I’m so upset that my customer made laptop with high specs from 2020 is nothing compared to the most basic new computers
That’s odd, normally my business clients are able to keep their laptops and desktop least for 5-6 years or longer. What specs do you have on your laptop?
Does anyone has successfully upgraded the battery on the latitude 5550? I upgrade the ssd and the ram front 16 to 32gb. Yet the battery doesn't last too long. When I'm working I'm lucky if I have 2 hours.
What are you running on the laptop? The battery is significantly worse compared to the previous generation for sure but it should last way longer than 2 hours. Do you know how to run a battery health check? What power profile do you have in bios and in windows?
hi, i want to extend my 16go of ram. which brand do they use ? I want to buy the exact same ram to make it dual channel.
Have a couple options. I would pop the top cover off and take your existing ram out, write down the model number and search on that specific model. Amazing or eBay will have a perfect match. Other option is going to Dell support, enter your Dell service tag, look at the parts came with your desktop and get the Dell model number for your ram and get a match based on that. If you go all third party, I have great luck with crucial, teamgroup and gskill , they all worked flawlessly for the fraction of the cost of Dell.
Can Optiplex plus 7020 run dual Nvidia T1000 card?
7020 SFF standard can have only one GPU. standard plus can have two single slotted GPU or one dual slotted and single slotted physically. My next video is about the 7020 SFF GPU options, the T1000 is included just as the RTX 3050 OC and the RX6500. I would not put two T1000 in the 7020, cooling and power will be a problem, it’s barely manageable with the GPU.
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. I am using optiplex plus 7020 and need to use 8 HDMI/DP ports
Ok, the plus model has three display port on by default and you can add another display port or HDMI port to it so you might going to get away with one card. Of course depending on what resolution the onboard ports has to put out. Watch my precision 3680 video and check the port where I show the 4th add on port for the motherboard. This also applies to the 7020 SFF. th-cam.com/video/yrMygZgpHcE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1NmAOdokXps7eNqR
Hi, can I disconnect the battery and work with direct power from the source? Thanks
Unfortunately I don’t know the answer. A lot of these new laptops no longer has Bios batteries, therefore if you disconnect the main battery the laptop will not turn on. However the bios has different battery management options and there should be one for the same scenario where you are going to use the laptop from the charger.

System Setup options-Power menu: Theres is a lot of options on how to configure the battery behavior. There is a menu here called advanced I believe there is an option if you are not using the battery at all just the charger to extend the battery life. Hope this helps!
I agree, I have always been a big fan of Dell's industrial design choices. I work in an engineering/manufacturing environment where I'm also responsible for the IT. For years I have always bought used and new Dell equipment. They are just so easy to work on. So easy to open for maintenance, documentation is easily found and everything is usually built like a tank. And not to mention Dell equipment is always first in line for updates, support and compatibility. The stuff just works when you need it to.
Thank you for your comment !
Fun fact: There is an Amazon-exclusive version of the 7010 MFF that contains, of all CPUs, a full fat Core i9-14900K and 64GB RAM, paired with a 4 TB SSD.
Just checked , some even has 128 GB of ram. The Dell SFF power supply taps out at 300W. All SFF comes with the same “standard” aluminum cooler which covers only 80% of the surface of the CPU. So much throttling, it’s pointless. When I put a 14900k into the 7020 SFF and run a benchmark it was about 40% slower than the CPU is capable of doing and with a proper cooler and power supply.
