My German marque which I bought brand new is rattling after 6 years and 26,000km. They really don't make them like they used to. Planned obsolescence or something.

HI, BYD owner here, just done 11K in an Atto3. I find voice control for the aircon much superior to the clunky screen controls. It is also safer due to not taking your eyes off the road. I would love the Seal but the Atto is more practical for carting stuff around.
This is something I was going to mention as I’ve seen people use it in videos and it works well. It is also something that takes time to adapt to, like SIRI on the iPhone, we have but most don’t use it.
I have had my Seal Premium for three months and it is really a great car. I don't know why some people are complaining about beeps and bongs as I don't get any at all on most days. The key is to disable speed limit warning or just mute it and it is totally quiet. It stops you from getting into trouble by mistake and I am glad it did so a few times. Build quality is really good with no rattling or other unwanted sounds. One of the best cars I have ever driven or owned in the last 40 years.

Child detection warning can be gotten around by putting it in showroom mode = hold Mode and left arrow (with aircon) or right arrow (no aircon) for 10 secs 👍 To get out of it do the same again and then switch on as normal.
Thanks for your videos. I will be taking delivery of my Shadow Green Excellence AWD in a few weeks. I’ve ordered a few of the parts you suggested (storage box and camera) and I am really looking forward to driving it.
We found out recently that you can just tell the assistant to turn on seat heaters and it's zonal so if herself says it, turns on passenger side and same on mine. Most AC commands can be spoken but use two finger slide horizontally on screen for fan speed and vertically for temperature. Atto 3 btw, can't be that different.
Yep I have only used voice controls to turn seat heating on or off. It's the easiest way to do it for the seats. It's just AC controls that are finicky, not so simple for AC controls and you can't control the fan direction through voice. You can turn the rear window defrost on via voice though which makes it much easier.
I absolutely hate the child presence detention to the point where i laterally would NOT have purchased the car had I known i could not turn it off permanently. I constantly carry stuff in my car. Stupid "feature" for the
The child detection is the thing I dislike most. First time it happened to me, I had no idea what was going on. Now I just always ensure I keep the car on if I'm going to be sitting in it for a while. Definitely should be able to turn it off permanently - my youngest child is 20, I'll never have young children in my car. Surely if it was an ANCAP requirement, then it would be a requirement for all cars to have it.
Just a quick point about vision on the driver screen. I'm 180cm and always like my seat in the lowest setting. With the steering wheel set correctly I can see all of the driver screen. Works well for me. Extremely happy with my Premium having done 18K since December. Best car I've ever owned.
A friend of mine bought a Seal Performance & loves how much go it’s got at the same time his best mat purchased a Tesla Model 3 Performance. The Tesla has had 4 software updates bringing new features but the Seal OTA’s haven’t arrived yet. The other disappointment is the lack of regen braking & one pedal driving. I own a 22 Tesla M3LR which at the time was pretty much the only decent EV & would probably buy a Seal today purely on price even though I don’t think it’s as good as the Tesla. Phantom braking is affecting all new cars so it’s not a BYD issue
@@peterburdett8131 the regen and OPD I believe is a feature, and not an issue, of BYD cars. They deliberately do not add it to any of their cars, not because they can't, but they just don't do it. No one has really explained why...Maybe a point of difference for them to maintain? Not sure.
@@BeYonD-EV If you've ever been in traffic in any major Chinese city (Shanghai for example) you 100% could not rely on OPD to stop the car! I personally don't see it as an issue. I'm not really interested in any feature that takes over the cars controls from me - THE DRIVER! - sure...help me, warn me etc, but do not take over. I'd never let go of the wheel and not be looking/paying attention of the road ahead for example like some Tesla muppets you hear about...
I like how Audi setup their system to be able to coast and you apply the brakes or, use the paddle to activate 2 levels of regen. I used it like downshifting when coming to a stop, then deactivated when stopped. I tried the one pedal driving in a friend’s Tesla, I preferred the Audi way.
Just had my 5000 service on my performance, apparently Mycar said nearly every performance that’s been checked has a leaking front motor, apparently it’s a faulty gasket or not enough gasket glue applied, keen to know if anyone else has had this issue, aside from that it’s been great so far, I agree the fantom breaking is a pain especially when driving around a corner where a parked car might be , it hits the breaks every time.
