    Today we are visiting another city in Algarve - Lagos🇵🇹
    I will tell you that, I'm in love with Silver Coast, soooo...is this place for me? Watch the video 😄😄😄
    Fact dose:
    Lagos is a city in Portugal, located in the Algarve region, with about 27,949 people. The municipality has an area of 212.99 square kilometers and 33,583 residents, divided into 4 parishes. It's bordered by Monchique, Portimão, Vila do Bispo, Aljezur, and the Atlantic Ocean.
    Lagos has a rich history connected to the Portuguese Discoveries. Today, it's a popular tourist destination in the Algarve, known for its beaches, cultural heritage, and nightlife. Most people live outside the historic center, working in services and tourism.
    The historic center is pedestrian-friendly, offering various shops, restaurants, bars, and cafes. In 2012, TripAdvisor ranked Lagos as the top growing destination.
    In 1755, a tsunami struck Lagos, leading to the capital's temporary move to Loulé and then Faro.
    During the 19th century, Lagos was involved in French Invasions and the Portuguese Civil War. It regained economic importance with the introduction of industries, but main activity is tourism. Since the Second World War, tourism has become the main economic activity. Lagos offers various accommodation options, including hotels, hostels, villas, campsites, and caravan sites.
    In recent decades, Lagos has seen rapid changes, including the renovation of the historic center and the development of new residential areas, facilities, marina, hotels, and administrative buildings.
    Real estate prices in Lagos are around 4600 euros per square meter for buying, while long-term rent is approximately 17 euros per square meter per month. [Internet]

    I remember Lagos, I took my kids when they were young to a nice zoo there. Another fantastic video bro. More Ice Cream :)

      When were you in Lagos last time? I should've known about Zoo so I could take my daughter. Well...now It's the reason to go back 💯

      @@millionplacesoneworld Hey man, no problem. Yeah, there is a one of the biggest zoos in Portugal there. Really good to take the kids out for the day. I went about 2014, it was great fun, you need to check it out bro it's very good.

      @@millionplacesoneworld Oh And I forgot to mention, very close to the zoo there is a place that is also good for the kids. Sculptures made of sand. Really nice for kids also. My kids had a great time.

      @@BeYourselfMan Nice, just looked up, looks like good one 👍 Sooner or later will go back to Algarve, since I've seen only Lagos, Tavira, Sagres and Albufeira for now 🇵🇹

    That was pretty quiet for Lagos, the square with the statue of Dom Sebastiao gets full of people watching street entertainers. I also find it a little overwhelming. The science museum is meant to be nice for kids though. As you go uphill from the square with the building with the green tiles you get some more interesting shops. The areas outside the old walls are less touristy and more like normal districts, there is another market and a small producers market by the bus station so a lot of residents dont need to go to the old town that often so it can be only visitors there. The zoo is in barao de sao joao and there are also walking trails in the woods there, one of them is a sculpture trail. The wind never really stops in Lagos, which does make it cooler in the summer.

      Thank you for all of the information. I think when I go next time, I will look for places other than the city center because you make Lagos sound more like my preference. Definitely the Zoo is on the list, the Sculpture Park, and now also the Science Museum. 👍👍👍

    If you are still in Algarve, I've hear Loule is a very nice livable city; less touristy and lots of artists, etc and I believe a lovely weekly or bi weekly market....off the coast a bit.

      @millionplacesoneworld  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, we went away already, next trip to Algarve will be to off-coast Algarve, so Loulé is on the list 👍 Thank you 🇵🇹🫡

      @@millionplacesoneworld I think East Algarve (coastal) is more laid back quiet like you experienced in Tavira. I will see it. As for Costa Da Caparica which I mentioned....it's way too crowded on weekends....or it was getting that way in Feb-- but during the week it's laid back and my reason for loving it there is not anything special about the town really, it's the cliffs in the background and the long expansive beach to walk...watching the surfers, very affordable and lots of beach view accommodations for a vacation. But probably not a place to search to live.

    • @millionplacesoneworld
      @millionplacesoneworld  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@bh8138 For living only Silver coast, at least for me and my family, we need to be close to Cascais because of the school for now and going over the bridges in the morning and noon is nightmare 👌 But we already want to go to Costa Caparica for a beach day, waiting for warmer weather😄
      Next time in Algarve I will skip everything on the coast what is touristy, not sure how it is in Faro and Portimão, since those are big cities. I don't mind people, but when most of them are locals, like Coimbra, Viseu, Figueira, Mafra, of course tourists are everywhere, including me, but in Lagos it felt like 80% were tourists, 10% workers from different countries and 10% locals, if you know what I mean 😁

    Watching this makes me miss the Algarves. This is why people need to visit different areas of Portugal before settling on a place. I visited the Lourinha, Peniche, Caldas da Rainha area and loved the nature but was bored out of my mind most of the time. The Algarves fits me best for daily life.

