Hey mate, I love the BYD content. I just put in an order for a Shark last month. Any word on whether the OEM dashcam can be installed on them? My thinking is that the Shark has an SD card reader according to the Shark user manual, so there's no need for that if it doesn't have the capability to have that dashcam. Anyway, it would be good to know!
At 16k kms thanks for reminding to rotate them. Have an AWD Seal and we drive it like we stole it! 👍🏻👍🏻
Cant wait for the Sealion 7. A Seal on stilts. Have a Seal Performance and traded a 21 330i in on it, couldn't beat the novated leasing benefits. Its not only well built, reliable, quiet, smooth, extremely roomy but fast. 0-100kmh with two passengers and a half full boot is a constant 3.8 seconds. Over and over. Cbarges fast at super fast chargers and easy to charge at home (1.2kw at home and free fast charging at work 7kw). If the Sealion 7 has the same drivetrain with 390kw, im sold. I said and always avoided Chinese made products but after a test drive in the Seal in April, we ordered it right away. Legacy automakers should be afraid, very afraid. 17k kms later and still loving it. Three things the 330i had that are missing on the Seal; a much better autonomous driving system, the roundel badge and driving dynamics. Everything else, it blows the BMW out of the water. It is faster than the i4 M50 for half the cost. That's value.
Amazing video !
This 8-in-1 concept I saw already in 2019 when I sneaked into BYD sales meeting in a nearby hotel. It was after 5PM so they were basically hanging around and checking out the large photos and talking about their plans. I saw they had talked about how many factories they were going to build and how to expand the product line upwards to compete with Audi and Mercedes. After that they have hired tens of thousands of engineers so who knows what they are up to. One thing that I noticed was that the manufacturing efficiency was marked #1 (with high quality). What made me giggle was "We will first beat VW in China and within 10 years in the whole world." That is not a laughing matter anymore. VW has more than 200 factories so think about how big BYD needs to be and how small VW has to become.
@@unclezeppy well they have beaten VW in China. VW was the highest selling brand in China for 15 years, BYD has taken their top spot in China for the first time this year.
Los japoneses haciendole ingenieria inversa a los coches chinos😂, luego dicen que japon tiene la mejor tecnologia?😮
Recently in the Philippines BYD just introduced the Seal 5 DM-i and its has made the splash upon its introduction especially for its price that starts around ₱948,000 (U$16,154.32) for the base variant.
For Context, at that price bracket that gets you a sub-compact like a Toyota Vios.
Also, the BYD Seal 5 DM-i is also known as the Destroyer 5 back in its homeland, BYD Chazor in Central Asia, and the BYD King in Latin America.
@@Claro1993 yes I watched the launch for it! I'm actually working on a video for it as we speak!
If you have decent insurance a not at fault claim has no excess and no impact on premiums or ratings. If your insurance policy doesn't do this it is crap and you should seek a different quality insurer. I recently had such a situation and it was no fuss and simple why would you want to bust a gut doing it yourself to save a dollar on insurance,
It's not exactly Phantom Braking. You can Switch off Front Cross Traffic Braking feature under AEB settings
You can't turn it off permanently, you have to turn it off everytime you turn on the car.
i bought one last month and has been a boon for me for driving to manila and back to pampanga. traffic barely affects battery life given my trip usually consists of a 3 hour drive one way. 1.2 hours expressway and the rest in manila traffic. another plus is ev exemption from number coding. so i can go to manila any weekday at any time without worry.
Just need to verify, can byd shark supply dc loads to caravans, ie anderson connection for caravan dcdc converter (fridge, battery charger). I'm not sure it can, most caravans and campers require this connection. I'm thinking most hybrid vehicles without alternator may have an issue supplying dc much over simple vehicle tail, stop and blinkers.
Love your videos, very informative and non biased. I purchased a BYD Seal Performance recently, I'm blown away by how good it is, I'm now looking at selling my ICE vehicle and buying a Sealion 6 which i think will be ideal for long and short trips without range anxiety, very clever system also the amount of tech and creature comforts you get at that price point is second to none, well done BYD😊
Thanks so much!
