've had no luck in over a year finding him a home..

I've tried prong collars and lot's of engagement with my dog's reactivity towards other dogs that he has had since he was 5 months old (1 year old now), but it hasn't worked out in my favor... I'm at my wit's end. I tried PP and balance training with prongs, easywalk, head halter, martingale, slip lead, e-collar, and pretty much everything but a choke collar, and I don't know what to do about his barking at other dogs. He absolutely loves playing with dogs, but when we're on walks, he will bark as soon as he sees a dog. It's super easy to redirect, but if I am not aware a dog is in eyeshot, he will bark and lunge at the dog.

Hey maybe you should try having the dog not be in front of you. Also be calm have calm energy and get your dog attention before it reacts. Bring a little spray bottle or air thing and use it. Know your dogs red zone- meaning does he or she stare at the distraction, hair up and tail up etc. Give the dog a quick “Hey over here, not there here”. Type of correction using the leash, spray bottle or air thing. In my opinion prongs, martingales etc should work. But maybe you’ve been allowing this behavior to continue get the dog before it reacts and be calm don’t coddle the dog just say let’s go and move on act like nothing was there. But work on your structures and obedience at home first then little by little. Hope this helps, best of luck:)

I have a 2 year old coonhound and I never know if I should allow her to sniff on walks as a reward or as she pleases? Sometimes she will listen and other times she is distracted by her nose and it leads to issues with her following commands. I understand that is her instinct so I don't want to punish her for it or restrict it but I would also like an obedient dog.

    Hey Tom,
I use e-collar training with my malamute. She is good when the other dog isn't being reactive, but if we pass an over active dog, she will react. Is e-collar correcting doing harm in this situation? Essentially I am trying to snap her our of the reacting and get her to focus back on me. Which works on a high rating to get her attention, but I don't want her to associate every dog with the collar sensation. Thank you for your time, and everything you do for the dog owner community. You legitimately save lives.

If done all the time, that's the purely positive approach and it's not a good strategy if used exclusively. There is a time and a place for redirection and a time and a place for corrections. 100% of either is wrong, that's why the balanced approach is best when it's tailored to the individual dog.

What's the difference between a slip collar and a slip leash? Do they work different?

    • @tomdavisofficial
      @tomdavisofficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Blessing Knighten they do work different, the collar attaches to a reg leash and the slip leash is one big leash.

Hey tom. I'm just starting out as a trainer and was wounding what is your style for training working dogs, Such as police dog/ military dogs? Is it represent your behavior modification or do your build the "ball crazy" dog?

    • @tomdavisofficial

I do not understand this question.

I'm sorry for the confusing question I'll rephrase. I'm part of a training club and most of their K9 are high drive dog. The trainers dog seem be frustrated as in wining and barking. I was wondering (if you work protection dogs) if you keep them clam or build their drive to almost a frustrated state? I ask because my dog is pretty calm confidence and relax but she has energy while we are in training setting. I'm wondering if I need to bring her drive up for home protection or not worry to much? She is a Belgian Malinois bull mastiff mix.

Thomas! 2:45 the dog wanted to sit down and half on his way you corrected it. Was it because he did it too slowly or just an unnecessary correction?

I feel so bad for the owner! She went to 6 trainers for 5 years and never thought or read about using a slip collar or prong collar? I've owned dogs that just needed slip collars to a dog that needed a shock collar during the beginning of their training. Eventually they all ended up needing slip collars, just regular collar or no collar depending where we were going and doing of course