Thankyouu
Welcome 😊

How to install Bluetooth on Dell Optiplex 3070? Pls
You can install a compatible internal or external WiFi card which has Bluetooth connection as well or you can just buy a USB Bluetooth adapter like this. www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Bluetooth-Receiver-Controller-UB500/dp/B09DMP6T22/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=178E1CTO9CN1A&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.G2Edfn60_s5eJg6TIHinZWnqizzV0VXoKpGVmafBJp3LZJy7VjqnrDx9dm6OknsspDsq4BSShGKJpSv-Sh3N3LZuIDzmzquUcuNok5gqS4xCSoz4NjwqewtJT1I5aJfOOKev_CoMI5oE2SXFlMGCdQPk39zFyZ46I_L5F58LXxPMskZrdOWqzpPaH0DGL8cpiRufj4KzkTKqUkrqDIAi8g.sKVa-7Cz425YuyWFteMXDb5bEbSfop3JlyEvlpU0Sz0&dib_tag=se&keywords=usb+bluetooth+adapter+for+pc&qid=1731896670&sprefix=usb+bl%2Caps%2C155&sr=8-3
I would just go for a USB to BT dongle like this: www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Bluetooth-Receiver-Controller-UB500/dp/B09DMP6T22/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3KP4ZUZ3R3W01&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.zphMgdfoIjRbdIgExwgpjnEXook_xhQsl1ehxP5KX_uvq39NBs3jQnwrJFRbv618yi8Sm-MlYt_2Ri5m58oqh4BWF56PSUM2Uz8U8cFXc2M09fW12FLFkReRCpfbIT8PoubsS8NJNIsKFat3SiaaLOjh79pXtR2xc8PcLZJT_I_OdkDQ8JQS6WhnNf5zoNWgvToUAwYnlR4yi1pQS1NETvBncfa0o3LWa7crVhAMCdU.iL9sCUWc5YxBUQi9wv9lpiaDm5rSiRfw03GDVGK6wD0&dib_tag=se&keywords=usb%2Bbt%2Badapter&qid=1732040834&sprefix=usb%2BBT%2B%2Caps%2C99&sr=8-3&th=1 The other option is installing a m2 or PCIe WiFI card wich all has BT included as well.

Jag önskar! I am Hungarian , moved to the US about 20 years ago.
I am looking for windows desktop should i buy optiplex 7020 with gen 14 processor
What are you going to do with the PC? Do you need a dedicated Video card, are you planning to do gaming or video editing?
Love the info! Thanks!
Any time!
👍
Thanks!
Thanks for the review 👍
No problem 👍
I was pretty sure that the OptiPlex mini tower is way more upgrade capable than the small factory form, I guess I was wrong ?
I am surprised as well, looks like they are really pushing the standard plus.
Amazing review🙌🏻
Thank you for your comment, really appreciate it!
Dude - came first the review and you wasted 5 min talking about nothing .
Sorry about that, do you have a specific question about this model, maybe I can answer it directly. We don’t have a whole lot of them in production, probably around 15-20 so far. They all work flawlessly, my only concern is the heat on the bottom of the unit. Where they need to perform, they can’t be stacked and I installed them upside down.
Hello Scott hope you are doing fine. May I ask you which country are you origin from?
Hey, Sure, I am Hungarian emigrated to the US about 15 years ago.
21:48 yes there are cheaper but their also less quality because they use to small cooler, no air vents in the top of the cases, the power supply often has no gpu 6 or 8 pin plug, the mainboards having no vrm coolers, the mainboards having lesser io ports on the bag, no removable backplate from the cases or the coolers! To many things were Dell has tcheapt out this computers I would never buy on instead of an quality pc with an ASUS strix, Hero or Asrock live mixer, Steel legend or Teichi with Nzxt Aio or Noktua air coolers as Coler because thes ar very good quality parts and I can reuse them in later pc builds
Sure, I agree with you on a lot mentioned above. These computers are for people who will make no modifications and used them as they are . In the lot of cases these computers can and will last a decade or longer if need to be. This is also not the high end gaming PC line, that wood be the Alienware. Just watched a TH-cam video with Chip Foose yesterday,he drives a Ford F150 bone stock, not one thing modified. My next video will be about a Dell 7010 optiplex desktop for businesses, the amount of stuff Dell cut off from the motherboard even surprised me :)
This is the best guy I have found on the net for teaching what a person needs to know buying a used bus computor, great job scott! Never buy a home unit new buy a used bus class computor 3-5 years old!
Thank you so much for you kind words, really appreciate it!
From your perspective do you think this laptop is good for editing?
This is a super low budget laptop, it’s really for browsing and office applications and emails. What are you trying to edit?
I bought mine when I was at 01:05 from the video, nice.
Thank you for your comment! Really appreciate it!
I have a Dell Optiplex 7050 MT with 7th gen Intel came with HDD and upgraded it to NVME SSD and its so much more faster and a lot more snappy
Oh yes, the NVMe upgrade is pretty sweet especially if you are coming from an HDD!
