Fishing Hinny
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 25 ก.พ. 2022
Follow my fishing adventures around the North East of England (plus trips further afield). Come with me on my fishing journey, my aim is to learn and improve over time enabling me to fish using different methods, and catch a whole variety of species.
Hartley Skeers | North Tyneside
I fancied this mark for a while but needed to build up to it.
So, I eventually got my nerve and gave it a go. Not really knowing where to fish, I followed a couple of guys down and fished not too far away from one of them hoping to be in an appropriate spot.
This is rough ground, tackle hungry and very heavy going.
I now have some more info as to other marks to fish around this spot, and will be back a good few times over the coming months.

A trip out with Steve from Sparta Fishing. Our second fishing session together, who will do better ? Watch to find out. I used a different rod this time, a Limitless Seafishing Ltd.
Blyth Pier | Two Types of Fishing

A cvold night on Blyth pier. I decided to chuck out a handline alongside the pier to see what I could catch close in. Which was more productive, the rod - or thew handline ? Watch to find out
So it begins | Winter
มุมมอง 7Kหลายเดือนก่อน
First proper winter cod session, at the Beacons near Newbiggin, in Northumberland. Started as a slow session but picked up towards the end. Bait was cart/squid. Parked at Church point, free parking. Walk over is around 15 mins. Access at all states and tide, good water depth, not to snaggy.
First Time | Fly Fishing

Something a little different for this episode. I've fancies trying some fly fishing for a while. So I bought a fly kit from Lidl for £25.00 to get me going. Sleekburn Water ~Fisheries, Northumberland
Shaking off a cold

Still a little poorly, but needed to get out and fish. So I went up to Dunstanburgh Castle and bait fished with light rods. The walk and the fishing did me the world of good.
St Abbs | October | Lures & New Rod
มุมมอง 5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
I had a few days up at St Abbs in a log cabbin, despite being full of cold I managed a couple of fishing sessions. This on was at St Abbs Head, trying out my new rod - Abu Garcia, Tormentor Travel, three piece, 7 foot, 5-18g. Turned out to be a canny day with a dew fish caught and released.
Get straight back on the horse

After last weeks Amble Pier solo session, I wanted to get straight back out to help grow my confidence ready for the coming winters night fishing. I went to Seaton Sluice, which is near where I live, a place that I know well. I fished a couple hours down to low and one hour back up, into dark.

Night fishing during the colder months is never what I would call enjoyable. This trip was the first of this winter, and I didn't really get into the swing of things. Still it was good to get out and have a try though, hopefully next time will be better
Fishing on the doorstep | Almost
มุมมอง 6K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
A quick trip out to use the last of the worms I had, rather than throwing them away. Technically just down the road from me, but a round trip of around 5 miles to get there as it is over the other side of the River Blyth. A nice little relaxing session.
Final Fair Weather Lure Session
มุมมอง 3.5K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Probably the last of the nice weather videos from this year. I had a day out starting up at St Abbs, however I moved South to Eyemouth after a couple of hours as there was no fish around - possibly due to the amount of dolphins patrolling the water directly in front of me. Plenty of small fish at Eyemouth, but no monsters.
Codling at the Bathing House | Howick
มุมมอง 7K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
A lush day out fishing near the Bathing House, up at Howick, just south of Craster. With a few fish between the two of us. Lots of things went wrong for me, it was one of those days. Fished with Frozen black lug and squid
The Cod are Coming | Collywell Bay
มุมมอง 10K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
My recent cod session from Collywell Bay, at Seaton Sluice. A great first cod fishing session of the season, this could be the start of a great season. Had two fish out, a kelpie, plus a fresh run codling. Bait was lug, and mussel.
Species Hunt | in Northumberland
มุมมอง 3.4K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Just a short video from a recent trip out in Northumberland. I was joined by David on this trip, we camped at Budle Bay Farm campsite for the night too. I managed four species, plus a crab, so it was a canny day out - no monsters on this trip, but its not always about catching big fish, the enjoyment from fishing is what counts.
