A very windy day for my Carolina Skiff JV-15, but I found a few speckled trout. In my 30's, my brother and I built him a 24 foot cabin cruiser. The following year, I built myself a 20 foot center console, doing all the work myself. I used it for 15 years before selling in for a nice profit.

    New subscriber, thanks! - do you mind recommending a lure or two for kayak fishing in that area?

    • @JAllredFishing
      @JAllredFishing วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for subscribing. Top water is effective in the early morning and my favorite is the Chug Bug in the larger size. I also like shallow running plugs that mimic the finger mullet, but I primarily fish with soft plastics. My favorite plastics are Z Man Jerk shad (Electric Chicken), Z Man Trout Trick (Shrimp Po’ Boy), ZMan MinnowZ (Pearl). My go to and absolute favorite lure, and the one that has been the most productive is the Mirrolure Marsh Minnow (Salt and Pepper with Chartreause tail). I also use ProCure on all non-scented lures. I hope this helps you and good luck.

      @@randyrocket25 Because the areas I fish are mainly grass, I like to move my lure just fast enough to touch the top of the grass. Trout will hide in the grass and ambush unsuspecting baitfish. • @JAllredFishing
      @JAllredFishing หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@martinparmer Yes, there usually quite a few Spanish around from mid summer until the water temp gets in the 60’s. Nothing seems to be normal this year, I believe it is because we have had strong north winds all summer, which pushes the water into the gulf and causes lower tides and less flushing of the inshore waters. I guess it is the high water temps and all the rain has kept the water pretty dirty. You can also launch in the national park at Johnson beach (gate is open early before the ranger arrives), but no trailers are allowed. It is best to get a National Parks pass to avoid entrance fee. Watch some of my other videos to see my favorite spots. If shore fishing, there is a beach near the tower in the park, the trail is near the first parking area near the end. Johnson beach has several parking areas, the best is the last. Good luck, and say hello if I am around.

    • @JAllredFishing
      @JAllredFishing 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching. There are a couple of places to wade fish Big Lagoon. The first is in Big Lagoon State Park on the north side. At the amphitheater, there is a trail to the water and can be a good place to catch redfish. From the amphitheater, you can walk the shoreline toward the tower to a beachy area, or you can drive to the first parking lot near the tower and there is a trail leading to that beach. It drops off quickly to five feet there so be careful. I catch most of my reds in one to three feet of water, so I usually tell people not to wade out, but fan cast from the beach from one side to the other. In that area, the trout are usually in 3-5 feet of water. The next acess will be the National Seashore at Johnson Beach. If you don't have a national park pass, it might be best to invest in one. You can go in before the gate opens at 0700, but I understand they sometimes leave notes on autos to pay on your way out. Down the first road to the left is a kayak/canoe launch you can wade across a small channel to access a beach. Again, fish the shallow water first. There are also parking areas further down the park road to access both the lagoon and the gulf. Beware of riptides in the gulf. I normally use a 1/8 oz jig on the grass beds and my absolute favorite plastic is a MirrOlure Marsh Minnow Paddle Tail, Salt/Pepper/Chartreuse, but if the fish are hungry, it doesn't matter. I have not been able to fish much lately due to a bad back, so I don't really know how the fishing is right now. Good luck to you guys!

    Been searching new sunrise wade spots on the south side,less traffic. Finding some nice trout. Seeing the occasional bull red at the grass line.. Blues are in the gulf right now. Tight lines..

      Is there more access to the water on both sides since the new parking area opened? I haven’t been out there in a while.

    Hello Sir. I'm sure you enjoyed every second on the water, catching the fish just made it better. Curious do you keep up with your PB's? Good to see Ray included, when was that from? THANKS for putting this together, FUN to watch.

      Hey Steve, thanks for the comment. My pb redfish from a kayak is 40 inches, and speck is 28 + caught earlier this year. I have caught many larger redfish from a boat and larger trout in the late 50’s. Ray was down last week. Some of the clips go back to last year, with one being when you and I fished together. I was too far away from you when you caught the trout and didn’t include it. Hope you are doing well.

    I'm always worried that is going to happen when I get a tangle in my line!

      Thinking about it later, it is a quick way to lose a finger if you are fooling with your line and that fish takes off. Scary!

    Where do you launch from to get to Big Lagoon? I’ve always put in over on the Johnson’s Beach side and scurried over. Is there a better option on that side?

    • @JAllredFishing
      @JAllredFishing 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I launch at Big Lagoon State Park. I buy an annual pass to get in early. I use the boat ramp, but they have two kayak launch areas, next to the boat ramp and near the tower. The tower launch is really nice, they have a mat over the sand to make it easy, and you can access the large bayou to the left or go right into the lagoon. A low tide makes it difficult there however. Johnson Beach no longer allows trailers, but I launch my 10 footer there sometimes and fish that side.

      @@JAllredFishing thanks! I’ll definitely look into the year pass. Last time I was at Big Lagoon State Park only the main boat ramp was open. Thanks for the info.

    Outstanding. Glad you got out. I have 2 torn rotator cuffs. Don't know if I'll be able to get them fixed. You got a good moved bad

      Thanks Ron, first time I have been able to fish for more than an hour in a while, bulging disc and neuropathy. I’m falling apart pretty quickly.

    My right shoulder was in pain in the first segment.....LOL!! I thought that 23"+ Speck with the double fangers might have been Trout Dracula.....That was a biggin'!! Nice variety in the skinny water and with the slam!!😎👀