@Scott.The.IT.Guy. yeah it is honestly I'm surprised businesses get rid of these computer's but they are still useful either way
Not all of them but a good amount. I work for medical, financial, and legal offices. After 5-6 years these computers need more ram, a new drive and a fresh install of windows with program and data transfer. Here in the US this easily costs $200 or $300 / computer. When a new OptiPlex is on sale you can get them around $600-650. If a 5-6-year-old computer goes down for a doctor or a lawyer, they lose more money in just a couple of hours than what brand new PC would cost. These old desktops works great after a new SSD and fresh install of windows but they down have TPM2 security chips, they don’t support W11 officially therefore not HIPPA compliant and the list goes on.
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. yeah but either way mine was working great after I did the hard drive upgrade and I had a good enough amount of ram too that came with it
Hey, im trying to upgrade my dell latitude e5470 ram, is this ram good, perfect fit and reliable/long lasting (Crucial DDR4 3200 MT/s (PC4-25600) SODIMM 260-Pin Memory, 16GB)

How do I add a 2.5" SSD inside the hard drive cage? I bought a Dell adapter R494D, but it won't work. Do you know what adapter I need? I bought a brand new 7020 SFF last week. Any help would be appreciated!
Do you have a 7020 standard or the standard plus?
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. I have the standard model.
Hey, FYI, I found a bracket online. It has screw holes on the bottom of the bracket that I needed to mount it in the Dell drive caddy since Dell doesn't have the screw holes on the side. I was hoping for a Dell part, but oh well, this one works great.
I am making a video on the standard with every possible upgrade option, I will include this topic. To be honest, a lot of them don’t even have a proper bracket, they just have double sided tape or velcro. I have two different caddy what I use,but both needs a small modification with the standard.
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. The bracket I found was only $10, and fit perfect and can accomodate 2 SDD's. You need a bracket that has screw holes on the bottom.
I don't know why but TH-cam suggested me a few of your videos, and you seem like a really nice guy! And your videos are very interesting and "direct", no fancy silly stuff that most "hardcore enthusiasts" do, way more practical!
Thank you so much for your kind words! Really appreciate it!
careful with intel warranty replacements. i have done 3 returns and they keep sending me used cpus that already have fried cores.
Omg! That is awful, I am so sorry. So they are no longer sending out factory sealed new CPU’s?
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. sadly at least not for me. i think they are hoping to cut losses and hope nobody notices if maybe the replacement isnt as damaged as the returned one.
dell makes great computers. ive had my dell for 9 years going on 10 next year.
Intel wants me to send in my defective CPU first, bad customer support considering my whole work computer is built around the CPU...
I am sorry, that is not cool for sure :(
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. I sent a message saying I need my computer for work and that I cant wait for the entire RMA process and that I am willing to pay for the new one until refunded for the defective one. Waiting for answer now
And I got denied after asking twice... I even offered to pay for the replacement beforehand. I am pissed off now, Intel seems bent on tarnishing their own image by making the RMA process as painful as possible... Now my only choice is to buy a new cpu, send in the defective one and flip the replacement CPU on the 2nd hand market. I feel like these guys deserve a lawsuit but I don't think I have the capability to take them to court so my only real choice is to go along with their BS but I will try and make it known how bad Intel is
Thats what I had to do, I lost least $150-$175 on the 14900K when I sold it on Ebay :(
Great review! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the review, these professional cards are crazy expensive! Would love to see the $6000 RTX 6000 stacks up against the $1200 4090 or upcoming 5090?
Same here, would love to do some benchmarks and test but never going to be able to afford these $5k cards for sure :)
Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure!
What's up with Dell and needing to clean install on a brand new PC to fix issues? I've heard/read about many people having this sort of problem. How can Dell be sending out systems fresh from the factory with bad software like this?
Something is wrong with the image or with the final part of the image deployment. I wonder long would have take to Dell to figure out what was causing this. It’s disappointing that the flagship model is having issues on day one.
👍
Thanks you for your support!
Looks like the XPS 8960 to me, just a few extra features and options and also cost more.