I used too at roundabouts, it was bad. BUt the recent update fixed that, now I get it just slowing down to T intersections. Not as dangerous (it doesnt stop me in the middle of the intersection like it did at roundabouts!) but still jarring when it happens.
Thanks for your review. Waiting for the latest 2025 Seal. It has manual vents adjustment and sun shades. One question...what is your average consumption ?
25.000km on mine, not very satisfied with it. Software is still meh and still no fix for the lagg in the gas pedal. The hardware is ok but there's so many issues with the car and as a EV it misses alot of boxes to be ticked in. Chassie is too soft in the front, It's like driving a suv. Thought this would be better on the awd with "active suspension" but nothing active about them.
@@namenotshown9277 2010. Glass breaks. But given the weight of the battery so low to the ground, it would take quite the accident for the car to roll over.
The problem of child detection alarm you mentioned, I think it is the car alarm. I notice if you keep the car turn on and sitting in the car the alarm will not get triggered. I know with the car turn on means the daylight is on, but you can switch that off in the setting.
@@bobl168 it's definitely the CDW. If I deactivate the CDW before turning the car off it doesn't happen. Only happens if I leave it on and turn the car off. I have since just started leaving the car on if someone is in the car. It's just weird to get used to doing that coming from an ICE car!
I have a BYD Seal Premium and I have to turn Child Detection off every ignition cycle. However my wife has the Sealion 6 and in her car it stays off permanently.
New subscriber here , interested in my first EV, wanting a sedan as im not into the suv, can you tell me your home electricity provider that offers your overnight tarif, thankyou.😊
Sure, it's AGL. Both AGL and OVO offer 'EV Night Tariffs' of 8c/kw. Peak and off peak tariffs differ from location to location though so just need to compare and see what's better for you. Get the 8c tariff and a 7kw charger installed, then you can charge about 45% of the battery in that 6hr window and it will only cost you about $2.88 for it!
I am interested by your “peeves”, as I had noted most of them on the test drives I have done. You are right, it seems most of them are fixable via OTA updates. I took a Sealion 6 for a test drive and its driver display is much easier to see and has a visor over it. It’s a shame they didn’t do the same thing in the Seal since they are from the same family. It’s going to be changed in next year’s Seal anyway. An update which also includes manual vents as well (if the renders shown in one of your earlier videos are accurate). If the HUD was a bit more info rich, it wouldn’t matter so much about the corners of the driver’s display being obscured by the steering wheel.
I should have mentioned in the video (I didn't realise until I watched it after uploading)...I can't see the top half of the dash because the steering wheel is in the way. There is no glare or anything like that. I could move the steering wheel out the way, but then its not in what i feel is the optimal position for me. The Seal comes with 2 dash cluster layout options already...so different layout options are possible, if they make one that puts the info at the the top of the screen, to the bottom of the screen instead, that would fix that for everyone else who faces the same problem.
It comes with a 2kw charging cable as standard. One that you plug into a normal wall socket. Which can work in a pinch but it is very slow. Better off getting a type2 to type2 value so you can use all faster chargers on long trips.
For the Dash cluster stuff, have you tried the Simple version? Most of the pertinent info is lower on the screen in that mode. I'm the same height and have my steering wheel lower too so I changed to that mode and I can see everything.
I have the same issue. The car is designed for shorter ppl and the screen doesn't follow the steering wheel when adjusting so it gets blocked. I'm 178cm.
Hard to say depending on what is important to you. But for me, only reason I'd pick the Model Y is if I definitely need boot space, the boot in the Seal is pretty small. But if you prefer comfort, ride and materials then the Seal. Y has a bigger cabin, but I've had no issues travelling with 5 people in my Seal comfortably. I myself picked the Seal for my circumstances.
Defo agree the UI needs to be made simpler and less clunky. In the meantime, with regards to seat memory and AC controls, don't the voice commands work?
The AC controls work via voice yes, as so heated and cooled seating which is a bonus...but not the seat memory settings. Which is a big oversight in my opinion as that would also fix the issue.
