Today we are in the city, one of the oldest cities in Portugal - Coimbra.

Coimbra is university city. University is one of the oldest in Europe and the largest in Portugal, founded in 1290.
Coimbra is one of the oldest cities in the country and interesting - it was the capital of Portugal before Lisbon, until 1255.
It is considered one of the most important Portuguese cities, due to the infrastructure and companies located here and also because of the history of the place.
Because of university city is also attractive for younger generation, because the city's student population is around 37,000.
Coimbra also was the National Capital of Culture in 2003 and in 2013, the University of Coimbra, Alta and Sofia was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Coimbra was the birthplace of six kings of Portugal, from the First Dynasty , as well as the first University in the country. City of narrow streets, courtyards, staircases and medieval arches.
Since the mid 16th century , the city's history has revolved around the history of the University of Coimbra , and in the 19th century the city began to expand beyond its walls, which actually disappeared with renovations.

I'm from Coimbra and want to congratulate you on the amazing video footage you've made!
Thank you, appreciate 🙂💯
17:10 - The fact that it was empty might have more to do with the time and the day than the restaurant's "rating". On week days, and before 8:30PM, the restaurants are not usually busy. 🙂
You liked Figueira da Foz and you liked Coimbra, you can have the city life and a beach not far from each other. If I were you I wouldn't think twice but I'm biased because I'm from Figueira da Foz and I studied in Coimbra university. 😉
I was at restaurant at 7PM, later on people started to show up 👌
Agree about Figueira and Coimbra, I would want to live in Figueira and then if I need city or bacalhau - go to Coimbra 😁
Thank you for comment 🫡
I live in Santa clara, born in Coimbra, thank you for coming!
Love this place🤎 how Coimbra is in summer and is there river beaches close to the city? 🫡
Thank you for your comment!
Olá Boa Noite Andrejs,
Great to see back!! I believe that Figueira da Foz is pretty much right in the middle between Lisboa and Porto... (better math, LOL). Loving all the drone shots... Interesting mixes of music... enjoying it. I do enjoy watching you make friends with locals. It's very endearing. You really enjoy your food. I think the cod strips sound delicious! Obrigada Amigo.
Olá Jen, Bom dia 😉
I was saying in the middle because I found that info online, then looked at the map and realized it's bit off the middle 😄😄😄
Locals in Coimbra, very friendly and easy to communicate, loved that 💯
From now on, will not take so long breaks between videos so see you soon 🖐 Obrigado👍
ĻOti skaista pilsēta. Un viss tik tīrs! Padies operatoram un viņa lidojošam draugam. Mājas ļoti smukas.
Paldies 👍😎 Cenšos priekš Jums 😁
❤
It's amazing to see you in Coimbra, eating the traditional portuguese dish cod...😊
I finally made it back to my home country last year, after 50 years away, but I only went to Lisbon and Porto. Next time I will definitely have to go to Coimbra, and try the bacalhau strips at Solar do Bacalhau. Great video and great editing, something I need to work on.
Yeah, definitely visit Coimbra, but so many more places to enjoy here. As I was saying 100s and 100s of times - Portugal surprises me on every corner. Love this country 🇵🇹
Thank you for your comment and see you in Portugal 🖐
I have to go visit soon. Thank you.
Hey! Place is worth a visit 100%, will not regret it 🫡 Thank you for comment 👍
Urā! Sagaidījām!👏👏👏
Yeee, tagad būs biežāk 😄 Paldies!💯
We visited Coimbra twice with many nice memories. We love the building at 9:03. I recall it very well. The riverfront is a big asset for living in our opinion as the old upper town is too hilly for us (we took a cab to the university and walked down!). We didn’t visit the botanical gardens, university library, Santa Clara or other residential areas as we always run out of time. We also understand students can be rowdy during certain times of the year but is limited to the old upper town.
We’ll definitely try bacalau in Coimbra next time.
I wish we had sen your video before our last trip to Coimbra. Obrigado Andres. 🙏🏻
Hey 🖐 On riverfront there is couple good and new apartment blocks, upper part can get bit rough in some parts, noticed some houses completely covered in mold 😬 Not sure how it is to live in them, but for city contrast I like them 💯
As I was saying in my previous episodes for me - vibe is very important and I can say for sure, Coimbra feels friendly and welcoming. Enjoyed my stay there.
I was more on center side, so did not explore Santa Clara part, I was driving by it and it was more modern I think from first look.
When you visit Coimbra again, go to this restaurant, there is one in Lisbon, but I checked it on google and it looks nothing like this.
Have a great week and see you soon 🫡🇵🇹
And forgot to mention about students, local told me that apartments for rent can be a problem, since a lot of students come from different parts of Portugal and of course they need apartments/rooms where to live👌
@@millionplacesoneworld Yes. That’s my understanding too. 🫡
Ļoti skaistiiii!
Skaisti un garšīgi, vēl viena vieta kas bija pārsteigums 😎 Paldies par komentāru 🤎
Ņammīgi izskatās tas bakaljauuu😊
Best fish on the planet earth 👌🇵🇹😁
Jaa. Jau skatoties, siekalas tek❤
THE SAO JOANINA LIBRARY IS UNIQUE, THE VERY OLD BOOKS ARE PROTECTED BY BATS! AND NOT BY CHEMICALS!
Wow, this is interesting, thank you for info 👍 On this day University was packed with tourists, that's why I skipped. Obrigado 👍💯
Amazing Video Mate keep the good work and Obrigado
Thank you, I try my best 🫡🇵🇹
Excellent. That bacalhau looked 🤌🏻
Hey bro, it was 💯 Best in my life 😎
Bacalhau goes with a nice fresh white wine, not with caipirinha kkkk. It is an heresy!
Agree if we do everything by the book 😄 But it was not the day for wine 🫡 Thank you for your comment 👍
The restaurants you go are empty because you eat too early We eat dinner after 8.30 pm or 10 pm 😂😂😂
Hahaa...I always can't wait 7 for restaurants to open and I'm the first always 😁
@@millionplacesoneworld as tourists we have to adapt to the country and follow the rules the same way we follow thr rules and culture of our own country. I had to Change my way of living and meals time when I lived in Norway. There, dinner is at 4 pm and they skip lunch. I was hungry too because I used to have lunch 🤣🤣
@@mariateixeira9769 I mostly eat once a day, that's why 7pm is very far for me 😁 It's good that pastelarias are open before that 😂
@@millionplacesoneworld you eat once a day? Good diet I cant 🤣🤣
@@mariateixeira9769 For me problem is that I like to eat a lot, no matter if I eat 1,2 or 5 times a day 😁 So I'm limiting myself only for one meal, sometimes 2 😁😁
