  • Hello Amigos and Amigas in this beautiful day 🫡
After longer break we are visiting Algarve in Portugal🇵🇹 We were surprised about rich history and beauty of this city.
    Fact dose about the place:
Tavira is a Portuguese city in the district of Faro , region and subregion of the Algarve , with around 15,000 inhabitants. It is located in eastern Algarve. It is also municipality with area 606.97km2 and 27,524 inhabitants subdivided into 6 parishes.
It's known for its charming architecture, including whitewashed buildings and narrow cobblestone streets.
One of the town's highlights is the Tavira Castle, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. Well...it's bit touristy for me.
Tavira is often called the "Venice of the Algarve" due to its many bridges spanning the Gilão River.
You can explore the Roman Bridge, a historic landmark dating back to the 2nd century.
The city is home to numerous churches, including the impressive Tavira Cathedral, known for its intricate carvings and decorative tiles.
Tavira boasts beautiful beaches, such as Praia do Barril, known for its golden sands and clear waters. We tried to find it, but weather had different plans.
The nearby Ria Formosa Natural Park is a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts, with diverse ecosystems to explore.
Tavira is famous for its traditional cuisine, including fresh seafood dishes like grilled sardines and octopus salad.
The city hosts several festivals throughout the year, including the Feira da Dieta Mediterrânica, celebrating Mediterranean cuisine and culture.
You can also take a boat trip to explore the nearby islands, such as Ilha de Tavira, known for its beaches and tranquil atmosphere.
Tavira's historic center is filled with cafes, shops, and art galleries.
The town's Moorish influence can be seen in its architecture.
Tavira is home to a number of cultural attractions, including the Municipal Museum and the Casa das Artes, showcasing local artwork and crafts. We left these for next time.
Golf enthusiasts will find several top-notch courses in the area, including the Benamor Golf Resort and the Quinta de Cima Golf Course.
The city's rich history can be explored at sites like the Tavira Islamic Museum, which showcases artifacts from the region's Moorish past.
Tavira is a popular destination for outdoor activities, including hiking, cycling, and kayaking along the scenic coastline.
We noticed laid-back atmosphere in the city, even with tourists.
If you want to move here:
Real estate average price for buying is 3650 Euros per square meter and long term rent 16 euros per square meter per month. Bit on expensive side.
So enjoy this episode and of course if you are new to the channel consider subscribing, because we are exploring every place in Portugal!

Yeah I touch down in Lisbon Airport. My sisters are flying down same day from the US to help me find an apartment. She wants me to stay in Lisbon but I kind of like the Silver Coast so I'm at two minds where to go. Lisbon property is really expensive and too much tourists but It's better to start a business. But Silver coast is pure Heaven on Earth :) Viseu is my favourite so far.@@millionplacesoneworld

You reached my favorite town in PT! I was surprised you visited since you appear to be focused on the Silver Coast. We visited Tavira three times (mostly off-season) and loved it. We’ll try the two restaurants you noted on our next trip.
The biggest disadvantages we can see about Tavira are: (1) lack of yearlong apartment rental availability since locals make lots of money renting to tourists in summer 😢, (2) prices are higher than Silver Coast (as you mentioned), and (3) lack of a major hospital-which is very important for an old guy like me. 😂 We agree Tavira is lively even during off-season. Anyone should visit during summer peak to see how it is at that time before moving there.
Notes: The current food market was across the street from your hotel-not the older one which you visited along to the river. The area at approximately 25:00 are salt flats. They say the salt there is very good but I never tried it. 🤷 You also mentioned you couldn’t find the beach? You can get there by ferry which leaves from the river very close to the old market that you visited.
    Cheers.

Hey 🖐 Yeah the goal is to visit every corner in Portugal, Silver coast just happens to be my favorite 😄 Gets more attention than the rest of the Portugal 🇵🇹
Thank you for info about salt flats(I saw similar in Aveiro, but these looked bit different, so I was confused).
Beach for another day, weather was to bad and did not help 🌧
Good point about hospital, I will try to include this topic in my next episodes, because it's important for everybody🫡
      See ya!

I don't go to Algarve in the summer. I go to FFoz. If you like to Algarve try to go to Olhão( it is near Tavira) take the boat and go to ilha/praia da Fuzeta, ilha/ praia da Culatra or ilha deserta. They are beautiful and I suppose there is not so many people because they are islands.

    Warning: long text!
Tavira brings good and bad memories: the good memories are that it was less touristy and more relaxed than the previous year (2002) when we went to Lagos but the bad memories almost overshadowed the good ones. We went there for a week in August 2003, the year when the climate changes really started to make their impact on Portugal. There are some high temperature recorded in that month that haven't been beaten yet.
It was overcast when we left Torres Novas, we caught rain and thunderstorms during the trip, when we arrived there in the afternoon it was scorching hot and by dinner time half of the country was on fire. One of the bigger ones, caused by a lightning from the thunderstorm I mentioned above, raged uncontrolled alongside the Tejo river from Vale de Cavalos (a village near Chamusca) all the way to Abrantes, where the fire was raging so strong that it managed to cross the river.
The hotel where we stayed was nice, near the centre, and we could walk pretty much everywhere in the city but we had to drive to go to the beaches and everyday it was a struggle to find a place to park. The first few days were so hot that we could barely stand in the Sun and had to be either in the water or in the shade of the umbrella. During those days, when we returned from the beach late in the afternoon the temperature was still around 30ºC and before 9 o'clock in the morning of the following day it was still over 25ºC inside the car, despite it being parked in the hotel's underground car park during the night.
During the return trip, around 30kms from home, the car's blower stopped working, I couldn't get any cold air from the A/C, I had to drive those last kms with the Sun beating down on my side of the car. Opening the windows was even worse because of the hot air that was coming in and when I arrived home I was dizzy, shaking like if I was freezing, breathing heavily and almost fainted twice going up the stairs. Later I found out it must've been a Sun stroke.
I really liked the city but this sequence of events kind of ruined the experience.
    Sorry for the long text.

    • @millionplacesoneworld
      @millionplacesoneworld  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Wow...it sounds crazy and only 2 things about what I am afraid in Portugal is 1755 and fires. 2003 sounds bad and sooner or later it will happen again 😬 My dream is to buy land and build house, when I look for properties I look for plots without forest nearby for exact same reason and not directly on the coast.
Thank you for sharing this, for me it's really interesting to hear about Portugal from different times.👍👍👍
P.s. We did not made it to Torres Novas, since E-ann asked to confirm drone flight with heliport/airport before taking the flight, but it is still on ToDoList 🫡

    • @module79l28
      @module79l28 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@millionplacesoneworld - Yeah, 2003 was really the turning point. We went to Porto Covo in 1999 and to Lagos in 2000 and 2001, everytime in late July, early August, in a car with no A/C and I've never felt the need for it, either while crossing the Alentejo or during the stay in those places.
There's an heliport in the hospital but it has never been used since the hospital was built 30 years ago and the nearest airport is in Lisbon. What the hell is the AAN talking about?
