    I have been wearing g a Rolex Submariner of some vintage since 1968 , from my 5513 to my 124606 and every model in between. I still have them in my collection and won't ever sell any of them . I have a wide variety of different watches in my collection but I'm definitely an unashamed Submariner guy.

    Its .... irritating that so many people think everyone has a rolex in their collection. It nay be a grail for nearly all collectors, but its not one that's needed. I could be just as happy with the new tudor that came out at watches and wonders or the iwc make XX. While i understand your message, if the watch suits you, then its perfect for you.

    Just because “everyone has the Submariner” doesn’t necessarily mean that your Sub is less special. After all it is 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 watch, that Sub is the only Sub that has experienced your adventures. Be proud that you have that watch because there many people around the world who still lust over the Submariner.

    Since I’ve been into watches (roughly five years) I’ve seen more submarines and seamaster 300ms than anything other than g shocks and Apple Watches. It’s a great watch but it is very boring. I wear an explorer most days though, so I guess I’m boring as well.

    The Submariner feels boring for me, and yet a good design that does work. I think it's a victim of Rolex itself: forced fame, a tool that tragically became an expensive watch and worse, a status symbol. Conflicting feelings. Good video & great success in your gallery.

      Well my friend, I’ve bought the Omega Seamaster the ( James Bond) automatic, blue Bezel, in 2001. It’s been through the wringer with me, in tool times and luxury times. It keeps perfect time, very well made, and does everything the Rolex sub does, just without the price tag. But loved by and known through the world as an exceptional time piece. I’ll never part with it and will hand it down to one of my boys. But if you want a change in color and are seeking another piece, I would highly recommend this one, if you’re looking for variety. Can’t go wrong with a Seamaster, great video, and good luck in your work and endeavors. Cheers Matt

    Speaking generally, I think that you should wear a watch that is dialed in and specific to your style, personality, and lifestyle, not necessarily focus on what’s classic. The Submariner may be timeless and classic, but if it doesn’t actually suit you as a person, you’ll just end up looking like the people who wear Rolex just to say they wear Rolex.
    My .02 cents, if I had your kind of lifestyle, I’d go for the Explorer II, black or polar dial, instead of the dressier submariner. 👍

    • @cheynewalls
      @cheynewalls  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, wear what suits you. Now I do think the Rolex Explorer II suits me a bit better, I do have to say tho, my Submariner it the perfect fit for when I'm going back and forth between ocean diving and black tie affluence events. The polar dial Explorer II could work for this, but the Submariner just feels custom build for these exact occasions.

    12:27 In no universe are you walking into the Rolex store tomorrow and buying a submariner. They're not selling a submariner to Joe schmoe, a walk in customer without making him wait. Either he's going to need to wait (who knows how long and without any reassurance) or he's going to need to start a "relationship" (I.e. Purchase history). So these fantasies of these everyday people getting married or going on some dive trip and being able to walk into a Rolex store and buy a sub on the spot are, well, nothing more than fantasies 😂. So no, that's not remarkable.

    Eventually I earned enough money that I started considering adding a Rolex to my collection. ...but looking at them, they just don't do anything for me.
    Just very plain and boring. I can't help but think it's just a brand name. A status symbol.

      @@Kilimanjahro Well I think it has that title because like you said it is so well know and it is one of those few diver watch that has integrated into everyday life the best. You use it for diving, wear it with a suit and everything in-between. You mentioned the fifty fathoms in another comment, great drive watch, but its 45mm was just to big for most of the public. Only this year they re-introduced a 42mm (non limited) version, therefor doesn't have that mass appeal.

    • @Kilimanjahro
      @Kilimanjahro 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cheynewalls Thats the "functionality" if your diving legibility is everything (the lumed bezel as well). If he means its the "king of deskdivers". I can agree with that. But i think he really meant "diving", so no, a good one, but "the King" is stretching it. IMO. In the Early days most watches were small, so the (functional dive watch size being a bit larger was revolutionary for the industry). Afterwards the dive watch has evolved with the sport/job. Rolex didnt evolve with it. Nowadays all true divewatches have a larger size because its just better if your actually diving. The sub has become more of an "all purpose watch" than a king diver imo.
      And "all purpose" means your good at everything, but not the best at anything. Nothing wrong with that either. Being well known does not factor in the equation for me, there are "perfect products" that few people know about. Which is why they form the core of my collection. All of them can go from their specialist use (diving, performance timing and outdoors respectively) to a great restaurant, gallery or concert without change. Love the content as always. The Sub is a Sub, its the watch I feel its the one watch that all others are compared to. I have to say though, I have been told I am close to the top of the list for a sub, im still in two minds as Im not sure as I wear a shirt 99% of the time.

    Hi Cheyne, I think the issue with the submariner is all the clones can make it a bit boring

    Taxi for the Sub and time to get on the GMT bus

    I have a Submariner Date that I purchased from an Authorized dealer in the Bahamas in 2004 for about 5k US. The wife and I just walked in off the street and bought it on a whim. I have had it service twice now (by an authorized dealer), both complete overhauls that cost over $1000.00 each time (ouch) I definitely need to start taking better care of it. It is a great watch and I wear it everyday, as such it gets pretty beat up but the good news is that when you send it for service they buff right out.

    • @cheynewalls
      @cheynewalls  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good to hear, interesting to hear that your Rolex Submariner need a complete over haul for each service. I have a few friends with similar Submariner from around the same time, their watches just needed a fine tuning at service. You must treat your watch real hard? I guess that is what its for. Thanks for the comments.

      @mrkattm 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cheynewalls Yep, I was pretty hard on it, I never really took it off, I would wear it while working on my cars, boat, motorcycle or whatever. I didn't realize that they had gone up so much in value until they gave me the estimate to fix it the second time and I compared it to the cost of a new one. I will still wear as an everyday watch but I will be taking it off for some of the more harsher activities.

    I think I have the similar feeling of being misunderstood by people wearing my rolexes. For me, when I am going on to social meetings, I wear something that I feel comfortable being seen with. Like you said, you can wear a sub wto a luxury setup, but that mindset is looking for an allround watch. If you can change your mindset for a watch to something similar to what you would wear for clothing, then you can excuse yourself for searching for another watch that you feel would express yourself well besides a rolex. If you wearing a jacket to those social meetings, think of wearing something that won't give the too wrong of an impression to the average joe. If you insist on wearing the sub everywhere, think of why you wear a jacket or a suit to that occasion and not wear a suit or a jacket when your working creatively out in the woods/mountains. Once this mindset kicks in, and you find that sociable luxury watch, you might start considering the 43mm seadweller, or the very wearable deepsea d-blue. The sub is not boring, but probably the most versatile watch ever. But once you know, you might start to think you want more than one decent jacket or a suit, and start collecting for specific usages.

      Different way of looking at it. I think the Rolex Submariner looks its best with a t-shirt and jeans, but I see what you are saying. You are right the Submariner is such a good looking watch it can good with anything I'm wearing.

I felt that if your a one watch only person then the subs a great contender, but once you get it while your still thinking of getting just one best of the best watch only, and you start to realize after you get the sub, that maybe you may have wanted multiple great watches, then you start blaming the sub to not be so good, when its just that your tastes or "mindset" just changed.