Fishing for Kelpie Cod | Cambois

Fishing for Kelpie Cod (red cod) which are cod that feed in the kelp beds around the North East of England. They take on a nice red colouration which makes them look unique. Fished with yellowtailsm on a pulley system with a rotton bottom.

Merry Christmas,Hinny, hope you have a good one, has Santa left lots of tackle for you under the tree 😊, tight lines for 2025 🎄🥃
Merry Christmas Neil Best wishes for the new year
Another good video, bless your souls on your feet walking on that shingle lol...keep them coming coming and merry xmas and new year 😘
Thanks David Happy Christmas to you 🤶
So so soooo lovely to see my friend Mark again ❤️ Brillian video Danielle x
Ah Jason, he’s such a huge miss, we had some amazing times together. It was Marks idea for me to start doing the fishing videos, there’s only a few with him on screen, and one day I will watch them all again, but as yet it’s still too painful for me to watch. I’m really glad that you enjoyed seeing him again, I hope you are well x
Only half a point for a coaley Hinney LOL Good looking marks well done for entertaining to you and Sparta 👍🐳
Thanks Adam Haha yeh, half a point 🤷🏻♀️😆 still half a point more than Sparta though 😆😆
Great vid! Lively and informative. I caught a pike once that hadn't actually got itself hooked but just wouldn't let go of a perch that had taken my lure. Perch wasn't in too bad shape after it all either.
Thanks 👍 Haha yeh greedy buggers the fish are sometimes 😆
I thought you were amazing. You already understand so much for a beginner. You made a point half way through about being more gentle. This is so true. Allowing the rod and line to do the work. To be honest most men are crap at this. They just want distance. But just listening to you picking up on what is actually happening. Bye sight and feel. Brilliant. You will do well. So keep it up. On the day, actually did look like quite a tricky day for hooking fish. But your attitude even with no fish has a big thumbs up from me. Seeing Your flies did make me wonder. But I have fish long enough to understand that anything can work on the day. In time your fly box will improve, as with every thing else. Only one tip from me for now, as I can see your going to do well. Keep the rod tip close to the water when retrieving. I will sub as I am keen to see how you get on. Any advise just ask us. Good luck Danielle. Shaun.
Thanks Shaun Yeh I’ve a lot to learn but glad I’m glad I dipped my toe already. I have a better rod and reel now and my local tackle shop guy is going to show me casting and fishing methods before my next attempt. I’m looking forward to the next fly outing 😊🎣
The biggest buzz ever for me is catching fish on flies I tied myself. I love your raw talent of keeping it real, regardless of the result. I'm not the best cod fisherman but love your ability to show me how its done Hinney, ATB.
Thanks D, I’ll be trying the fly fishing again soon, I’ve got some better gear to use now. Hope you’ve been managing to get out and about 👍 ⛺️🎣
@@fishinghinny Look forward to seeing more of the fly fishing. I'm waiting for some winter storms to increase my chances of catching cod before going out again.
haddock black thumb print
Thanks Gary 👍 hopefully I’ll get a few more of these over the Xmas break
Great video! Is the second mark you went on at the golf course or at caravan site?
Thanks Second mark was near the caravan park 👍
From Jedburgh, been a piker all my life but caught a conger last year at Cairnryan. Mon the cod!
I’ve not caught a conger yet, I’m sure I’ll pick one up some day though 👍🎣
Always have some rotten bottom rigs and extra leads with you if you go to a new place . 🙄🙄🙄🙄👎👎👎👎
Cheers 👍
I saw that you sometimes find it difficult to pull out of snags. With that in mind, I thought I would share an idea with you. I do a bit of fishing on Whitby charter boats. When you get snagged on a wreck while drifting and you're quickly moving away from the wreck, you need to find a way of breaking out of the snag ASAP. So most people have a piece of wood in their tackle box. They quickly wrap the braid or mono half a dozen times tightly around the wood. Now they either hold the wood and pull, or the movement of the boat away from the wreck, while the angler holds the wood tight snaps the line. I bought a small rolling pin from the supermarket, and that works for me. Maybe if you were to carry one, you could wrap and pull easier than doing with your hands.