The things I don't like about my awd seal: ac can't cope with fogging windows, lag in pedals, comfort braking mode is dangerous as even slamming the brakes you still don't stop, no one pedal driving, no driver profiles, no tru keyless, no battery preheating, bad maps updates, sluggish chassie, no way to know or set rwd, handles get stuck in winter half way out, not a tru 800v system, low fast charging speed, rapid gates at 52 degrees battery temp, messy ui, buttons sometimes doesn't react/work, the "autopilot" is very bad and cannot be trusted, no defrosting from the app, no app sharing possible, even logged in to the app you still need a 6 digit password to tur the ac on etc, slow ota, no feedback or answers from byd on issues, headlights turn on when activating preheated cabin from the app or key, lockingbutton on the boot doesn't work with phonekey, heating rear window is weak and doesn't work cery good in the winter...I'm selling the car as soon as my 1 year is up. Been drivin different EV brands for 10 y now so this isn't really my first and drive about 4-50.000/km yearly.
As far a stock OEM sound system goes I think it is actually pretty good. You need to fiddle with the EQ to get right for your music tastes though. I have heard of other owners not too happy with it in certain genres. I listen to a lot of techno and hip hop and for that I think it is pretty awesome for it.

Got a SEAL U (a.k.a. Song Plus in China) here. CPD is a mess indeed. I'm not asking for the child protection detection to be turned off permanently though. It simply needs to work correctly and not go off even when nothing is left in the car on any of the seats. The detection, presumably based on pressure sensors in the seats, is way too sensitive. Nothing a software update shouldn't be able to fix but apparently not done yet because I see BYD owners of every model (Atto 3, Sea Lion, Seal, Seal U, Han, ...) complaining about this.
Just been told my new Seal Premium is 2-3 months away, possibly later. BYD suggests this isn't abnormal for new car imports into Australia, and other makes project even longer delays. As the 2025 has just been released in China, it makes me wonder if it's worth waiting 2-3 months for a car that's just been superseded. Maybe it's worth waiting *6 months* for the 2025 model to be in my hands.
That 2025 Seal hasn't been developed for RHD yet. So there is no indication of when that will happen and therefore when it will actually get to us here in Australia.
We will be one of the first markets to get the new 2025 due to the fact they are built out of the Chinese factories and we are one of the only countries that don't have tariffs on Chinese built cars. The rest of the world ie US and UK are getting theirs from factories outside of China
I novated my Tesla in December last year and then got laid off in July. Monthly premiums went from $800 pm to almost $2000 pm. While I love that it can save you so much money, I think the government needs to step in and do something about the unethical practices of leasing companies. If I want to settle my car early the leasing company will still add all their fees for the duration of the lease term, making the car cost more than a brand new model y. On a different note, the BYD’s are really cool. I’m just not a fan of their service schedules. Also not too keen on the infotainment UI.
@@69memnon69 yeah, that's my concern about NL as well. It's not for everyone, and it should be mandatory that leasing companies tell customers what the lease will be, and what the exit options are, if the lease is no longer novated.

Got byd performance I had to use eco mode. As normal mode already like sport. Easy to get a speeding ticket😅
I have a performance model and did the first 2000km in eco to get used to it befor normal mode, haven't tried sport mode yet.
Child detection warning can be gotten around by putting it in showroom mode = hold Mode and left arrow (with aircon) or right arrow (no aircon) for 10 secs 👍 To get out of it do the same again and then switch on as normal.
mate thank you for the great content ,new king byd,
Thank you for the kind words mate! Really means a lot! 🙏
Great review. You raise issues that most reviewers don't.
Thanks for your videos. I will be taking delivery of my Shadow Green Excellence AWD in a few weeks. I’ve ordered a few of the parts you suggested (storage box and camera) and I am really looking forward to driving it.
@@stephane8200 So lucky! We don't get the green colour down here in Australia. I think it's one of BYDs best paint colours!
@@BeYonD-EV I didn’t even know that. I (or we) chose the colour because it stands out without being too much. It’s even a metallic colour.
Nicely done review!! Appreciate your work!
Thanks mate 🙏 Much appreciated!
I absolutely hate the child presence detention to the point where i laterally would NOT have purchased the car had I known i could not turn it off permanently. I constantly carry stuff in my car. Stupid "feature" for the
Agree. Software is bad on the seal.
I tried the one pedal driving in a friend’s Tesla, I preferred the Audi way.
there's plenty of regen - it comes in as you squeeze the brake pedal.
The 2025 seal version will be awsome
I'm looking to replace my SV6, so this is a handy comparison with your XR6
You mention t-intersection phantom braking. Have you had issues (reported by others on FB pages) with it braking in roundabouts?
