Looks really cool, what 3d software do you use?
your game looks amazing, do you do any tutorials in Zbrush or unreal?
Looks insanely good, awesome that only one person made this
Very informative thanks for making this
For a game made by almost a single person, it looks extremely impressive, man! Like genuinely I wish you luck on this project!!
Your game looks amazing! I am so jelous, you UE4 devs make your games look so good
You did what I wanted to do 7 years ago great work! All the jumping parts presented in the video feels like a real challange while most of the time these 2D jump and runs often feel like just trying to kill some time without providing anything challenging
I loved this style
Looks awesome, hope it will be a success.
You also got to make money. Mass appeal is a thing. I believe different modes are a thing.
I hate how cool you are . Productivity and skill levels off the scale.
Just discovered your channel. Your arts look so beautiful!
Thank you
4 years later... still not out.
This looks increadible and even much more when you realize is a solo indie dev behind it!! Just curious, what is your background?? I mean, are you just a hobbyst or did you worked in the game industry before??
I worked on CoD and Ghost of Tsushima as an environment artist for a bit. But ultimately decided to learn how to do everything myself, Character/Rigging/Animation/Programming/VFX/Audio. Took too long to learn it all haha still lots to learn.
Seems like a totally chill relaxing game without ghouls or undead trying to kill you 😃
looks cool
DAMMMN that cover art looks sick!! do you plan on relesing a phisical copy or why is it vertical?
The cover art is a wide format, but I wanted to have a piece that was versatile that I could do a physical release without having to rework it. I'd love to do a physical release if the digital version is successful enough. I don't know how much it costs to do a physical release. I'm just taking it step by step
@@officialgrimwaregamesllc I would love to have that sitting in my game collection
do you plan of utilising the wagon for gameplay purposes it looks very "for-groundy" in my opinion
At the beginning of every level, a traveling witch will trade in your ectoplasm for upgrades/weapon types and at every activated checkpoint you can swap your upgrades. The upgrade system currently works, but its deactivated in the demo for now. The witch needs some reworking/animation and dialog menu system. Kinda like in Resident Evil 4 and 8 merchant guy. Whataya buyin
@@officialgrimwaregamesllc ohhhhh, that sounds GREAT
Insane
That looks soo good :o
Thank you!
This looks like it would look awesome on an HDR DISPLAY
yaaaah!
I still wonder what that carriage is for.

@officialgrimwaregamesllc Will it be a cute, attractive witch or a traditionally ugly one? 😬
Looking good as always!
Thank you! ehh not always haha, I think I criticize my own work a lot. Step back like 6 feet from the monitor and look again.
Everything is looking amazing, My friend.
Thank you!
Looks absolutely beautiful!
Thank you!
Nice. I'd sit and chill there for a while
It probably smells funky in there.
Is there a reason why you created an LLC, I mean yes by the end of the game an LLC to be a company just wondering if that is required while you are just creating your game, couldn't you technically just do that at the very end. Game finished, time to create the company around it, and release it (or do you have a library of other games under the LLC, just a new guy here on your channel wondering). It however makes so much sense now how good you are, with your prior background!.. It's wishlisted already.
I'd consult a lawyer as I'm not one. But my reasons were: Creating an LLC gives you Limited Liability Protections. Separating your personal assets from your business liabilities. If you face any legal issues or debts your personal belongings like your car are protected unless the corporate veil is pieced. Having the game be under the banner of the company and being able to hire a contractor is also easier this way for legal paperwork, as well as trademarking and name protection.
@@officialgrimwaregamesllc thank you for the response, I can see how this would be needed when you start publicly announce your game, its a serious project not just a flash game on newgrounds portal 😊
I wonder how this game looks if you lift off that "fuzzy dreamy" look that's kinda always overlaying the game.. I've been binging your videos up to the latest ;D
When you are making these test levels, do you always start by just blockign them out like that, or is this just your "dev" level whatever it is called, basically wondering if this is your "dev server". I've seen quite a few having these "Grid boxes" is this something you made, or is this some asset that comes with Unreal/Unity type engines. Just curious, I haven't gone much into any of this but its fascinating, Im more or less a Systems administrator, but I dabbled in Unity few years ago nothing that "stuck"
First I test enemies in isolation in a testing level...Then I design ideas on grid paper of encounters with enemies and how they can possibly play out. Labeling encounters Easy, Medium, Hard. Then I design the level and enemy placement/Interactables...Basically only things that the player would interact with is greyboxed...test it out...if its fun to me and a few of my friends then I proceed to art it out. Easier to change stuff when its grey boxed than if you have 200 assets you move around.