Hi Mike I usually carry some large pliers with rubber coated handles which I wrap the line around a few times then pull the snag out, works well and saves my hands getting cut by braid 👍
Yes, a priest comes in handy for this too.
Had more days like that than I care to remember. Makes you appreciate the good days though and still better than sitting in the house.
Yeh it’s always better to be out doing something like that Jim, much better for you than sitting around, even if it’s not a very productive day 👍
Great video. Where do you park when fishing there ? And is it a long walk to the marks ? Thanks
Park St Abbs Harbour and walk up the coastal path, yeh it’s a canny hike 👍
Nice fishing mark, never thought of trying there TBH, we are spoilt for choice here in the NE. I'm being nosey here when you mentioned rehearsals, I reckon you have some musical ability because its difficult getting sound right, especially when filming in wind swept locations, which is a bit of an art in itself. Audio is half the video and your sound levels are always good.
I use the DJI wireless mic Damien, there’s a knack to setting up the sound correctly, and your right about music, I’m a working singer/guitarist. Haha see, your not the only one who blanks 😆🫣😆
Tough fishing woar lass but what a location. Beautiful coastline and one of my favourite places. Also reminds me of one of my favourite songs. "From Cullercoats and Whitley Bay, out to rock away, rock away" Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Sean Yeh it’s lush down there, I didn’t realise there was steps down until recently, lots more exploring for that area 🤩👍🎣
Danielle you got the tenacity of a bull terrier and the attitude of who dares wins yes you didnt bank a fish but when you do you do it in style. be safe and tight lines
Thanks Barry I’ve always been like that, who dares wins - eventually 🤩👍🎣
One of my favorite marks had some good fish out of it over the years
The bottom of the steps is canny after a big sea if you can chuck over the inevitable loose kelp soup, mint spot to take bairns too fishing the beach top spot for coal fish and flatties
Yeh I was looking at those rocks thinking it would be safe enough to fish from at high water. I’ll give that a go at some point 👍
Where you finished up is called the sumps it fishes on a big southerly and can be tackle hungry..
Thanks James I’ll remember that, it’s nice and local for me 😊
Oouff, that was a tough blank. No fish and a snag-up nearly every cast🥴 us Essex estuary anglers are used to blanks too, but get through fewer weights. I think i’m two lures down this year (one was lost by a mate). Lost zero weights - found half a dozen or so. To be fair i’ve lure fished April onwards so far😏
Haha that sound almost too easy Greg, we certainly go through some weights and lures up here. Some marks are a bit less tackle hungry than others - that one was as bad as I’ve seen 😳🫣😆
@@fishinghinny for me lost tackle is not so much losing a bit of gear - its the pishing’ about tying on new leaders etc. I often use two rods for bait fishing and if i’ve snagged when its cold, often just carry on with the rig thats still ok🙌
I usually have half a dozen rigs made up in the box, a snap swivel on the mainline so if it needs changing it’s just a quick change over, seems to be the way up here
@@fishinghinny straight through heavy line i’m guessing - i’ve much to learn when I heat up your way. 30lbs braid and 60lb leader is my usual and usually 3 to 5 oz lead - i’ve only got one over 5oz and I found that one😏
80-100lb braid main line, 60-70lb traces with a 30lb rotten bottom. That way you can bully the gear out of the kelp etc, hooks should bend out, so all that should be lost is the weight. In theory 😆🫣
Lost gear , no fish supper , not even a slug 2 save a blank 😢 , sorry 2 rub it in 😊, we fished the same reef as last week , free lining pilchards, and squid heads , no king fish ,but plenty of travaly, only way 2 eat them is raw, with a light soy sauce, garlic , chillies , ginger ,spring onion 😊 omg so tasty, better luck next time Danielle 😊 .Happy catching from Australia Nick 🇦🇺
Haha now that is rubbing salt into the wounds Nick 😆🫣 I think I need to move down there to improve my chances. The Travaly dish sound delicious 👌
Good on ya for trying Hartley Skeers, nowadays I live in NZ, used to fish there 45 years ago 😂, caught some awesome cod in winter, go to the left hand skeer 3/4 out and fish straight or back into the bay, or on a big north facing wind, fish at high tide where you come down from the stairs straight into the middle of the bay, tight lines from an old North Sea fisherman 👍👍
Thanks Karl I’ll try those tips on future trips, it’s a great place so I’ll be back plenty 🤩👍🎣
nice movie
Thanks Kenny 🤩👍🎣
You can't win them all but as you've said many a time, fishing is not just about catching fish - it teaches you patience, resilience and determination when things aren't going one's way - all essential life skills. P.S. What make / model of tripod are using on those rocks Danielle ?
