    Well-thought-out video. Thanks for your time and effort in producing these. Did you cover servicing the watch? I’d imagine the oils/lubricants within the movement would be thicker due to the cold weather, necessitating regular servicing, no?

      @cheynewalls 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@drlawyc like on touched on in the video if you had multiple watches you’d be in better shape. Parts and the oils wear down with use, so if you limit use and spread out the punishment you will increase longevity. Higher-end timepieces like Rolex have some of the best and toughest lubricants that don’t change consistency with fluctuations in temperatures. Cheers

    The reason why I'm not like so much th Explorer II 226570 is that I own an Explorer II - 1655 reference. And the comparison is pitiful, it's clearly a stylistic involution. If Rolex 1655 had never existed Explorer II 226570 would be very cool in my opinion.

    LOVE content like this. Cheyne, funnily enough I actually asked this very same question a couple yrs ago to the guys on About Effing Time and they had answered it on their podcast. Its a really interesting question to ponder tbh because it really makes you think about different things you normally wouldn't and I wonder if it changes peoples choice of what their daily driver would be. My choices: White dial Seamaster 300m Professional OR the Explorer II 5-digit but with the 3186 movement. BTW - Tim Mosso also does a phenomenal Collector Conversation with that very same Navy Seal (Rob Huberty)! One of my absolute FAVE collector convo's on youtube.

    Hi Cheyne, great video again. Well, estimating that no apocalypse lasts forever, I think we don't have to worry about necessary batterie changes on quartz watches or services on automatic watches. More interesting is what we are expecting from the apocalypse. First I really would prefer an automatic watch with a high magnetic resistance. A Mudmaster is a great watch, but hit by an electromagnetic impulse for example you can forget it. So let's estimate the apocalypse during 4-5 years maximum. The accuracy and antimagnetism of our ROLEX and OMEGA will lead us professionally through the dark years. An then there is the question if we expect lot of water and lot of movements in rough water or if we are expecting more time in permanently dark. I go with your choice, the SUB. But in the dark, under the earth for example I would prefer our Explorer II - hoping that 100 meters of WR will be enough! PROST! 🙂

    I get it, but after 15 to 20 years of daily use the movement will probably not be accurate at all and “realistically “ I will not know how to service it and will not be able to get 5 subs delivered to me in time before all hell breaks loose. Surely a solar watch like a Tag Heuer aquaracer solargraph or any other high quality solar quartz would last. Even if in crazy cold , you would be able to recharge it from dead. Even my garmin instinct charges from dead. It would be always on your wrist warming it up and on sunny days just leave it outside for a whole day and it would have a charge for 6 months. Even if battery loses its capacity slowly over time you will always have a day of sunlight to top it up. Not sure. You probably are right with the sub, maybe also a modern Seamaster. Maybe own a solar and a Submariner and alternate them throughout seasons, and solar with the crown out keeps the charge for a long time, and use the sunrise/sunset charts. I don’t know, what do you think?

    • @cheynewalls
      @cheynewalls 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Like I mentioned in the video that Navy Seal wore his Rolex Sea-Dweller for 12 years before it lost accuracy, so that was my base mark. Why you would need multiple watches or know how to repair your watches. From personal experience I just can't put any faith into quartz, They die all the time on me when I'm out snow camping and I've noticed once a battery goes flat, it will come back to life, but it is never the same. Charge capacity is now less and I find it dying on me more and more. Either way I would take a G-shock or quartz and use it as long as I could. Cheers

    The fact that you would put water resistance (which both watches have although at different depths)above a GMT function, when the vast majority of people will not need as much water resistance as a Submariner provides, proves to me you have no idea what you're talking about. Most people, at some point in their lives, will be out of the time zone they live in, but probably never 200 meters under water. Never mind how rare a true GMT function is compared to water resistance. Your scoring is totally ridiculous. I will not be watching any more of four videos for watch advice.

    • @cheynewalls
      @cheynewalls 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well I’m sure as you know, water resistant is a lot different than just a depth rating. Jumping into a pool puts about a rating of a 100 meter depth pressure onto a watch. Like I showed in the chart on this video. Therefore the Rolex Submariner is completely safe for 99% of water activity. I love my GMT function, but everyone today has a cell phone to help with a different time zone. That is why I rated the water resistance a bit higher.

    Interesting your movement is so consistent. I have a 2024 and it usually lives on my wrist day and night, even when I sleep. I lose about 2 seconds every 24 hours. I have noticed when I leave it face up in my watch box for 24 hours it gains around 1 second. So if I were to leave it off at night I'd probably be averaging around 1 second lost per day. It truly is a great watch overall, probably my favourite in the the Rolex line, the right blend of heritage, class and utility.

      @cheynewalls 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree, a great watch with perfect blend heritage, class and utility. Yeah that is interesting, it doesn't matter if I wear my Submariner all day, sleep with it on or put it away in my watch box over night, it's holds about 0.5 of a second to a second fast over 24 hours. Either way tho, I'm happy if it maintains the +2 -2 over 24 hours. Cheers

      @@cheynewalls sounds like you got a great movement then, I would prefer that type of consistency the way I wear mine. I think you mentioned in another video that your explorer behaves more like my Sub. Maybe it's a 2024 thing or maybe just luck of the draw 🤷‍♂️

      @@kyleh3207 Yeah, my Rolex Explorer II movement changes a little depending on how I offend I wear it. Either her way tho, great movements to be able to stay with-in +2 -2 over 24 hours. My other personal "high" horology watches (the ones I don't show on my channel) don't come close to that. Cheers

    7:28 your spot on! For the price it’s truly a do it all tool watch for any situation including most of the water activities a submariner could do. People think in the short term but 10k divided by 50 years is 17 dollars a month. It’s truly a watch you can have for life then like you said pass it on to your kids. I own 3 Rolex and the explorer II is probably specs and price wise the best Rolex with the most bang for the buck. Same movment as a gmt master II for less than a submariner

    Could you not repeat the same idea over and over? It's boring. Yes. you can wear a Rolex with a suit or swimming. We get it. The beginning of this video sounds like it's for people that have had a lobotomy. Talk faster! And stop ending all your sentences with question marks. You sound like a valley girl. Lol to you breaking the cyclops. I hope it costs a few thousand dollars to fix.

  • @WornDownCrown

    The cyclops is really functional and that’s why I don’t mind having it on any of my Rolexes. It doesn’t what it’s supposed to do and it makes the watch easier to read. DJ from GBRS group put it well when speaking about his own watches: “wear them till you break them and then get them fixed”

      Both are great watches. It really depends on the situation, As an every day watch with some adventure thrown in I would wear my Rolex Explorer 40. If I'm going on a long trip where I'll be in and out of the water, with some scuba diving thrown in I would wear my Rolex Submariner Date. Cheers
