    This was great! So easy to follow, thank you. I do have a question, I'm new at this so I just want to double check... I shouldn't unplug the external hard drive until I'm done working on all my photos on LR so everything saves there, correct? Like even if it takes me days? Or can I unplug it and just plug it back in when I'm ready to save? I'm working on my laptop. Can anyone tell me?

    • @dreamlifephotography

      Hey James, well all the info is technically "off the noggin" but when I am more prepared I do script my content... when I do script the video it is more concise and to the point. About 50% of my YT videos are scripted (teleprompter read) and the other half just set the camera rolling a free style it. I think this particular video was scripted but it was shot a long time ago so not 100% sure

    What about when you are exporting for Social Media use? do you export at those jpeg settings and then just let facebook/instagram etc because they reduce the file size to 2048 on the long edge, do you bother reducing them to that or not?

    • @dreamlifephotography
      @dreamlifephotography หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah this is a great question! I know that they reduce to a certain size (2048px long side) and I have downsized to this in the past but with the pinch and zoom on insta now I find if I load them at 3000px long side or even 3500px they just look to me to be better. This is just from my basic testing and observations, so thats why I go higher with pixel count. When I have done their suggested size it always looks poorer quality... At the end of the day you are loading up on to someones elses platform so you have little control... this is why I help my members and students get a place that they own to properly display their photos... but I would encourage you to try an upload at 3000 px and then try one at 2048 and see if you can notice any difference

    Thanks for another great video. What are the downsides to using a dome port with a longer lens than it's designed for? Say if I could fit a 50mm lens in there, what would I be losing?

    • @dreamlifephotography
      @dreamlifephotography หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Sean, thanks for your great question. So the dome ports are curved and rounded much like the shape of wide angle and fish eye lens, so optically they are more of a match. When you start getting into the 50mm focal range and above the lens is flatter in nature which matches up better optically with a flat port. Its not that you can't shoot with a 50mm through a dome port, its just better optically to use a flat port for a 50mm. Also the dry port method that I reccomend with flat ports seem to work better than the lick and spit method for the domes when using longer lenses (but don't get confused with this - always use saliva for domes and dry port method for flat ports no matter what lens you are using)... so if you only have a dome port at the moment I would give the 50mm a go inside it... I know many that have done this with some success, its just not the ideal.... so you would just get less images tack sharp and compromise a bit of lens quality by doing this... hope that helps?

    • @dreamlifephotography
      @dreamlifephotography 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question, obviously if a surfer asks not to be on there, then it is best to respect that request and not upload those particular photos. Over my 24 years of shooting surfing I haven't had any objections, but Im sure there has been the odd case. Most surfers are stoked to check out a pic of themselves. Legally its only if you are using them in a commercial sense (like an advertising image for a business or a brand) in that case you will need to get a signed model release.. but much the same as newspapers have been doing for years if its not for commercial use then it is legally okay. But as mentioned before if someone objects just take the image down and delete if necessary... hope that helps

    Thank you a ton for the Info! Is there a reason my image is more saturated and has more contrast after export? This is really confusing. I#m editing it to my liking and get a totally different result at the end. Any help is appreciated

      This could be because your computer or screen is setup for a different colour profile... I set mine to SRGB because that is closer to the standard that most of my clients will be viewing and printing in.. some monitors will be set to Adobe RGB or Adobe RGB 98... but the colour profile you are viewing in can make a huge difference in how they look on screen... also what colour profile are you exporting as?

      @@dreamlifephotography oh, ok thanks for the reply.. my monitor is set to srgb and i export in srgb. I use the technicolor cinestyle profile a lot of the time in camera. The problem is it is a custom profile and has to be imported into the camera. Importing it into lightroom didn't work for me using the import option in the profile menu in the develop tab. It is a p2f file and I couldn't find any information online on how to install or convert it. This whole topic seems so unnecessary as a whole. Kn davinci resolve you can set color space tags and every player is just taking the set tag for mapping. Lightroom should be able to apply a color space transform from profoto to segb and render the colors correctly but it doesn't seem to work that way. I am probably missing something. Thanks and take care

      Its hard to say from here what you are missing, but if it looks totally different in LR to photoshop or anywhere else on your computer I would say that you are viewing in a different colour profile outside or inside LR.. I hope you can get an answer to this... if you are on Mac be sure not to have high dynamic range turned on, I thinks this stuffs with the profiles@@The_Daliban

    Could you please tell me what is the housing for the flash and the cord to trigger it you use on the pool shot? Thank you.

    • @dreamlifephotography
      @dreamlifephotography 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sure the flash housing is called the Aquatech Strike Housing fro the Canon 600EX . Aquatech no longer sell it as they have what is called the LUX housing that takes GoDox flashes which are included with the housing.. link to the flash housing is: au.aquatech.net/collections/lighting/products/lux-flash-housing hope that helps?

    Super good point on not using it when it is darker + with older cameras! It's actually my favorite little trick, especially with big waves here in Hawai'i. I use it almost all of the time in water because of the bright light I shoot in say 90% of the time. For sunset stuff, I usually just clean it up in Lightroom after, especially because the AI denoise is so good now. I've used the 1dx mk ii, 1dx mk iii and now r5 the past 5-6 years or so and I think it's favor those nicer bodies with greater dynamic range vs. the 5d mk ii in the example which is noteworthy. I tend to prefer to over expose as well in camera to make images pop more, but Highlight tone priority saves the highlights when I do that. Last thing to note as well, I usually do NOT use it when shooting video because I'm exposing properly or slightly under exposing with video since the dynamic range isn't quite as good with video. At the end of the day, I think it depends on the camera and how people like to shoot and what works for me, may not work for someone elses style. Like you told others though, just try it for themselves 100%. Just takes a lot of time and testing which you and I have both put tons of time in to doing to figure out our shooting styles. Psyched you brought up the downside of it though. I mentioned it in a video and didn't really dive too deep in to how it could be a negative. Love your videos as always!

      Hey Bro, thanks so much for your comment, through that I have discovered your YT...stoked to follow your channel now, looks like you have some super cool stuff!! Yeah with the HTP its definitely an issue for the older cameras. It is only a slight tweak, but with the dark conditions and the older DSLR's it was causing issues for some of my students, so I thought I would make a cautionary video for those crew... looks like it works really well for you and Im stoked you took the time to write your input and experience with it in this thread...cheers ledge great to connect!

    will you need to import your presets in each new Cat or will they be in lightroom still with the new Cat?

    • @dreamlifephotography
      @dreamlifephotography 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your presets will remain, they are tied to the lightroom software and NOT the catalogue ... great question thou, and something I should have mentioned in the video, so thanks for bringing it up in the comments
