Surviving Portuguese Portions😬 Caldeirada Feast in Peniche🇵🇹
Hello Amigos and Amigas🫡🇵🇹
Well, Portugal keeps us full, and today was no exception😄
In this video, we visit the beautiful coastal town of Peniche and enjoy a traditional Portuguese meal at the restaurant A Sardinha. We started with some classic Portuguese starters, including octopus salad, queijo fresco (a soft fresh cheese), olives, and a flavorful shrimp and fish pâté with warm bread. Each bite was packed with authentic local flavors, and most importantly, all was fresh. Respect!
For the main dish, we tried Caldeirada, a Portuguese fish stew made with fresh seafood, vegetables, and aromatic spices-a perfect dish for seafood lovers. The portion was so large we couldn't finish it.
To end the meal, we tried some local desserts: the famous Grandma's cake and another traditional sweet from Peniche. I don't know the name yet😂 Both were the perfect way to wrap up the feast.
Enough talking, enjoy the video! 🙂🇵🇹🇱🇻

As you can see, we're all anxious to be able to travel with you thru out portugal in 25. For a small country, it has many hidden treasures. When in Peniche, head next door to Lourinhã and check out the Dinosaur Park.
Big plans for this channel in 2025 🇵🇹 We've been to Lourinhã plenty of times, but never made it to Dinosaur Park; only my daughter was there with school. But plenty of dinosaurs in Lourinhã itself 😁
Viseu is a charming city. Cantinho do Alex restaurant is on my list! The aguardente is better than in Lourinhã? I'll see it for myself when I visit this spring. Haha

LEGEND OF THE STONE Soup A monk was travelling through the country and when he arrived in a small village, tired and hungry, with nothing but a pot and a stone, he decided to put his creativity to good use. He went to the first houses in the village and knocked on the villagers' doors. As soon as they opened the first door, he asked in a cheerful tone for some hot water to make a delicious stone soup. The villagers were so curious that they gave him the water and the monk put the stone in the pot and started to stir, but when they found the monk strange, they went to call the neighbours. While the soup was "boiling", he mentioned aloud that the soup would be even better if it had a little salt in it. Another villager brought the salt. Then he said that the soup would taste even better with potatoes, so another villager brought potatoes. This process was repeated with all the other ingredients: Onions, garlic, bay leaves, carrots, beans, white wine and even pork and chorizo. And so the soup continued to be prepared until it was ready and all the villagers gathered to share the food. hey were amazed at the flavour and later realised that the soup was not made from stone, but from everyone's generosity and contribution. MORAL OF THE STORY The legend of the Stone Soup aims to teach us about the importance of sharing, co-operation and creativity. It shows us how, through collaboration between everyone, in this case a community, it is possible to turn something simple into something extraordinary. This story not only highlights the richness of Portuguese culture, but also emphasises the values of community and generosity.
Wow...good thought in the end! 💯 With everybody's contribution, people can make great things🫡 Thank you for sharing the story and happy holidays!🎄

Why didn’t you just ask the waiter about the fish you were wondering about?
I remember when i was young i use to see publicity of Sintra in the Yellow National Geografic magazine, this was probably in the 70th and 80th of last century. I remember thinking what was there in Sintra só worth while. Now i can understand. I still have the magazines.

(Repost) Man, you eat too much bread! It's kind of risky when you don't know the size of the main dish, especially in a traditional restaurant. 😄 5:07 - That looks nothing like shrimp paté and do you know why? Because I don't think such a thing exists.I think it was just tuna paté. 8:35 - Judging by the big round bone in the middle, I'd say it's "Cação". Linguee says it's "Suņu pīles" or "Dogfis" in Latvian but it might be wrong. 🙂 10:45 - As others already said, that's Raia (Ray in English, I couldn't find a translation to Latvian). 13:30 - That's "Pescada" (Heikss in Latvian). 20:00 - Those can be called "Filhós" or "Sonhos", depending on the region, and the orange colour comes from being made with pumpkin. Typically, they're called "Sonhos" and "Filhós" are made in a different way but in the regions where they call them that, they usually call them "Filhós de Abóbora" ("Abóbora" is pumpkin) to distinguish from the normal "Filhós".
@@module79l28 Ha ha! 😁 Too much bread? Explaining… When we sat down, the waiter brought us all starters as usual. Usually, I send them away, but when I saw queijo fresco and salada de polvo, I couldn't resist. 😁😁😁 About the shrimp pâté, my wife asked the waiter what it was. He said something about shrimp, rather vaguely, so we assumed it contained shrimp. But the taste was like tuna pâté with little pieces, maybe delicias do mar, or what we call crab sticks in Latvia😄 Cação is the fish you recommended before if I remember correctly, from shark family and your translater app mixed it badly, because "suņu pīles" is dog ducks 😂 But sounds cool 😁😁😁 Raia in Latvian is Raja and we have also person name Raja, my neighbour 😁 From all fishes I think Raia was my favorite. And for dessert, sonhos-a good find! But as someone else said, they should be eaten fairly quickly after frying. Thank you amigo for all info, as always 🫡
@@millionplacesoneworld - Yeah, I should've known better than to rely on online translators. What's funny is that it shows "dogfish" as the translation of "Cação" to Latvian, which is the same as the English translation, that's why I chose the one that looked more like a latvian word. Oh well, at least I made the effort of trying to use your native language. 🙂 About the "Sonhos": the person who said that probably never ate them on Christmas Day morning with coffee. I'll leave it at that. 😉 I don't know if your wife cooks (or you, for that matter) but the "Sonhos" don't have many ingredients, are rather easy to make and there are countless recipes online.
I use a translator a lot from English to Portuguese, and there must be many funny comments from my side 😂. With Latvian, it is usually even worse, because how many people speak Latvian worldwide? Maybe 1.5 million, not more, and relatively, the translators are at a very basic level 😁 About sonhos, we both cook at home, but not so much pastries, etc. This Christmas we are actively moving to Leiria, so let's leave baking for another year 😄
"sonhos" or dreams in English are squash fritters. They are delicious. Especially when eaten right after they were removed from the frying pan. You guys are hilarious together...in a good way!
@josephrego2527 Thank you🫡 Regarding "sonhos"-these were really good, so I think they were fresh from the pan, like you mentioned 🙂👍
