    I've been using XPS computers for the last 19 years. My first XPS, an XPS 400, lasted me from 2006 through 2018 as my daily (and I mean DAILY) driver. I did have to replace the power supply and upgrade the graphics card, but those only cost me about $50 each. A truly wonderful purchase, the XPS 400, so much so that when it came time to buy a replacement, I went with the XPS 8930 and have been using it with all stock parts ever since. It runs virtually the same as it did out of the box, and I've used it for gaming, productivity, and even some light (but important) video editing for family. It's been 6 years already and I'm thinking it'll probably run another 6 with minor replacements--but I'm already shopping around for my next XPS machine.

    I am a data manager at a distribution company i work with massive excel sheets with all out items (800k skus/ lines in excel) running wild formulas. I just bought an optiplex 7020 small form factor plus i9 64GB ram, didn’t set it up yet. I’m just wondering if should exchange it for the full tower with 500w power supply and possibly better thermals, or not such a difference and should worry??

    • @Scott.The.IT.Guy.
      @Scott.The.IT.Guy. 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey, I do have a 7020 optiplex with the i9-14900k cpu as well but haven’t had a chance to run benchmarks on it. I am sure that a full tower pc would perform significantly better. The size of the cooler and the size of the power supply is just not enough here . If you watch my Dell XPS 8960 video , even there with the i9-14900k we are leaving about 10-20% performance on the table. I would go with the optiplex full size tower or even with the XPS 8960. XPS can also last 10 years no problem.

    • @yonatonrozanski1530

      Thanks for your quick reply! Just want to clarify some things and wondering if your opinion still stays the same. I got the 14900 not the 14900k. I got it with the 280W power supply. I’m just wondering why dell would offer an i9 In a form factor that would throttle its performance… another thing is i realize i got the "class 35" ssd. will class 40 be a big upgrade since twice read/ write? or both so fast will be marginal...

    • @Scott.The.IT.Guy.
      @Scott.The.IT.Guy. 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Dell will sell you anyting as an option but it does not mean that we can`t do better with a different model, In this video: th-cam.com/video/HFBwlwSPwy0/w-d-xo.html Pancake style cooler is what we have inside the 7020 SFF with a piece of plastic funnel on the top. In this video you can see at 5:10 that just going with a larger cooler from Dell we are gaining somewhere between 2-15% performance with the same exact CPU. In our case it does not matter if it’s a K or non-K CPU since we cannot overclock the system anyway (if you watch the full video). Yes, we can but it did not result in any performance gain, even the largest Dell cooler is already maxed out, and again, with a custom PC without overclocking, just with a larger cooler will perform about 20% better than this XPS will ever do. Also forgot to mention the speed of the SSD is probably critical for you since you are working with large files, even with a lot of ram, swapping on the SSD will happen no matter what. The SSD in the XPS is about twice as fast as the OptiPlex, unless you are putting a new SSD in this OptiPlex. The 14900 non-K with the turbo boost can draw and would draw 219 W from the PSU, which means you have 60W left for the Mobo, ram, SSD, extra VGA if you have any of that. This will not happen because your system will be throttled before that. Maybe this is already great for what you will do and not an issue. I am just saying a bigger case with a better cooler a 500W+ PSU and a faster SSD is a better option with the XPS and probably also much cheaper as well.

    I am the number 1 fan of your channel and at this point trying to decide between Intel i9-14900K and Intel i9-14900KS. The KS version is rating pretty high on benchmarks but wondering if you have any advice on which one we should use? (We use these machines at my startup for AI and they are not used for gamin). You should come visit us in San Francisco, our office has a farm of these machines :)

    • @Scott.The.IT.Guy.
      @Scott.The.IT.Guy. 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That sounds awesome! If you are planning to get multiple of these, I would get just one from each and test them the way you will run them. The KS is only 200 MHz faster which results in games about a 2% average performance increase. That number could be higher in your environment. I used to work for a company as a part of the hardware team. When it was time to get new desktops for the software developers we got one PC with top end CPU and a pc with a high end cpu. Three days later they came over and said that when they compiling code the top end CPU is 8 minutes faster than the cpu just below. He said they need to that least six times a day so that 8 minutes that is almost 1 hour faster/ employee and they had 40 software developers.