Appreciate the objectivity in your video. For that you have a new subscriber!
Love to see a real life use case camping it makes sense naww I'm about to buy my first new car ever and I'm not sure what to get 😂
It's interesting on BYDs servicing schedule it has a transfer case oil replacement... What bit is a transfer case in your diagram?
In india, BYD is launching Emax 7, 7 seater ev at an economical rate of rs 30 lakhs.. Is it the same vehicle u r discribing at present.. Anyway appreciate the professional way of ur comparison 👍👍
@@joseukken8136 thank you for the kind words 🙏 No this is a different vehicle. The Sealion 6 is 5 seat SUV. The BYD eMax 7 is known as the BYD M6 in other Asian markets, but it is not sold here in Australia.
I totally disagree with your recommendations regarding the 2 options. First option should always be to use your own insurance, this is what you pay insurance premiums for. Less hassle as you just lodge the claim and they do all of the recovery work on your behalf. Most insurers have faultless benefits now that gives you a hire car in not at fault claims, even if you didn't pay extra premium for unlimited cover, check your policy conditions. With the delay in getting parts now I would recommend taking the option, when buying the policy, for unlimited hire car coverage, as it is now common for repairs on almost any car to take weeks or even months to fix. Second option is approaching the at fault drivers insurer, assuming the liability is clear this should also be a relatively seamless process. Just check that they give the same type of lifetime warranty on repairs that your insurer does. I don't know why anybody would engage a lawyer in a straightforward car accident claim. This would just increase the overall costs which ultimately impacts everybody through higher premiums. The same goes for any of the recovery services that offer to manage the claim for you and provide a hire car. They are charging the insurers a much higher daily rate and this will flow through to higher premiums for all.
It's a catch 22 situation. Every party in these situations is going to act in their own best interests and that includes the likes of insurers/lawyers. Someone is going to win out in the end and its either going to you and/or one of the other parties. I agree that using your own insurer will likely be the least stressful option, but the issue I have with using my own insurer is that I don't believe they are acting in my interests over their own. This is particularly the case if the other party in the incident happens to be insured/underwritten by the same insurer. If this the case is your own insurer going to want to charge themselves to get a proper fix done? Or will they do the minimum required to achieve a lawful outcome? Having the repairer deal with the other parties insurer and dictating to them what it needed, or using a 3rd Party Recovery gives you some control in having your own interests met to a certain extent.
@@BeYonD-EV I don't agree with your implications that there are winners and losers in each claim. If you think your insurer is not looking after your interests then I suggest you may be with the wrong insurer. Each repair should be judged on its merits regardless of whether you are claiming directly or as a third party. In fact a claimant going through their own insurance is likely to be treated better if anything, as they have a contract in place with the insurer and possibly loyalty to the brand. In the old days it was common for third party claimants to not be given the benefit of the doubt for questionable damage, once again because there is no loyalty to take into account. This is probably less likely now as any authorised repair should get a lifetime warranty regardless of whether you are the insured or not. In regards to the repairer dealing with the insurer, the process is typically identical for the major insurers. The estimation, assessment and repair process typically follow the same steps. Third party recovery services add no real value anymore, their need goes back to the days when insurers only provided hire cars if you were insured with them and had taken the policy option. Now insurers generally offer not at fault hire cars for both insured and third parties as well as the option for unlimited hire car rental. The need for these services is now redundant and only result in increasing the overall cost of claims which comes back as higher premiums for everybody.
please cover why EV hybrids are prone to Fire vs even ICE and pure EVs
@@glennjv01 I'm interested to know too but I myself know little in the subject (aside from the numbers). EV Fire Safe would be the best source of material and data on it though.
Complex heavy and combine the worst attributes of both technologies is why.
A reason induction motors are used as a second motor is that they can freewheel without producing voltage that the inverter would need to deal with, so can be disabled as necessary to improve efficiency
Well pray for its speedy recovery. It's all part of god's plan.
