Today we are in Figueira da Foz, which translates as fig tree🇵🇹 Not 100% sure why, if you know drop in the comments 😁
This is definitely hidden gem once again, I never heard of this place before and now - here I am to see this part of Portugal.
It is located in the district of Coimbra about 2 hours ride from Lisbon, plus minus 200 km. Region - central Portugal. Coimbra I think is 40 km from here.
Figueira da Foz is both city and municipality. Area of munucipality is 379.05 km2 and population 58,982. We can breathe here.
It is next to the Atlantic Ocean, next to the mouth of Mondego river.
Figueira do Foz is also home for a Casino, oldest casino in Portugal. Nowadays, it has daily shows, game rooms, bars and traditional Portuguese food restaurants and is still one the greatest entertainment centres in Figueira da Foz at night, along with its wide variety of bars, clubs and terraces.
Main activities in the region are fishing, tourism, agriculture(mostly rice production), salt production and many other. Busy area with a lot of things going on.
And of course beaches, Figueira do Foz offers 34 km of spectactular beaches. Wow...

My parents would take me to Figueira da Foz for vacations in the summer when i was a kid.
Buarcos is next to Praia. da Figueira da Foz.
Oh yea, that is a picture ..azulejos …of OXEN pulling in the fishing nets …..when i was a kid…

The art of fishing from the beach with small wooden boats which used to be pushed in and pulled out of the ocean by OXEN.
The net was also pulled out by the oxen.
It is GONE…
Today, you might find a boat in Praia de Mira…a few miles up North from Figueira…
BUT, they use tractors to pull the boat(s) in and push it out and to pull the net in.
EVERYTHING HAS AN END.
But, I have good memories of those days.
You are so true about - Everything has an end.👌 But for me, getting to know Portugal, its history, and how people lived back then is priceless. I love this country so, so much🇵🇹

That was refreshing! I've not seen too many videos on Figuera da Foz (Mouth of the Fig), but the one I did see cannot compare to this! It really does look like a lovely area... I agree with you (as I often seem to) - I think I could live in the town and back streets... quaint, typically Portuguese and really pretty architecture!
I had a good laugh when you showed the little boy statue, ha ha.
I must say though, my first thoughts... I love my cliffs and more rugged coastline. Miles of flat beaches don't really do it for me. Just my preference. But, I most definitely will check it out and tell them you sent me. The food at the Irish pub looked delicious.

About Figueira da Foz, it has also cliff part, but yeah it's more on the flat side. Now when it's empty it looked surreal, just to walk there. In summer I think it will be bit more people 😁😁😁
Food in Irish Pub was exceptional and it was my first meal of the day, that made it even 11 out of 10 😅
All in all Figueira is worth visiting 💯

Figueira is almost exactly half way between Peniche and Porto. I would drive up there for a delicious Irish pub lunch, and to explore this pretty place! Obrigada for all your terrific videos! See you next year… keep on growing! Ciao
Yesterday I looked on the map and that's how I came up with title of the video. Because I thought it is like closer to the end of Silver coast, but no, it is in the middle 😉👍

the name of Figueira da Foz is due to an old legend of a Fig tree where all the fisherman tied up the boats. Foz means the area where the river meets the sea@@millionplacesoneworld

This beach is quiaios, next to Figueira to the north. One of my favorite beach. Quaios and murtinheira are de same beach

There are people on figueira and Buarcos. Murtinheira and Quiaios are more calm
More calm in the summer than figueira

There was once a huge Fig Tree at the mouth of the Mondego river.

Hello, great video again! One thing though, that waiter in my opinion, give you a wrong information. There is no difference between Prego and Bitoque really; they both with cow meat. The only difference is Bitoque is always served in a dish and a Prego can be served with bread as a sandwich or in a dish. Every restaurante can have different ways of cooking this dishes, so sometimes there is diference between them, but its up to the restaurant. Yet its true that the Bitoque can also be cooked with pig meat but thats quite recent fashion lol. The Bitoque denomination is more used in central and south Portugal, here in North we more to Pregos lol.
That's what I thought, because in the past I think I ate bitoque and it was beef 🤔 Thank you for clarification, I'm getting smarter everyday thanks comments like yours 👍💯
Thank you! Glad I got to see your video of it and it does not disappoint. Looks amazing but maybe a bit too modern buildings for me to live? Will see, but so many positives! Buarcos is where I've been looking....rents are affordable from what I've seen. Another place which looks awesome nearby is Sao Martinho Do Porto (hr or so south) but not as much infrastructure for long term living maybe? Thanks Andrejs! Drone footage from around the lighthouse is beautiful, too! Will arrive in Cascais with son in a few days! Then we go up to Nazare (never been there) and some beach stops between and then on way back my favorite - Ericeira... have to show him that town! Then we spend a few days in Lisbon so he can see the city. Keep up the wonderful videos please. Happy New Year!

About Buarcos, it had more old feel than center of Figueira da Foz, but for me it is the same place, since it's so easy to walk from place to place. If you are considering living here, it is an option for sure, rents are much more affordable than in Cascais and Lisbon side. I recommend you to check it out, because I loved it. Other place you mentioned, I've never been there, so it's hard to tell.

I have 2 favorite in Cascais, one is in Marina - Marisco na Praca(upstairs Marina), because there you can order from fresh sea food from ice display(not sure how it's called in English) and they will cook it for you 👍 It can get expensive if you go overboard, but it's good. And second one I like, it is next to the center and not far away from fort - Baia do Peixe, they have cold sea food platters and also warm etc. Hope this helps and enjoy your trip 🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹😉
Sounds great....Sao Martinho do Porto is not far from Peniche and on a protected bay....and there's a walkway to the sister town Salir Do Porto I think (?) with a large sand dune. Known as a summer place by the Portuguese but I'm told another hidden gem. Thanks...we will stop there on way to Nazare and also Santa Cruz beach which is the beach town at Torres Vedres. Sill stay several weeks in Ericeira as I love that place! @@millionplacesoneworld