I used too at roundabouts, it was bad. BUt the recent update fixed that, now I get it just slowing down to T intersections. Not as dangerous (it doesnt stop me in the middle of the intersection like it did at roundabouts!) but still jarring when it happens.
Thanks for your review. Waiting for the latest 2025 Seal. It has manual vents adjustment and sun shades. One question...what is your average consumption ?
@@jimmyng6677 no problem! My avg consumption is about 15kw/100k
Thought this would be better on the awd with "active suspension" but nothing active about them.
what year was your falcon? what happens if you have a roll over with a glass roof?
@@BeYonD-EV thankyou very much ☺️
It's not exactly Phantom Braking. You can Switch off Front Cross Traffic Braking feature under AEB settings
You can't turn it off permanently, you have to turn it off everytime you turn on the car.
Don't rely on ota, byd is notorious bad at ota and fixing their software.
Got a sealion 6 coming for the mrs hope its good ive got 2 v8 cars so still an old dinosaur 😂😂
Considering to get one , does the car come with mobile charging unit/device that I can use in long distance trips ?
It comes with a 2kw charging cable as standard. One that you plug into a normal wall socket. Which can work in a pinch but it is very slow. Better off getting a type2 to type2 value so you can use all faster chargers on long trips.
For the Dash cluster stuff, have you tried the Simple version? Most of the pertinent info is lower on the screen in that mode. I'm the same height and have my steering wheel lower too so I changed to that mode and I can see everything.
Not a bad idea, I will try it out
I have the same issue. The car is designed for shorter ppl and the screen doesn't follow the steering wheel when adjusting so it gets blocked. I'm 178cm.
Hello, thanks for update, I'm thinking of either a Tesla model Y or the Seal, what are you thoughts on this?
Hard to say depending on what is important to you. But for me, only reason I'd pick the Model Y is if I definitely need boot space, the boot in the Seal is pretty small. But if you prefer comfort, ride and materials then the Seal. Y has a bigger cabin, but I've had no issues travelling with 5 people in my Seal comfortably. I myself picked the Seal for my circumstances.
Y is a more mature EV.
Hi guys, what about the sound system ?
As far a stock OEM sound system goes I think it is actually pretty good. You need to fiddle with the EQ to get right for your music tastes though. I have heard of other owners not too happy with it in certain genres. I listen to a lot of techno and hip hop and for that I think it is pretty awesome for it.
@@BeYonD-EV many thanks. I've heard the premium version comes with a Dynaudio system that is made in Sweeden. Seems your version is a lower quality one that comes with the one motor Seal. Warm regards though
@@lazaro2710 Mine is the Premium and it has the Dynaudio system in it.
What part of the world are you in? The BYD Seal is available in 4 different trims in total around the world, but only some are available in some markets. We have 2 RWD models in Australia and my one is the Premium RWD version. There is only 1 RWD version in Europe which only comes with base features.
@@BeYonD-EV Hi Again, ok, we agree that is the premium which brings the dynaudio system, and so nice you like it. I'm in Costa Rica and will try to get the same Premium with 2 motors. Just a quick additional thing the car has a "no like issue": the radar alert for the center of the front is not there, only in the angles of the front, so you depend on the camera for not hit for example a small device in the straight front of your car. Don't know if the camera us fully dependable though. I have driven the car AND LOVE IT, great quality and comfortable. Warm regards Lazaro

Nothing a software update shouldn't be able to fix but apparently not done yet because I see BYD owners of every model (Atto 3, Sea Lion, Seal, Seal U, Han, ...) complaining about this.
say easy to fix with OTA but it didn't get fix after so long...
Maybe u need to wait 1 year or more.
We will be one of the first markets to get the new 2025 due to the fact they are built out of the Chinese factories and we are one of the only countries that don't have tariffs on Chinese built cars. The rest of the world ie US and UK are getting theirs from factories outside of China
Ill passand get the g6
Does BYD have SUV?
Yes they do! A few! Sealion 6 and Sealion 7, the Song Plug and Song L to name a few
Now do a story on a BYD showroom catching on fire in China and their inventory all destroyed.
@@unknownuser6809 Why? Are BYD the first car company in history to have a dealership burn down or something? What's the hook?
@@BeYonD-EV Urge for sensation probably...