Bugger! Not good news at all! I was at a dinner the other night and conversation went towards EVs. One of the guys there is an anti EV guy who also happen to be an NRMA vehicle assessor. Once we got past how they keep catching fire the conversation went to how repair shops are filled with BYDs that are awaiting parts for crash repair. It will be informative to see how BYD go supplying parts and whether or not this guy is full of it. Good luck.
You can go through your own insurer and they fix your car and your insurer claims from the other party (you need their details though). You don't have to wait and get dicked around by the insurance company of the at fault party. If you have the other guys details an dthey are found to be at fault you shouldn't have any excess to pay.
That is what I did when my Seal was hit in February. Gave my insurance company all the detail and they sorted it out.
I got rear ended last week too. I was stuck in traffic and a bus hit me from behind. Of course, I claimed from the bus' insurance. I sent my car for inspection at the local dealership and they said they will replace my bonnet and rear bumper. The parts may take about 1 or 2 months 😅
@@AverageBruneian Sheen panel service said parts could come in 2 days or it could come in 2 months, really depends on the part. They did have about 20 odd BYDs sitting inside the facility, a few getting worked on, and I assume the rest are waiting on parts. Did you have to leave the car with them? And did they give you a hire car?
@@BeYonD-EV they let me take my car home since the part is not coming any time soon 😂
Sounds concerning to me, that they have that many BYD EVs sitting and waiting for parts. Seems like a bit of a red light to me.
@@JoeyBlogs007 It's somewhat expected considering we are talking about a maker that's only been in Australia for 3 years. But I could be wrong, might not have been waiting parts, could just be waiting to get worked on. They also had a lot of BYD parts on the shelf ready to go but only 3 cars being worked on. So could just be lack of workspace/staff
From FB Group, majority of photos published are rear end damage. tailgating a Seal to get a better look?
It's those LED matrix tail lights...sends you into a trance 😵💫
I think there is plenty of interest in this topic but creating a series of videos to cover this is ludicrous. Really not considering your viewers time are you?
If it got accessed, repaired and finished in a week this would be one video. But it won't. Viewers time was one of the top considerations I made when posting this video. This is why it is the shortest video I have uploaded to the channel...because I know that it will take more the one video to completely cover it.
Viewers can decide whether to watch or not 🤷♂
@@BeYonD-EV Its your channel and you can do it as you wish. Viewers will watch or not as they wish. I will try and pick up what happens because I am interested. You clearly have done a lot of work on the topic, so your thoughts are definitely welcome to me at least. All I was suggesting is get the details together (i.e. get it fixed) and them present the process, your experience etc. in a single video. You don't have to do that, just my suggestion. Maybe, to make up for lost content opportunities, you can do a regular update in your up coming videos? I don't know, I was just being honest about how it occurred to me. Maybe such comments are not welcome - no problem, I am happy to be quiet. I'll still follow the videos regardless.
@@MiniLuv-1984 no please do leave comments and suggestions. I've said it before, I take all suggestions on board. The intent for this video was to start a mini series where I will post short update videos about the repair as they occur. Doing it this way will provide a true time line of events as they happen.
@@BeYonD-EV I might yet eat my words then...:)
David do you own any Digital Coins (crypt0)? If yes, which ones?
No I don't, never really got into it.
0:57 should have screamed out a “nnnnnooooooooooooo….” 😄 as long as everyone in your car and other car were safe, end of the day it’s just money
I was screaming it in my mind 😫
My BYD Seal also got rear-ended about a month ago, and it's still in the body shop currently. The other driver accepted responsibility and their insurance covered the costs. Although the body shop is not one of the approved BYD third party panel shops, the owner mentioned that they have worked on BYDs (and they had one in the shop that I saw that got repaired recently). I'm using a temporary hire car (hiring costs covered for by the other driver's insurance) and it's a Tesla Model Y. I'm enjoying it while I can but I still do miss my Seal...
I had a walk through the Sheen in Cheltenham and they had about 20 BYD's there and a heaps of BYD parts around but I think they were allocated to vehicles. It def came across they knew what they are doing when it comes to BYD repairs.