I agree with you, the XPS is not much behind regards of performance and it`s on sale a lot! Much, much cheaper than this.
Same here, it’s maybe a better choice if you don’t need ECC ram .
I love how modular this PC is, super easy to swap parts out, as long as you stay inside the Dell environment.
I like it lot , as more as I work with these the more I appreciate them.
Hi from Australia. I recently got one of these 7450's. Ho do i get wifi to work for interernet. I dont seem to be able to pull up wifi? Thx Brian
Do you see the Wi-Fi card under the device manager? If not, do you see any device with a question mark or exclamation mark?
I am thinking about buying this laptop, just for browsing and reading articles online, watching films and listening to music. No gaming at all, and no graphic work. I had two HP laptops before and they overheated... so, I'm thinking of trying a new brand..
As long as you not go with the i7 it should be fine. I would get the same i3 based on what you described.
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. Shouldn't the i7 be better quality? But I'm not buying i7 because it would make the PC very expensive for me... Tell me, please, out of your experience, does Dell overheat and makes loud noise? What are its cons? I never dealt with Dell. Thanks so much!
Not in this category. In the lower price category the Intel i7 CPU usually has the same cooler as the i3. Therefore it gets hot and overheat, throttled, and the fan usually runs a lot. With more expensive models if you go with the i7 it has a better cooling system compared the i5 and the i3.
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy.sorry, I got confused.. you mean the i7 is better in general? Or the i7 in cheaper models is bad? I'm thinking of i3, so is it okay?
i3 is great! The cheap i7 usually not good becuase the cooling system is just not good enough.
you can only use dell parts
I don’t really mind. I manage 410 of these and they all are working flawlessly for business client. I can go to Amazon or other places and get Ram-SSD-GPU for cheap, other than that my clients usually not need anything.
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. cool
is 840 G6 with a 2gb dedicated AMD graphics card model good for casual gaming along with work ?
This is not a gaming laptop on the top of that the cpu itself is pretty outdated. What game would you play?
Hello Sir, Next year at the end of W10 updates support, I will buy probably this Dell OptiPlex 7020 SFF Plus, I don't play any computer games. Sometime, I need to editing some videos or pictures files so, could you tell me what kind of graphic card choose? Best regards.
I actually making a video right now with 4 different low budget video cards what works with the optiplex 7020, it will be out next week!
If I could suggest, the A310 is perfect for non-gaming but with AV1 support for video editing. But its a bit noisy from its fan.
Would love to get a bunch of these low budget cards and compare them but this channel is self sponsored therefore very limited on budget:) I have the RTX 3050 OC, RX6500, NVIDIA T1000 and RX550. I already own these so no money needed to be spent. The T1000 and the RX6500 are actual Dell upgrade options so at least they will be useful for someone looking at these desktop.
Can I download apps on it
Sure you can from the google store. What app are you looking to get?
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. I bought it, and it works great. Thank you
Thanks! Glad it worked out!
Great video
Thanks! Really appreciate it!
I'm planning to buy Dell Vostro 3520 i3 1215U for my daughter for her school work. I presume they (in school) will work on MS Office, maybe some python, as well as some NoCode apps. Do you suggest this laptop?
It has no problem to handle office applications, the question is how many times a week are you going to carry if at all and how much does it cost?
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. Actually it will be used as a "desktop" computer, only at home. Current price is 299 euros.
That sounds great , you should go for it!
@@Scott.The.IT.Guy. Thanks Scott! Your review actually really helped me to decide whether I should buy it or not!
Go for it, it works fine on win11 using autocad 2024 and photoshop 2023. Also MS office 2021 works pefectly.
is 7010 micro capable to run continuously as workstation?
Sure it can, every single one of them I set up for clients are running 24/7. All of them are used least 5-6 day a week, 8-10 hours a day. On the other hand, they are sensitive for power cuts and quality of power.depending on what you are actually running on the pc it can get hot. Even when they are running 24/7 so far all of them lasted least 5-6 years or longer.
What do you think about putting a 4060 LP in it?
I would stay with the RTX 3050 OC, or switch to the mini tower . More space and better PSU options.
Thanks for the video! Great info on the 7020!
Glad it was helpful!