    • @millionplacesoneworld
      @millionplacesoneworld  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Exactly...I understand that many people love the Algarve (including me-Tavira, Sagres, and other places I still need to see), but I personally would choose Lourinhã, Peniche, etc., for my daily life.
      Thanks, man, for your point of view, always good to hear different sides👍🇵🇹

    Thanks for this video. 👍🏻
    We’ve never been to Lagos so I appreciate your review. I’ve stayed away mostly based on what I heard about tourists-and you visited in early April (I guess). Can’t imagine what it’s like in the summer (tourists and temperature). 🥵 We didn’t mind Tavira in early Spring and Fall but haven’t been during the summer either. 🤷 Would you say Lagos has more tourists than Tavira? 🤔
    Cheers. 👋🏻

      Hey 🖐 Thank you for comment 🫡
      Okay...I will explain my viewpoint about both places. We visited Tavira on 25th, and Lagos on 27th of March, so at the same time. First to Tavira - yeah we saw tourists, but the feeling was really relaxed, together with beautiful buildings, river and welcoming atmosphere. That's what I was surprised about and also said - I like Tavira. We really enjoyed our stay there👍 Then we went to Lagos, from the first moments I started to feel anxious, because pace of life there felt much more faster and like tourist focused. Historic center was very busy and I sensed something is off. I cannot explain it, but I was not loving it. Probably for younger, single people Lagos is more suitable than me 😁 I hope I make sense and you get my point. As I mentioned before, I don't mind busy cities etc. but I want to feel more local life, local culture. I felt it in Tavira, not in Lagos. Don't want to imagine it in summer 😬

    Yes, we feel the same about Lagos and Albufeira. We avoid them, as there are many better areas to visit.
    Praia da Falesia has been voted best beach many times for a reason - visit Pine Cliffs resort and take the drone - they let you walk around, even if not a guest and you can get a membership to their facilities, if you live nearby.

      Hi there! Good to hear from you again. 👍
      Wow, I just looked up Praia da Falésia, and it's truly impressive, with cliffs and quite a stretch of beach area. 👍 When we revisit the Algarve, it will definitely be on our to-do list. 🇵🇹

      I don’t know what happened to my reply, but in case you didn’t see it, Armação de Pêra has a classic car show on the first Sunday of the month, from 10-1 at the jardim do minigolf.
      The town is an old fishing village where local Portuguese live and vacation. Many places do not speak English, but some restaurants do.
      If you go, eat at:
      -Tasca’lado (and be sure to get the passion fruit sangria!)
      -Olivalmar (ocean front, fresh seafood, make reservations)
      -OK Burger Algarve- the best burgers from the friendliest couple from Brazil
      Have fun! 🙌🏽

      @@millionplacesoneworld Anytime! There are no good videos on TH-cam of a lot of great places to visit in Portugal, so we love that you guys are traveling all over and recording your experiences for others to see!
      Some of our favorites in the north, if you go that far:
      - Chaves- be sure to check out the carvings on the columns of the Roman bridge!
      - Parque National Peneda-Gerês - best forest in Portugal! (stay at Quinta do Bento in Soengas and order dinner there - amazing view and food! The wonderful owner checks you in and takes your dinner order at the same time (no English).
      -Monção - walk along the fort and down by the river, eat in the main square; if you don’t like crowds, avoid during the Alvarinho wine festival
      -Valença - explore the fort, which has shops and restaurants, sometimes there are events, and is popular with the Spanish
      - Caminha - medieval village with clock tower and a great view to Spain
      Ok, just a few! Can’t wait to see where you guys go next!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

      @UnluckyPlant Thank you for your kind words 👍 That's the goal, to see and show every part of Portugal, because most videos here on TH-cam are about Porto and Lisbon 🇵🇹
      I'm saving all the information you provide, but until summer break at school, we will not get too far north. We plan a 2-3 week trip in the summer months, that's when we will cover that part 👌 And still, I think a couple of years are needed to explore at least half of Portugal (and there are islands on the list), so much to do 😄😄😄🇵🇹
