Thanks for everything you do, Tom. You’ve saved my dogs life in multiple ways. He was so reactive on leash and started to redirect his frustration on me, now he walks so well even with other dogs around. (We are still working on the excessive whining, one step at a time, right?)
Don’t ever stop doing what you’re doing.

Upstate Canine Academy I started to implement your prong collar technique to him instead of the slip chain, and I have never been able to walk him that well. Even with his dog bff in front of us acting crazy and lunging at him, he didn’t move a muscle. He whines like crazy but if that’s how he gets out his frustration rather than lunging and barking and then redirecting to me I’m alright with it. Again thank you for these videos, you make things make sense for everyone and are honestly the reason I’m working on becoming a dog trainer.

The biggest help that you gave my dog and I is to believe that we can do it (good relationship, obedience, etc). Purely positive training from a "know it all fancy trainer" didn't do much outside a training room for my HIGH drive German Shepherd and made me feel like shit about correcting my puppy and previous well behaved dogs. Now I get compliments on how she listens to me and her obedience. You are saving lives (humans and dogs). And I would have been a GS myself. Lol

They need your time, attention and leadership. Please keep posting new material (specialy on working breeds like GSD). Love to see more on how to keep two dogs on check while handling them out on walks or outings. (I am struggling with the "monkey see monkey do syndrom" with my 2).

I'd like to say thank you for sharing the methods you've learned through years of experience. We just recently moved, was having a hard time getting him to walk with me without invading other dogs space walking by. It has been a struggle but I see the progress for both of us. By having more confidence and being calm while I lead him .

Brilliant watching you work, Tom. It's not just your verbal explanation but watching your confidence, body language, and how you correct has helped me so much with my GSD now 10-month pup. I'm building a better relationship with him every day through training, and finally able to get him to "Watch" me when walking by other dogs. Right now his threshold for is across the street. I hope to eventually be able to shorten that distance. He's fine at doggie daycare so I don't understand his dog reactivity, but working through by building a stronger relationship with me, structure and leadership. You have no idea how much you give to the world and us dog owners. Or maybe you do, but you should know. THANK YOU THANK YOU.

@@swapnamenon Hi. Depends what you mean by out of control. If it is only out walking, so leash pulling, lunging, barking at other dogs, I would use a Black Dog (that is the brand) halter. If he is out of control period, then you need to look at your basic training, what rules, boundaries and limitations are you enforcing at home. If you can't control him at home, you really shouldn't be taking him out at all.

Sally Kellerman , thank u so much for replying. Oggie barks at every dog otw when v r out, lunges at cars that pass by, doesn’t listen to simple commands like sit or stay. I had even taken him to a puppy school. I feel terrible coz I feel like I’ve spoilt him silly. He bullies every body at home when he wants to play or to get a treat. I don’t know if that qualifies to out of control behavior. But I find it v embarrassing when I have guests over coz he jumps on them, esp kids and I can’t control him. I am thinking of getting a Rogz obedience collar, so at least I can get some sense of control when we are out of the house. I worry about his as well as the safety of other dogs. Plz help

Thanks for this video! ...our female GSD not only looks exactly like Pepper, she acts this same way when she sees dogs while on leash. Trainers and behavioral specialists that we have dealt with told us to distract her with food, click for attention, desensitize by standing far away getting food while looking at dogs as long as she’s not reacting, etc. with no improvement. Watching your videos has been eye opening and incredibly helpful!

it was nice to see you using german shepherds. I have a 7 month old german shepherd puppy. My problem is getting Trixie socialized she is a shy dog. Im the only person she sees and is very protective. I have no other person in the home. But watching your videos has helped.

I think many people don't realized that this is basically the same situation as if someone is ready for a freak out and unleash frustration into screaming. And allowing them to do the freak out doesn't help. And is unfair to everyone around to endure this kind of behavior.
And having someone that can interrupt that is a great help. This is not only slapping them in the face. It is snapping them out of stupidity, hold their hands and guide them.
