Kingston Buskers Festival | Street Performers Provide A Fun Night Out On The Town
July 6th, 2024
The Kingston Busker's Festival has come to town this weekend so we take in some of the late Saturday afternoon and evening street performers. This event has been happening for many years and it's always a fun way to spend a few hours watching these highly talented and entertaining artists at work.
Many of these buskers travel the world perfecting their trade so we are lucky to be able to witness a wide array of international acts.

Seeking Shade On The Trails - Gould Lake Conservation Area Hike
มุมมอง 8023 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
July 2, 2024 The dogs and I visit Gould Lake Conservation Area for a hike. While it's not overly hot today, the sun is quite intense. Here at Gould Lake, we can hike mostly in the shade so I thought the dogs would appreciate that. Music: "Touching Moment" by Wayne Jones "You Will Know" by Text Me Records

Vegetable Garden Update and Happy (belated) Canada Day!
มุมมอง 82วันที่ผ่านมา
July 1st, 2024 Happy Canada Day! The weather is nice so I decide to take a brief tour of our vegetable garden to show how it is progressing. Luckily, we've had regular rain during much of spring and early summer so the vegetable garden is coming along well. Of course, rain also helps the weeds to grow fast too so we have spent a lot of time hoeing and hand pulling thousands of weeds. Growing yo...
Racing the Rain on the Morning Dog Walk

June 29th, 2024 I take advantage of a break in the rain to get the dogs out for their morning walk. According to the weather radar, I figure I should have about 1.5 hours before the main rain patch hits. At about 3 km out from the house, I realize I have underestimated the speed of the approaching rain and so I turn the dogs around and head back. It's only a matter of minutes and the first rain...
Remote Road Exploration on the Canadian Shield

June 3rd, 2024 In my never ending search for good walking areas, the dogs and I head north to explore a remote road on the Canadian Shield. Into the Fly Zone - Hiking California Road In Late Spring | Good Idea or Bad?

“Heat Dome” is a meteorological description of an event where hot air is compressed closer to the earths surface by a high pressure area. Now, including more mini profiles of some of the animals and plants you encounter on your nature hikes is a great idea! Love these mini biographies, as we can learn more about nature. I've learned a great deal from your wealth of knowledge, in this regard. Plus, identifying so many plants and animal species you come across, is much appreciated. View count isn't too bad either!

Is that right eh? We’ve had both cool and damp and warm and dry. This week we go into hot and dry. Hopefully the dry part won’t last too long. 😊

WOW! Beautiful thumbnail, intro, music, and video! Your thumbnail choices are gorgeous. They always stand out in my TH-cam video feed. Do you remember when I mentioned to you, once you reached 1,000 subscribers, a new algorithm would start? Look how quickly you made it to 1,100 subs. I suggested to you, you would have great appeal to viewers. An excellent host, with great topics. Plus, this road doesn't have a proper gravel shoulder for you walk safely on. Thank you very much for this pre-weekend treat. Your videos always inspire my creativity, and love for the outdoors. Thank you Todd! Pat

Thanks Pat! Yes the subs. are moving along well it seems. My views per video however are still pretty low. Usually less than 100. Which is not great. I realize that my hiking videos are rather boring for many people and so I try to add more interest to these or include other types of videos.

I have butterfly weed growing in my field in north Alabama. It is sandy because I live next to a mountain. I have also seen it growing in ditches.

Sounds like you live in a nice area. Butterfly weed can be quite abundant where growing conditions are right for it. It has spread quite a bit on our sandy soils in just a few years. 😊

Excellent video! Glad your were able to enjoy the trail and nature, before the heat and humidity became too intense. And also avoided too many bicyclists. Scenery and landscape look beautiful! I am amazed at your ability to detect, and identify so many bird calls, so readily. Unstable weather here in Ottawa, for several days now. Humidity seems to be a fixture for Eastern Ontario, in summer. Thanks for this great video. Watched it yesterday... watching again this morning, and posting now. Enjoy a terrific week ahead Todd! Thank you for a great explanation on your build. I have a bunch of wine crates I need to recycle. I think the wood is the perfect thickness. I'm going to give it a shot. I like the way you attached it to the tree. I hear great horned owls hunting the mice on my roof at night. So hopefully, I'll get some to nest.

I am in zone 7B, and I have a lovely standard. The ONLY thing I wish is that it had a longer bloom-time. It sometimes reblooms for me! It is a fantastic plant, and I love it so much!

Excellent video! I can immediately see how very sandy your soil is. In spite of the compost, you always add. I can also see why the weeds are thriving... it has been a good growing season thus far. Indeed, your soil is nice for weed pulling. My dad used to read several daily newspapers. So, he always used newspaper as a cheap, and handy garden mulch for keeping weeds down. Thank you, for identifying your most common weeds. Very nice job, removing the weeds as well. Again, your soil is so easy to work with! Compared to the heavy clay we have here. We had a very strong, sustained rainstorm here this afternoon. Will really help all vegetation. Great video Todd, thank you for sharing it! Pat

Thanks Pat! Sandy soils are nice in many ways but need constant inputs. At our previous place we had heavy clay. It is nice when you cut it with compost. Lots of nutrients and holds moisture well. I vowed to keep ahead of the weeds this year so I have some catching up to do. Yes we’ve had 1.1” or about 27.5mm of rain today in some nice downpours. Sadly, no thunder at all here.
