    Brass was Jaeger

    Percussion was a combo of Nucleus and East West Quatum Leap
    And a bit of Omnisphere

    I don’t think people realize how long music takes to make, or quite how impressive it is that you wrote all of this. Especially introducing different time signatures and motifs. Phenomenal!

    • @officialgrimwaregamesllc
      @officialgrimwaregamesllc  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Thanks for noticing the time signature stuff haha love that 7/8 - It was definitely hard I pretty much sat at the DAW every day for a good 12 hours every day -
      Keeping the motif relatively simple and repeatable was key, just a Cm chord arpeggiated, throwing in a sharp 4 ending it on a D which can be harmonized with a V chord in Cminor - So many days I kept thinking about a scene from Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny where they drew a pentagram in ketchup around a tape-recorder and were like "masterpiece is right in there cmon the magic only lasts a second" Cuz just nothing was coming to me and I found quiet times away from the piece helped me to kinda imagine how it continues.

      @@officialgrimwaregamesllc unfortunately that sounds about right, doing music on your own, especially composing, even once the piece is written it’s not done because you have to spend time balancing the volume for a mix and listening to it on different speakers. I liked the marching nature of the "tutorial" variation. It feels like that could work well for title music too. In my head I'm seeing the floating logo stuck to the camera as it trucks forward through an endless swamp, casting light on the trees and graves. I suppose a plodding Danny Elfman-esque "bom bom, bom bom" variation could also work for that.

    Hello, your devlogs are very informative and I love watching them. I was wondering if you could dedicate a video to more detailed process on composing the music. The tools your used and maybe reference any resources you used to learn how to use them effectively. Thank again and... great work

    • @officialgrimwaregamesllc
      @officialgrimwaregamesllc  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      So in this video I mentioned the tools I used, FL Studio and the different orchestral sample libraries are in the description. I talked about the resources towards the second half of the video as far as youtube channels where I learned about production. As far as music theory I learned in college and is pretty involved there's many different youtube channels that are dedicated to music theory and how certain chords follow others and how certain scales give you a specific feeling.
      You can search for music theory. Rick Beato, 8bit Music theory, 12tone, In The Mix, Guy Michelmore, Marc Jovani, Zack Heyde, many many more educational channels out there on youtube alone.
      As far as inspiration, I am a big fan of orchestral film music, John Williams and Danny Elfman, Early 20th century music like Igor Stavinsky his 1913 piece the Rite of Spring. Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Berlioz, Schubert, Debussy, Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Holst, all great references. Game music inspirations for me has been everything Koji Kondo does. Nobuo Uematsu I love as well.
      As far as the process, I don't really have a specific process I go to. I generally have a feeling I want to evoke and I just mess around with a scale until I come up with a melody I like, then figure out the accompaniment using the principals of music theory. I would say the channels I mentioned above are probably better than what I can do as far as music education goes, I'm not exactly a music educator channel, I'm just doing dev-logs while I'm solo-deving my indie game and music is just another puzzle piece of the game. I think they can do more justice to the subject you're looking for.

    Very talented man! A bit of a selfish idea for a video. I am currently in AAA design and want to go indie one day (when the stars align), the biggest thing as I'm sure you're aware is going into full production. So it would be cool to see your process for creating art assets and texturing. I'm trying to learn a good workflow for time efficiency and good quality way of making assets. Since I'm a designer this isn't my strongest suit. I know its dependent on the type of game but a there could still be some good takeaways from your process. It would also be cool to see how you're doing the systems and logic of the game. Keep he vids coming! (I continued to watch before commenting and you went over the art aspect of what I was asking for)

    • @officialgrimwaregamesllc
      @officialgrimwaregamesllc  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I can talk a bit about that sure, yeah I mean the art pipeline really depends on your game needs, if its a realistic game, you'll need a different pipeline than if its Handpainted. Every project needs something different depending on the circumstances. Which a lot of that will be more Pre-Production I think, then adjust the pipeline as you see fit to save time and resources. But I'll talk about it with regards to Ghost Knight.

      So you're probably looking for a DAW Digital Audio Workstation - like Reaper is free, I believe Garageband is also free. But you also require VST's Virtual Instruments or sample libraries, so when you play your midi keyboard - it triggers the sound within the DAW. I use FL Studio which isn't free but is relatively affordable for their base version. I just am too much of an enthusiast of music software/sample libraries especially orchestral ones. I'm always on a look out for sales from Native instruments, audio imperia, spitfire audio, stuff like that.

    @rayzain7686 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Maybe an interesting idea for music is that the music can relate to the type of theme you are in. I mean the best example of this is in Oddworld Abes Exodus that certain background noises incorporate the music. Such as Slig Barracks, where you can hear some form of bullet firing matching up with the music as well as military drums. In Feco Depo it is massively vacant but also kind of busy with cargo being transported into trains. Or in Boneworks you can hear thumping beats of bone grinders. Or the boiler works of Soulstorm Brewery, where the hitting of pipes match up with the rhythm.

      @officialgrimwaregamesllc  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    • @officialgrimwaregamesllc
      @officialgrimwaregamesllc  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Sure thing, will get to it. Lighting and materials aren't anything special. I don't use a lot of real-time lighting - its all baked lighting and materials I think a lot of the look comes from the Emissive channel. Most objects have a .1 or .2 Emissive - so they would still get effected by baked light, but not enough that it stands out. and the things I want to stand out just have a higher emissive or a Fresnel glow around them. I have a Blueprint for closer-foreground elements and background elements that I use to throw in the static mesh and control its emissive so I just get silhouettes for the background. I can go over some of that