@@BeYonD-EV Did they give you an estimated time frame for repairs?
@@BrandonHermanto-so7ll They said it depends on the part. Some parts could take 2 days, some 2 months. They couldn't give me an estimate until they get the go ahead from insurance that they can commence repairs so then they will take a good look and figure out exactly what needs to be done. I will get a hire car through and it will be an EV, not sure what EV though.
Come on people how gullible are you all, just search you tube, BYD is the worst Chinese car manufactures in the world, and airbag don’t go off in an accident, they burn often, mechanical faults and the list goes on, all research able if you bother to look, these you tube channels pushing this shit have zero credibility!
Got any evidence of that happening outside of China? Like any at all? Or are you just talking about the vids from China Insider and Serpanza who are completely bias towards their opinion of anything from China? I have driven close to 20,000km in a BYD Seal that I own. I have posted many videos of my car and my opinions of it. I have pulled panels off it, seen it from the inside and out. I know how it works and how well it is built. How many km have you, Serpanza and the faceless guys that run China Insider driven? Between me, you and the xenophobic YT creators who just repost unsubstansiated zero context vids and then post their own opinion over it....who is the one that is gullible and actually lacking credibility here?
I just can't unsee the low profile tires, if i drive it in my home town Borneo island it'll be destroyed within 2 weeks.
BYD also have SUVs based on this platform I think. That should work better I think. There’s this super rich Chinese car reviewer called ”DCar” or something that they did a high temperature gravel road test in Chinese desert. Hard to understand because it’s all Chinese but man it’s very comprehensive!

@@adswu2008 I own one and have driven nearly 20,000km in it. It is the highest quality car I have personally owned, not one issue with it.
@BeYonD-EV you clearly didn't own very good cars then
@@adswu2008 and you've clearly never owned a BYD Seal 😁 Go take a used one for a test drive. I honestly think you'll be genuinely surprised by the build and ride quality.
according western concept, if you learning things from others is called stealing. then western countries stole china's gun powder tech, made guns and canons and invaded countries after countries. there is no bullets there is no fireworks without china's gun powder as foundation, yet when china learn things from others, they are stealing. double standard. be real about it, the whole American history is similar to a short dynasty if you look back in history. just another era, if you fall just work hard for another 400 years everything will turn around again.
Great review ...thoughtful and clear explanation of the Shark's tech. I want one ...
Do they put these cars back together afterwards, or is that the end?
what year was your falcon? what happens if you have a roll over with a glass roof?
@@namenotshown9277 2010. Glass breaks. But given the weight of the battery so low to the ground, it would take quite the accident for the car to roll over.
And here's my issue with it, i think the way its build doesn't matter cuz if japan makes the same car, byd seal, it would still cost twice as much, it comes down to the fact that China owns the supply chain, they make down to the single screw in house, hence why they may exceed China in technology but they will never be that cheap.
China has comprehensively overtaken Japan in terms of EV technology as well. Toyota is beginning to buy BYD batteries for their cars.
BYD needs to build the shark in the USA they would sell them as fast as they could build them. Once Americans figure out they are better truck than most of the choices we have now ,which are overpriced and oversized. We need more choices in the US.
Wish they showed the dissembling of the battery pack
Come on, copy is good!Don't tell me you have not used copy books to learn writing, and using AI for researching now.
Why is the music so much louder than you voice?
@@edhirxtrastrange yeh my bad, I got the levels wrong and didn't normalise it enough. Sounded ok my speakers at home but people have been mentioning the music a bit.
China is world no 1 now
No thank you - - too much cheap electronics that can fail.
As a budget, yellow pack brand, they should retail at 9,999, especially with a name and no brand.
No need for the bots BYD, you may actually have a winner for this category, I'm in the outback and use a Jimny for the fun stuff, this is the perfect ute for everything else! Just drop the price a little more please!
A real radiator cooling the battery? I like to break that open water and electric . Also why it has 10 minute charging to 80%