Thanks Ian Yeh, although it would be nice to catch every time, it’s not what is important, and I still enjoy every session even if I do sometimes get a little frustrated when it’s not going well. The tripod is unbranded, it was given to me by a friend, fine for rocks but I need to get a better one for the beaches 👍🎣
Get a monopod - my dad got the blacksmith at Blackhall pit to knock me one up out of steel rod 60 yrs ago after I'd seen a guy fishing with a tin can strapped to a broom handle with a bit of wire wrapped around the top - 60 yrs on and it's still going strong 😊
I’ll have a look at a monopod Ian, cheers 👍
Better luck next time you always put a smile on my face with some of your comments at least your out there giving it a go
Thanks Kevin I’m glad you enjoy the videos 🤩👍🎣
I would be trying maybes a 1 hook paternoster or a shorter pulley on hartley skeers amd definitely a rotten bottom. Sometimes masking the hookpoint with bait can stop the hooks getting hung up.
Yeh, I didn’t realise it would be so snaggy there, definitely going to re-think tactics next time I hit that spot 😊👍🎣
Glas you got plenty to keep you going this month Danielle ..cheers for the vid lass.
Thanks Hugh Yeh busiest month of the year for me, I’ll still find some time for fishing though 🤩👍🎣
Good Evening Danielle , Yeah Hartley skeer is a good mark but it is a sinker graveyard tbf , i think west bay is a much better mark or behind the Kings Arms , stay safe & don't worry about the blank tight lines
Thanks Steve Yeh I’m hoping to try behind Kings soon, it looks like a great mark 😊👍🎣
Good to get out 👍
It certainly is Darren 🤩👍🎣
Well done learning new maks is good for you.
Thanks Craig Yeh it’s great to get out and fish new areas 👍
Getting up early in the morning is made much easier just by knowing that you're going fishing 🎣, 🎣, and I'm sure it'll pay off for you one day, there's a cod or two out there with your name on them, well done and many tight lines too come, 😊
Thanks David I have to admit, the ONLY time I get up early is for fishing 😆😆 being a musician that’s a perk of my job 🤩
One of them days all had them but on the other hand there is always next time😂
Yeh, I always look forward to getting back out after a blank session Colin, full of optimism 😆
Those skeers were a tackle graveyard when I used to fish them 40 years ago....
Yeh they’re just as bad now from what I’ve seen so far Jeff, tackle hungry to say the least 😳
@fishinghinny landed my first shore caught codling there , think it was 1974 or5! It was huge...well , about 8 inches long but to me it was better than a record fish!
Haha well that was around 8” longer than what I caught Jeff 😆🫣
@fishinghinny I think it cost me about 2 stone of lead weights though...
Outside is better than inside.
Definitely 👍
Needed a bigger sea on for Hartley bay, plus nowt to do with the hundreds of seals Danielle, never mind fresh air
I did wonder about all the seals nearby at the lighthouse, they must take more than a fair share of the fish from around here !