@@officialgrimwaregamesllc thank you so much for this, the grey box did you create it like a tile asset or is this a placeholder u can find within these programs, I ask because they look smooth like you tile em out and ive seen others exactly have these gray boxes.. thank you btw for taking ur time to answer your comment section, it is appreciated 🙏
@@67steinip Its been a while, but check out...Supergrid on the unreal marketplace...I remember buying it like 8 years ago maybe and modified the material for my needs.
Hey man! Shout out to you! This looks awesome I can't wait to try the demo and play it for myself. This is the coolest thing I've seen today! I'd love to see more devlops on this! A tribute to ghouls and ghosts! Kudos! Love it so much!
Thank you!
This games art direction is amazing !
Thank you
The is looking great. If you have any game art tutorials I’d love to buy them too.
I think at the end of Devlog 0 or 1 I have a section at the end that has some resources on game art. I don't personally make tutorials, but there are many resources out there, Artstation, Gumroad, Gnomon Workshop, and youtube all have great tutorials.
This is insane!... Wow you got a subscriber.. Im still wondering if this ia 2D platformer or 3D, It boggles the mind, the art is amazing.. I havent played it at all, Im just in awe by a apparently a one man show doing all of this work!.,
Thank you for the kind words. Yeah its a lot of work. As far as 2d or 3D its 3D using Unreal Engine 4.
@@officialgrimwaregamesllc got it, its like Crash Bandicoot (Bonus levels). Its 3D but modtly sort of in 2D side scroller.. Ill follow the process, I cant get over the quality and the improvements when u view the first videos as they evolve.. good luck getting this game out.. Im gonna wish list it next time i open my steam (on phone now)
@@67steinip Yeah or like Donkey Kong Country Returns in some ways. Using a 3D assets but locking them onto a 2D plane so they can't move in the Y axis Forward backwards...
what the ? this game looks too good to be true. amazing character design the game juice is flowing and the art is looking crisp.
Working hard to make it good and true. haha
congratulations, at the same time the game feels totally original it always reminds me of raymon, maybe because the childish look
Man i've been following you for few months and your work is just an inspiration, i am curious about the game assets, do you make them low poly and handpaint on them or you sculpt them then export the normals to the low poly then handpaint them to get that broken edge look, also is there tutorials you can suggest to get environment to look that good inside the engine?
Depends on the assets, for characters I sculpt in Zbrush, bake in Substance painter, then handpaint over it in 3D coat Environment assets, some I sculpt in Zbrush, some I paint directly in Photoshop and put them on alpha cards for background elements, some are tiling textures so I just map them onto the 3D object as needed. Tutorials, there's tons on youtube as well as Artstation and Gumroad. I think either my 1st or second devlog, I mentioned a few specifics?
@@officialgrimwaregamesllc Thank you, i have a loooooong way to go
Absolutely phenomenal looking game and all the best for Steam Next Fest! So happy to see that you got accepted for Mega Grants and I wish you all the best bro!!💌
Thank you so much! Haha pressure is on!
Wow! This is one awesome game. The game itself looks super beautiful and polished. The gameplay looks really fun too. Also the environment and character models are spot on. I really like the stage progression being shown when you lose rather then number of deaths. That really does make one feel that they can do better. Also really like the new skeleton enemy idea. It reminds me of the old school Prince of Persia's skeleton enemy. Your game deserved the grants. Best of luck in getting your game ready for Next Fest! Keep it up! :)
Remember you only get 1 Next Fest entry so you prefer to enter when your closer to finishing and your Demo is really polished and represents a the product the best so you can ride the wish lists quickly into purchases. In regards to load times you should look at using Soft References using ASync Loading instead of Hard References as much as possible and cutdown on Casts in Blueprints between classes which are not constantly tightly linked because that causes Hard References and Reference Chains where all the references Classes and all their variables (Mesh, Textures, SFX, VFX) are auto loaded into memory as soon (mostly / oversimplification) as one of the classes in the chain are loaded.
Thanks for the tip! I'll look into that. Appreciate the advice!
@@officialgrimwaregamesllcanywhere you’ve implemented a cast aside from animation blueprints id look into replacing it with an interface. It will help significantly with blueprint communication
@@jb2760 I'll look through the code, I think I already do a lot of that or use tags with blueprint interface. But I'm sure more things can be optimized.
looks very exciting! congrats on that grant too!! \o/
Thank you!
i feel like making the spectral armor look heavier would be a good way for players to naturally feel like it makes sense that they cant dash when its activated, as opposed to it being an arbitrary debuff
good idea, like making the animation feel heavier, and having an anim for like a "failed attempt at dash"
