  • If you are shooting surf action in the water, these swim fins or flippers are one of the most important tools to have, but which one suits you the best...I found out through a simple question on instagram recently that there are now so many options when it comes to swim fins. This video points out the reason for these and asked you the viewer to contribute your thoughts and experience on the matter, so please comment below..... I will be doing follow up videos on comparing different brands in the future, would love to get some suggestions on this as well.
    Cheers legends and keep the stoke alive!!

    I find Pod 2s to be the most comfortable of all of the fins Ive tried ove the years. They're shorter than da fins but much more resposive and manouverable when changing direction. Personally I found Dafins were too stiff and required a much slower kicking style due to their length which I wasn't used to. I used Churchill style fins for years until eventually they caused bunions on the sides of my feet.

      Oh thanks so much for this input Laurie, really helpful for me and Im sure many others that may read this post in the future. That easier or more forgiving direction change is something I think I am searching for, so this makes sense.. similar sort of ideas that are coming from the DMC users... I will be looking up the Pod 2's thanks heaps

    I was using viper fins which are a great fin. Then I bought dafins to try something different and I agree they’re also a good choice for shooting with.

      Yeah Simon the DaFins are so quick off the mark hey? Lately I have been using the DMC fins and they are soooo much better for my knees and cramps, a lot easier on the legs for me anyway… thanks for your input I haven’t tried the vipers yet, but they looked pretty good

    Im late to the party! I wear fins almost every single day, Da fins are great, I just wish the ridge on the side went all the way to the end of the fin. In my opinion the only thing that matters after trying so many brands is balancing comfort to hardness! I want them as hard/stiff as possible for power but then Im not gonna wear them if they're not comfortable. Pods are great, the pod pf2 is my go to, I just wish they were half an inch longer for a little bit more power.

      Yeah, function wise the Dafins were amazing, very effective, just hard on the body in the end... but your research and ideas have me thinking you should design a pair!!! everything can always be improved upon hey? ... thanks heaps for your input on this

    Great topic Tom. Like you I use dafins but I’ve had a friction burn on my right foot? Now I am thinking I need booties for some protection. I am also considering entering the surf from a rocky headland are there any suggestions of how I do this safely? With booties carrying fins and then fin up in the water? How do others navigate this?

      @dreamlifephotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah maybe fins socks will help with the rubbing... I've been pretty good with rubbing with my DaFins.. have you always had the friction burn or is that new??.. might be that they are getting old?.. and with the rock jumps that is definitely a hard one hey? it depends on the "rock off" but I usually jump in bare feet and put the fins on once Im in the water... the experienced body boarders are absolute beasts at walking over rocks with fins.. maybe some of them could give us their tips.. haaha. Thanks for your message and input Michael

    Yep, DaFins for me. Not had a problem with them, no issues with my knees and I wouldn't say I have the strongest legs (I'm 55 so I'm getting on a bit too). I get a nice ache in the foot after a session, just like a muscle recovery feeling. Definitely get fin savers, even on a small day they can get caught in the white water and slip off the back of the foot - not very often though. I haven't tried any others.

      Cheers Tony, appreciate your insights... yeah they have been pretty good for me really, only slipped off my feet two or three times over many years... probably just need a fresh pair, Ive had these DaFins for a while now... although I think Im going to test out a few different brands just so I know Ive got the best ones for me

    Always used DaFins but I also get a few craps and knee pain. How about fun socks? I normally get bad rubbing on a trip. Any you can suggest?

    • @dreamlifephotography
      @dreamlifephotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Peter, yeah the DaFins are really stiff so they are harder on the knees than some of the other fins. I have just started using DMC fins and they have a lot more flex and way better on the knees but noticeably less cramping. The rubber is also softer so you will get less rubbing... I have not used fin socks before however... thanks for your message

    Tried all sorts of fins over the years, Churchill and similar are OK but really heavy and seem to chafe a lot on the ankles if you don't have wetsuit socks on. Da Fins I've found are great for beach breaks, light & fairly flexible with good blade size for getting into position quickly if you have to cover some distance. Been shooting on reefs a lot recently and the longer or heavier fins are really awkward for getting in & out over uneven rock surfaces while carrying your housing (with your precious images). Lots of stumbling, especially in cold winter water with a thick wetsuit both going in and out. So I've now gone for shorter, more flexible fins on reefs if the entry or exit is over rocks. Currently I'm using some DMC fins, which are flexible enough to fold under your foot if you land on a rock ledge with the fin tip when getting out. With firmer blades this event would defo trip you up and chance knocking your gear against the rocks. You generally don't need to paddle that much distance to line up on a reef, so the fin length is less important. Short burst speeds for wide sets are fine, you can kick your legs quicker at a higher rate with a more flexible fin. No problem getting depth when ducking the clean up sets and the more flexible loop hook for the foot seems to create less ankle chafe too. (I'm not sponsored by them FYI ). Keep up the good work! Cheers, Mike. PS You can find my water shots on Insta @manonaplanet

      Oh Mike, thanks so much for this information... very valuable insights for anyone that comes across this video and a great brand suggestion for me to try, so I really appreciate you taking the time. A fair few mentioned DMC's via the original instagram post I did, so I will be getting myself a pair soon... also a lot of crew mentioned Yukkas... do you know much about them?

    I like the old DA FINS with the dorsal fin on the top. The material was super flexible. The new Da Fins has a harder material and not as flexible. I like the flexible but firm enough to propel. The new DA FINS do not feel as good. Great topic!

      Yeah right very interesting! thanks for your insights on this i really appreciate... I was told via my instagram post that the Yukka fins and DMC's are more flexi and easy on your legs and joints... what fins are you using at the moment?
