  • Extreme accuracy test on the Rolex Submariner and Rolex Explorer II by being locked in a Brewery Icebox and then put outside into the hot sun. If these tool watches can survive this they can survive anything Nature can through at these timepieces. Over a 100 degree temperature shift, how will the Rolex Explorer II and Rolex Submariner Date fair?

    Awesome video! I wear my Explorer 125270 every single day-hiking, biking, swimming, running, snowboarding, etc. People are surprised I wear it in such tough conditions but that’s what it was made for! I’m interested to see how it keeps time as it ages, as well as when it will need servicing given the abuse it takes. Keep up the great work!

    In your previous videos you had really opened my eyes how g shock is not the most durable watch, specifically in cold. It was funny that you had first hand experience of them failing but you still had to explain in comments why is it. I think most gshock users are not in that cold environments and if they are, they have it against their skin to warm up the battery. Everybody always say g shock is the most durable watch over and over, and then you claim as "amateur" watch enthusiast with your rolexes that they are more durable than the legendary g shock. I can imagine people not being able to digest that haha. At least from now on you can just link this video😀
    You had mentioned also in previous videos that you are impressed that the rolex keeps great time regardless of the temperature. I didn't think much of that, just assumed if it's mechanical watch it will probably perform the same. So glad that you took the victorinox into this comparison, I could not believe the results. First losing time and a lot of it, then gaining time!? Very interesting.
    Awesome educational video with bit of beer silliness. Keep using your tool watches as your tool watches, I know you will!

    Valiant effort with the beers... hmmm, what to do while waiting?!! A less fun, but realistic 'extreme' exposure test would be simply 2 hours in the freezer (+/- -20'C) which is pretty representative of 'mild' Arctic/cold sub-Arctic/alpine, then using a thermos flask of hot tap water (+/- 55'C) to represent a hot car or desert environment. Severe risk of fogging though... a couple hours acclimatisation between tests is kinder and maybe while under warranty! The real advantage of Sinn Ar tech. They should take it - big temp bumps do happen - easy to bump -20'C to 20'C going from cold conditions to indoors (nightmare for cameras, eh!) and less so extreme heat to a mountain lake or aircon.

    • @cheynewalls
      @cheynewalls  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah we could have just gone from a home freezer to a hot car, but what would be the fun in that. We did get fogging on all the outside of the watch, that is why I had to keep cleaning them before putting in front of the camera. Will do this test again, as well as others like with different watches in the future. I'll be sure include a Sinn.

    Hi interesting video we have spoken before about Rolex tool watches in mountaineering and I must admit I've never taken mine mountaineering because of the value of the watch . but I didn't realise how accurate mechanical watches are in extreme conditions two uses to seeing altimeter/GPS watches in the Alps and didn't consider that's mechanical watches would be more reliable think your photo artwork is great 👍 thanks John.

    • @cheynewalls
      @cheynewalls  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good hear from you again John. Yes, that is why I go with well designed and built mechanical watches for when I'm out in the field for a week or two. I've had so many issues with battery powered watches dying on me. That being said, I do take a hand-held GPS, its bigger battery and to have the ability of insulate deep inside my backpack works best for me. Thank you for your kind words about my artwork. Cheers

      @@cheynewalls hi thanks for your reply thinking about your watch test video I wonder if you have thought about doing a shock test with mechanical watches to see if that effect the accuracy of the watch. because if you where climbing ice the repetitive motion of the ice axe might effect the accuracy? (Some ice climbs can go on for hours) If you did the test for one hour you'd probably have your answer. (Maybe use a cheaper watch?). the reason why there was pocket watches is because the watchsmith had a problem with the accuracy with excessive movement on the wrist and pocket watches we normally kept in a chest pocket. This was one of the biggest problems to do with accuracy especially on boat navigation. The modern watches have created buffers inside the watch mechanism to allow for shock but it would be interesting to see how they would get on with repeated blows as they are designed as tool watches? What do you think thanks John.

    • @cheynewalls
      @cheynewalls  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JohnBowman-ut4dz Hi John, on past video I have done wood chopping (probably similar) and have seen no effect to my Rolex mechanical watches accuracy. I would love to do ice climbing video, hopefully in the future. I'm sure the mechanical watches have their limits with shocks, but it seems if that shock naturally happens, you might have bigger issues than your watch. (Say if you took a fall or something) All that being said, I think it smart to play it safe, if you do think it might damage your watch put the watch pocket or backpack.

    I love mechanical watches but that's an unfair test since temperature extremes are a major weakness for standard quartz movements. Try comparing the two with magnetism, quartz will be fine and the mechanical watches are gonna struggle but that doesn't mean quartz is "tougher" they're just different.

    • @cheynewalls
      @cheynewalls  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are a 100% right, they are different types of watches with difference functions. I just prefer mechanical watches because I spend a lot of time out outdoors with temperature extremes and as long as they can withstand airport security magnetism I'm happy. Giving I could drop a G-Shock out of a tree onto a rock and it would be fine. I included a quartz watch in this test just because every-time I do a video like this I get about 20 comments saying I should wearing a G-Shock watch, its "tougher".
      Like you said, this test just shows the difference between mechanical & quartz.