    I think it would be good to inform people that these Dells aren't automatically compatible with every make and model of RAM that seems to match spec. You really have to verify the RAM module's compatibility with the OptiPlex before purchasing, else it may be a crap shoot if it will work. I've been burned a few times before with this.

      According to the Intel tuning software, this CPU only gets 85w from the motherboard. The 12900k by default needs a 125w but with the turbo boost this spikes up to 240W. The 6400xt peaks at 280W at gaming and we have a 180w power supply with no power cord for the GPU. The largest PSU Dell offers is a 300W PSU also without the 6 pin/8 pin cable. Right now the 12900k only delivers about 60% of its performance in a multi core environment:(

      Dell messed this up by bringing back the old model names a decade later. If they keep things as it is, we are going to have a new 7050 in three years. The “new” models 7010(2023) 7020(2024) Should have been called something different like 7023 and 7024 that would have been a better choice, I think. So confusing to have two different 7010 one from 2014 and one from 2023.

      We have a 180W PSU here which has no power cable for the GPU. Also, this i9 is completely crippled already since the Mobo is only passing 85W to it, but by default the 12900k needs 125W not mentioning when the turbo kicks in and the power consumption goes up to 240W temporally. We dont have a lot of option, as mentioned by unstopable_rob: 3050 LP,GTX 1650 LP, low model Intel Arc, 4060 LP or the A2000 but the last two are expensive and we still need a Dell 300W PSU which also dont come with the power cable :( :( :(

    Hi Guys, I have this one bought it in Jan 2023. it has a i5 8GB and 128gb ssd I got it for $299 on sale. It is great for your basic computer needs like email, web browser, video calling, watching movies and basic office applications. I love the screen and has pretty much enough for most people and it can nearly replace a basic desktop PC. Things that I added on to it is a ram upgrade so I have 16gb and I bought some $60 bluetooth over ear headphones to enjoy watching movies on it. on the future I was thinking of upgrading the SSD to 512 for more built-in storage but a $25 USB flash drive is enough for storing files for me as of now. Yes, adding 8GB more ram totalling to 16GB has significantly improved the performance and buying a decent bluetooth headphones for it is great for solo movie watching. I love this Dell.

      @@antonioton-tonfukuchi3106 So The CPU needs 65W however with the Turbo Boost it can burst up to 154W for a short period of time . The RX 6400 needs maximum 53 W for gaming ( Browsing, dual monitor , watching video 5-10W) however it can also shoot up to 75W . So if you are gaming you can get into a situation where the 180W power supply is just not enough. In general , for work, browsing , watching movies and light gaming it will be fine. If you are really going to play a lot a 300W PSU might give you a smoother gaming experince.

    windows 10 or 11 should not be allowed to update your bios!!!! if it does this when battery is low and the battery runs flat will brick the laptop. bios updates should be done through the dell update assistant/ dell update software only. dell will show an adapter and tell you to plug in external power while doing a firmware update. wish windows would not do this. as an old school hobbler techie guy, i only tend to do a bios update only when needed. if it aint broke don't fix it, old school i know but its served me well. x your videos are getting better and better, so informative and educational. x i have the vostro 3500, build quality is poor sadly, luckily its my mams and stays on the desk 90% of the time.

      I am a huge Louis Rossmann fan and I have been doing my part by fixing things and making them last as long as possible and if they hold no value or benefit to me or anyone in my range, I am happy to pass the opportunity to others. I feel like with Dell and other manufacturers who allow you to purchase an extended warranty AFTER the original warranty expired for an affordable price, we are pretty good on this topic. I am not in the business of repairing circuit boards or other components so I can’t talk about that. But if you have a $2000 laptop with a failed motherboard and your warranty is out warranty maybe you are looking at a $400-500 bill from Dell just to get a new board. Or you can get an extended warranty for half of that cost and Dell might even send their tech out to your home to make the replacement happen and you are going to be covered for another year or so. What do you think?

    This is such a coincidence, I just picked up a 3070 SFF for a family member and going to refurbish it as well! One thing I'm really curious about. Do Optiplexes, but the 3070 SFF in particular take Intel F processor. For example the 9400F is not on the list of supported CPUs but the Intel i5 9400 is. Would the 9400F still work when used with a low profile GPU?