You are out there fishing keep it up
Thanks Ian 🤩👍🎣
Fishing can be frustrating, never truer words said 😂. Tight lines 🎣🎣🎣
Haha yeh, some days can make us wonder why we do it Neil, but we keep trying 😆👍🎣
@fishinghinny always the next time 🎣😄
My favourite haunt. It is a safe place to fish because the tide doesn't cut you off. If you start at 2.5 hours down you can get onto the first uncovered rocks and fish into the middle of the bay. As the tide ebbs, move along the skeer (but it gets more shaggy). The biggest problem is the number of lobsters and rocklings. The lobsters give a 'bite' as they flip back with the bait and they strip your hook clean. It fishes well after a big blow, if the bay isn't choked with seaweed. Better at night.
Thanks for the info Dave It is a great local mark, I’ll be back more in the future 🤩👍🎣
The sandy bay in the middle often has coalies, which may be giving you the bites that don't come back. The snags are often down to the hooks catching on the rocks. If you use hooks such as Norvik viking they will bend out if your main braid is strong enough and can be bent back for the next cast. Happy to meet up on an evening in future. I have had years of fishing the skewers.
The hooks are Mustard viking. Skeers!
Thanks Dave I usually use the Viking hooks but was trying some different ones that time, I’ll be going back to vikings when I re-stock as I never lost full rigs when I was using them 👍
Part and parcel of sea fishing losing gear, nowt ya can dee aboot it. Another atmospheric video Danielle what with the sullen skies. At least you were just rock scrambling and not Billy Goating 😂. Better luck next time pet ❤❤
Thanks Stephen Yeh it was rough there, got some other places to look at around there for future vids, still was a nice day out 🤩
Never mind Danielle, at least you gave it a try. Better luck next time ❤️🐟.
Thanks Chris, hopefully I’ll get something next trip out, it’s well overdue 😆🤞
Another good video hinny just glad you werent in storm darragh
Thanks David Yeh it’s rough out there atm, I’ll be out either tomorrow or Tuesday hopefully to fish the aftermath 🤞
Thanks, better hunting next time. P.S. that will teach about getting up early.
Haha yeh Bill, I’ll have an extra hour in bed next time 😆👍🎣
Wish for a fish thats your catchphrase.
Haha it is, I mustn’t have wished enough that day Audrey, I will next trip out 🤞
Fair play for trying. On another day you might have seen me paddling my kayak out from Collywell Bay. There's a kelp bed off the southern point of Collywell Bay (too far to reach from shore) that often holds decent fish from the kayak. Saves a long paddle when you can get fish out so close to shore 🙂
Some really nice marks around there, lucky to have it on our doorstep 👍
Ya can't win um all Danielle
Yeh, win some lose some. But it’s always worth being out there 😊👍🎣
One day Hinny, one day it can't be far away now surely 😂😂 .
Haha how many times have we said this 🫣 but, yeh, one day Very soon 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Good effort Hinn, well done. Had a great freezing trip to loch Etive last week, I think sent you some photo's. Keep up the good work !
Thanks Ash The photos looked amazing, I’m hoping there might be a video from Doug soon 🤞 I’ll give you a ring through the week 😊
It's frustrating when one loses weights but that's fishing Hinny.ps how or what do you think of your sonic rod.cos I love mine 😊
Yeh it was rough there and leads will be lost Stephen. I like the Sonik Black, for the price it’s a great rod, it certainly has done me well so far. I’ll be getting a new rod in the new year, probably a three piece 13-14’, not sure which one yet, but it’ll be for taking away on trips next year 😊
@@fishinghinny I can lend you a Grey's apollo if that's any use.
I might give it a try Ash, always nice to try different gear for comparison 👍
Hi Hinny, how did you get on with the Limitless that Sparta lent you.
Great video Dannielle, and Sparta of course! Thats a proper gnarly spot to fish - maybe you were a mountain goat in a previous life😏
I’m growing hooves Greg 😆 Was a bit iffy that spot, I’ll not be on there again 🫣
@ be a devil - a cheeky pair of horns would go with those hooves, and you would never be cold😏
@@fishinghinny the full mountain goat rig will need a pair of cheeky horns to go with the hooves🤣 Sparkly ones would be appropriate for Christmas!
When the worms are slippery rub them in sand. Works great 👍
Ah thanks for that, I’ll give that a try next time 🤩👍🎣
